Do you watch/pirate anime illegally?

I only first got into anime when people on YouTube streamed sections of the anime illegally, then moved on to GoGoAnime, 4Anime.. etc. I'm only curious cause I've heard some people decide to watch it legally on Crunchyroll with ad intervals and I personally find that a pain in the ass.

I subscribe to Funimation, Crunchyroll, and HIDIVE for anime. If I want to watch something and it's not carried on one of the three, well, you know. I'm not gonna subscribe to umpteen different subscription services just to watch anime, that's all I'm saying.

I only watch downloaded anime, I stopped paying for streaming since they ran out of anime that I was interested in.

I saw that Crunchyroll is adding more anime, perhaps I'll give it another chance later, but I really wanted more variety and some older anime.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

Do you ever run out of storage from downloading anime?

Crunchyroll/other paid services don't really have that much variety IMO so my answer is a yes

I do not want to support Cruncy or Funimation i'm not into what they are doing + their offer of shows should not be acceptable.

I either download or watch them on some wierd site, but i support the industry with buying Manga, games, sometimes bluerays or DvD ( very rare ) and figurens.
That's how i support what I love.

Not yet, but I think downloading anime is the best PTW list you can have because they're occupying your storage, forcing you to watch them as soon as possible.

A mix of both. If a series is available for free on a legal streaming site, i'll watch it legally. But if i have to pay, hell no. I'm too cheap to pay for premium.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Majority of anime with Polish subs are illegal, the only official stuff right now are on Netflix or maybe in Disney+ [ain't having disney so no idea what's available there]. So yeah I do watch 99% of my stuff illegally cause if I have to pay for it I don't want to watch it in English, that's not the product I desire.

I mainly watch anime legally, my personal experience with pirate sites has been very poor.

I think the best way to pirate is with torrenting, but I really don't wanna have to be downloading a new episode every single day.
Legal streaming is just way more convenient for me, I can watch in any device with relative ease, plus I like to support the industry.

A little bit of both legal and illegal pirated sites.

Sometimes I use Crunchyroll but the ads do be killing me. So I switch over to another website.

I buy some blue-rays here and there to watch on my playstation.

"I'm not into what they are doing" well kinda ironic coming from someone who has an anime co-produced by Funimation on their favs lol.

Yes. Because we are still VERY far off from being given a quality product, or a product that is "complete" (uncensored, not-woke-washed in terms of localization, and has good translations/typesetting). Additionally, prices for anime in the USA are egregiously inflated far above their worth. Furthermore, many anime are simply not available through legal means in most places.

While many may say that fansubbing is dead, it really isn't. There are just far fewer doing it, because there are far less shows in need of it. But look at fansubbers like GJM. Fansubbers who dedicate themselves to providing accurate translations that reflect the proper dialogue in the source material, and add translations to signs and songs, things which are always excluded from official releases, and thus leave a portion of the product missing.

You forgot to mention where you watch it, your employer will not be happy about that. I don't know how any person can seriously think that any legal streaming service is better than an illegal one. Either you just never used a good illegal streaming site (dm me if you want some recommendations) or you are actually brainwashed by advertisement. Also no, using a legal streaming service doesn't support the anime industry, at least not in a way that would be worth mentioning.

Rather sure it's in, and not like i watched the show on their service, or wait, i can't.

So dunno how that would work, how did i support them ?
Please do tell then again, just because Funimation has linced the show dosen't mean they have done anything with it, more then owening streaming rights to the show.

Well if you ever bought any official merch or blu-ray for Furuba, like you claim you like to do, then part of your money would be going to them since they were on the production committee for that show.

Yeah, i did claim that i do buy merch, but i'm really sure I never claimed what Shows/Game and Figurens that would be.
So sometime it's good to know who you talk to and what he has spent money on, as you don't, youre currently just looking like a clown.

Youre really jump the gun here. Tips, next time at least try to think or ask.

And I really would love to see official information about Amiami giving money to Funimation if i bough Fruits Basket Merch from them as that's what youre clamining right now.

I subscribe to three different anime services. If I can't find what I want to watch on those services, I... figure out a way. It seems ridiculous to me to subscribe to more than three anime services for the sake of watching a literal handful of shows.

If Funimation (now Crunchyroll) licenses it, I pirate. Everything else, if there's a licensed Western release I try to get it; I like having physical media. If it's not licensed, it's probably like 30 years old anyway so nobody is missing out (+I buy secondhand stuff a lot anyway, so that's like $15 a pop to my local used games/dvds store- is buying a DVD printed in 2005 by a now-defunct company considered piracy? In that case I'm God's worst criminal for my Geneon collection).

In terms of my actual philosophy on piracy, I believe that it is basically always a moral good to preserve media and make it accessible to the masses. A company is going to squeeze the most money out of a work within the first 10 years of its release, bar the occasional cultural wave of nostalgia (everyone is big into 80s and early 00s titles right now, it seems- lots of remastered re-releases and revivals/sequels).
I actually quite like the free-with-ads streaming format, but Funi/Crunchy's streaming services are borderline unusable and have "premium" tiers that just bilk users for money. Not to mention there have been multiple incidents proving that they treat their translators like hot garbage and thus have poorly translated subs in general. There's a night-and-day difference between Funi quickly pumping out shoddy subs for seasonal shows as fast as possible & smaller publishers like Discotek that are super transparent about every step of their localization/translation processes. Even HiDive's translators are more transparent and dedicated to quality.
Getting into the physical media side, Funi also has a long history of poor quality releases dating back to the rise of DVDs. Even now there are issues with their BDs not only in quality but in their exorbitant pricing. Quite frankly, I trust fan releases to be of more consistent quality at this point.

Anyway, long story short, Yes. I pirate stuff. But if I see a publisher putting a lot of care into making a quality legal release and I have the money, I buy it.

Yes.

A significant number of the shows I watch never got any form of distribution (streaming or otherwise) and many are niche/obscure shows that probably never will (I've all but given up hope that any licensor is gonna pick up 2005's Ginban Kaleidoscope or 2007's Hitohira more than 15 years later.) Such is the price I pay for my taste in anime, but at least there's somewhere where I can watch such shows.

That's not even getting into the quality of their subs.

I maintain Crunchyroll, Netflix and Funimation accounts to assuage my conscience (and for newest releases that haven't dropped yet via fansub), but my primary viewing is fansubs.

Mainly because I hate streaming interfaces. I have a fancy home theater setup and I far prefer to watch my videos using my own player. Plus I already have the remote control mappings made for my player; I'd have to try to find keyboard shortcuts for the streamers and make new mappings. Ugh, no heh.

Read what I wrote again, I wasn’t the one who was claiming you were giving money to Funimation, I didn’t say that.

All I said is that I found ironic how you “don’t like what they’re doing” but at the same time enjoys a show they helped produce.

I think you aren’t very knowledgeable on how production committees work, in case you don’t know, the investors or producers are the ones who own the IP for a show, and they also get any profit the show makes.
This means that Funimation would be also getting profits from any official merch that’s licensed by the committee, as that’s how they work.

Of course, pirating is a far better experience. Even better if it's an old anime with blu-rays released. I used to stream on the high seas but I quite disliked the subs for Bakemonogatari so I switched to torrents and the quality is pretty good, or rather as much as possible.
