Idk, I still think it's something you have to want to see 80% of the time, watching stuff unbiased I barely ever reach the same conclusions or even realize the 'bait' before people complain about it. The whole phenomenon of yaoi/yuri 'bait' is very suspect to me since people are just way way quicker to take little things as surefire indicators for the sexual orientation of the characters. Like I said, 80% of the time I can see nothing but projection and headcanon in those 'baits'. Show a random 'bait' show to a normal person who isn't familiar with the anime community and its buzzwords and I bet you that 80%+ of the time they won't know what you're talking about. The whole issue seems like a very specific way to look and interpret things that anime and the surrounding media teach you, but from a 'normal' perspective it's overblown almost all of the time. I mean I like to joke about yaoi or yuri bait interpretation too, especially in simulwatches, but I'd never take it that seriously as to get sincerely salty when it doesn't happen or use it as a factual description of the show. Ships are just what you wish for in your head so blaming the show for them not happening is something that wouldn't even occur to me 95% of the time. But even assuming that the headcanon of the yuri/yaoi shippers is more than just their wishful interpretation of events turning friendships and whatnot into something sexual all the time, caring so much and getting so salty about a lightly-hinted-at ship not coming to fruition is also weird to me. I've had my headcanon ships that didn't end up happening too, but I'm not entitled enough to get super salty about the show not going according to my headcanon and blaming the show for the bait when it was at least 80% my own interpretation or wishful thinking in the first place. |
