A new TV anime based on the children's fantasy book Ronia the Robber's Daughter is in works, titled Sanzoku no Musume Ronja. The anime, a 3D CG work, will be directed by Goro Miyazaki and is to air this Fall. The anime will be produced by NHK Enterprise and will be composed by Hiroyuki Kawasaki. The animation will be done by POLYGON PICTURES with Studio Ghibli as the co-producers.

The story, originally written by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (best know for her books featuring the character Pippi Longstocking), is about a girl named Ronja who is the daughter of a chief of a tribe of bandits and lives in a huge castle in the forest with the bandits. The story follows Ronja as she encounters mystical creatures, makes friends with another young child like herself, and experiences life in the forest.

Goro Miyazaki directing what appears to be a spiritual successor to World Masterpiece Theater. This is too good to be true. Don't know how I fee about it being full CG, though. Regardless, something to keep tabs on.

Vengeance of everyone's grudge.

The full 3D CG treatment only works when the production has an enormous Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks-level budget. This is gonna be a TV anime, so I'm a little wary...

Says the person who's only seen exactly one Ghibli movie.

Anyway.

I remember reading at least part of this book when I was younger. So I'm going to check this out, just out of curiosity.

Time will tell whether or not this will be a good decision...

Sounds great, Astrid Lindgren has created many lovely series/books for children. And Studio Ghibli makes this even more amazing :D

If this wasn't CGI I would be more than overjoyed now since Lindgren is one of my favourite Swedish authors. Then again, it is still Ghibli (even though Goro is the director).

Well, 3D CG is a turn off. But I love both Astrid Lindgren and Studio Ghibli, so I'll give it a try. At least the picture they posted looks good, I think there's still hope xD

oh he's pissed off because PMMM Movie 3 didn't make it to Oscars and The Wind Rises did

who in the right mind would even nominate PMMM 3 for an oscar

and yes he will, in fact his view of the anime industry is the same with his father, he even said the anime industry itself is dying

in depth read bout what Hayao Miyazaki have said
Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki says the anime industry’s problem is that it’s full of anime fans

and yes i'm a hardcore Ghibli, especially Miyazaki fan, father and son ^^,
