Live Action anime adaptations you think would work.

I know a lot of people look at live adaptations of anime to suck automatically, but I think there are some that would genuinely work well if they tried.

Maybe Monster or Death Parade for examples, the visual effects aren't that cartoony or anything, so maybe they could genuinely work

or you could make fun of the idea and say something sarcastic, that works to I guess.

Pretty much any anime that doesn't have over-the-top story or anything that doesn't involve fantasy elements like magic and whanot. The problem with most live-action adaptations is when they adapt an anime with aspects that clearly doesn't translate well in live-action and just comes off as cringe-worthy. Like who thought a live-action version of Dragon Ball would be a good idea? It's fine in anime because in animation, anything goes but in live-action; it just doesn't work.

If there's one anime that would definitely work as a live action adaptation then it has to be Psycho-Pass, because the setting isn't too far-fetched and can work in live action without any problems. Even Attack on Titan can work but they have to give it to the Americans because they have a much bigger budget, the characters aren't Japanese (aside from Mikasa) so it would be perfect to have a Western cast and Japan showed us that they can't do live-action movies.

Naoki Urasawa's works have a pretty western and realistic feel already so they would work easily as live actions, though they are more suited to being a series. HBO is losing big money by not adapting 20th Century Boys imo.

Literally any samurai manga/anime.

I think the biggest problem with live-action movies is that they are not a work of love: they are meant to make a quick buck out of moviegoers. Alita, Old Boy and Edge of Tomorrow are all there to prove that it's very possible to make a REALLY good live-action adaptation as long as you take your job seriously and not throw it in the lap of an incompetent director like they did with Ghost in the Shell. They didn't have the perfect cast nor story but they had the perfect look for it, and even that was completely wasted.

Can't think of anything really, but I obviously agree with Monster lol.

They just have to make sure they don't diverge from the main plot and add their own political incentives.

Prob any SoL or Romance. The problem with adapting anime/manga stories is breaking the barrier of suspension of disbelief. U can overlook certain things in anime and manga cause they are animation or drawings but bringing it to real life breaks the illusion of fiction.

when theres a live action, it either tries to much to be like the anime (exaggerated movements and speech which ends up being kind of hard to watch..)
or too far way from the anime. and so a good in-between would be monster, it's realistic- a lot of western films like doing the police, mystery genre, so it would be nice to see it.
i heard there is going to be a Steins;Gate live action, and I think it might flop because its hard to see live action mimic a character, especially those like Mayuushi and Okabe...

Whisper of the heart can make a fine adaptation and after I wrote that I checked on wikipedia and it seems that a live action version was greelit in january 2020. Damn I'm good.
I'm surprised hollywood hasn't attempted a black lagoon adaptation.
It seems like it was made for hollywood. It's got great action, follows the academy's stupid rules (badass female, diverse cast), lots of american characters and the main gun is a beretta 92, the most popular movie gun.

any adaptation will be a compromise, thus there will be omissions, additions and/or changes in tone that will make it work or tank; but it's alright, I have very low standards and expectations

as long as the west is focusing on rewriting and westernizing the stories, removing gore and adding diversity and political agenda, NONE.
there are 2 things an adaptation should aim for:
1. be true to the source material
2. surpass it somehow to validate it's existence.
a perfect example to this is kimetsu.
it matches the manga, but thanks to ufotable it looks miles better with some insane action.
by surpassing I don't mean rewriting or changing it to fit the director's idea.

Anything without over-the-top speeches really. Which immediately excludes all battle shounen and all mahou shoujo

I haven't seen them but aren't the live action Samurai-X/Rurouni Kenshin movies supposed to be really good if not better than the anime?

Also the live action Gintama movie is hilarious.

I've always dreamed of Sakasama no Patema made by Christopher Nolan for 200-300 mln $. That would work since Nolan always delivers

Monster is an obvious first choice.

Nana of course but it’s already had a few movies.

Boku No Dake Ga Inai Machi.

Zankyou no Terror.

Baccano!!

Darker than Black.

Parasyte.

Ergo Proxy.

Red Garden.

Ghost Hunt.

Zombie-Loan.

Also Elfen Lied but Stranger Things has kind of copied that whole premise already.

I think anything can be adapted, as long as is not done by Japan or Hollywood. Japan sucks at adapting anime, because they try to emulate the anime (often with low budgets), and it sucks, looks like a cosplay amateur movie... I saw some images with Promised Neverland, and my god, when I saw those damn colored wigs again -_- Why the fuck do you need the wigs? Just focus on the damn story, and just adapt the looks to your actors, instead of trying to make Asians look Caucasian and shit. As for Hollywood, is pretty much impossible to make a good movie there, because despise the budgets and talented directors, everyone is obsessed with race and racial representation over anything else, and it must be a political statement of course, which makes the industry a joke. The only ones I think can really make good anime adaptations are the South Koreans thou... They mastered the shit out of the cinematography... I watched Flower Over Boys some 8-9 years ago, and I was impressed at the time with the quality, and how well they kept the spirit of the manga, while making it into a movie. City Hunter was also amazing. And those stories adapted the original (manga or anime) in something Korean, instead of making a live action copy of the anime. And that why they work. Now, on the other hand, they also have the budget to make great movies. I was mind blown by Kingdom (which adapts a Korean Manwha), it was better than Game of Thrones. Hotel del Luna and 'Is ok to not be ok' also managed to adapt quirky characters we would usually see in anime, into something that feel natural and not cringe worthy. So I really feel that the South Koreans could successfully adapt anything. For example Akatsuki no Yona would work excellent, as is based in Korea anyway...
I guess the easiest to adapt thou, would be romance and shoujo anime.

lmao the wigs. Especially with Gintama movies, I cringed when I watched those on the airplane 😂

I loved City Hunter too, I watched that and BOF when I was still new to k-dramas.
I've always wanted to watch a k-drama of Death Note, I'd imagine OCN making it since they're good with crime dramas and Korean music composers make great background music. MBC would be my second choice since they aired Children of Nobody (the antagonist Red Cry is a bit similar to Kira)

That's great! ^.^ So much wonderful scenery to capture. Hope the soundtrack is just as good as the anime's too.

Whether a Live Action would work or not is irrelevant to me as I would by no means watch one in the first place.

I didn't even watch Alita for God's sake.

Even though it most likely won't work, I've got a little bit of hope for the One Punch Man live action. I think depending on how they approach it, it may work but I won't be shocked it it fall flat on its face cuz it most likely will.

Also Monster would make a pretty cool live action and would love to see how it would be adapted.

I wish that a lot of live action adaptations, especially the Japanese ones, would stop doing (or do significantly less) 1-to-1 adaptations of the character designs. It's really weird seeing specific characters in live action.

I only can think of really serious anime that would work great as live action. Like 91 days or Joker Game
