What is this shit? Seems like the series will be slow paced.
Just hoping that the bullying won't be so bad like in the one-shot.

I'm a bit worried since the "defeating boredom" things looks like
Kinda preferred the way it opened in the one-shot. But it's still a good chapter. This has a lot of potential to it. I hope it won't shoot itself in the foot.

I agree with Ducat, a lot of potential.
My main concern is about the length of this series as we already know how it'll end from the oneshot - at least for the first major arc if the mangaka decides to continue after that. If the series actually provides enough reasons to logically continue and show their developing relationship (which is very likely at this point) I'll gladly continue following it.

This is (probably) gonna be the same with the one-shot, only longer.
I really do hope the author continues the story, cause I bet it'll get the attention it deserves

or continue from where the One Shot left? If it's the former, it won't be surprising if my monitor break soon.

Why are you all so negative about it? Sure, we'll get more chapters on
but if its essential to the plot then why not? We get more insight (and sure a lot more drama), we get to see more of how characters grow and how they might find each other again. Its a tragic story and if you're not able to cope with that don't read it.

As for me, I'm extremely looking forward to this.

@sanctuaries

Actually, that's not a good thing. With a deeper back story and a lengthier run time, the
section runs a great risk of being melodramatic. Instead of holding the impact it should, it'll be overblown and the "cathartic" experience will just be emotional manipulation. The resolution can seem overwrought, and since this a sensitive topic, it might even come across as annoyingly didactic.

The story shouldn't just be
it should have something more that will push it to greatness. And I think that's why everyone wants to see the continuation of the story rather than the rehashing of an already fairly executed section.

After reading this first chapter, I really honest that they don't spend too much time on this back story, I couldn't take
and any more of it will just be too much. I hope that they just show important points from the backstory, while continuing the story from the time skip.

But this was an alright chapter, nonetheless.

Understanding the character’s justification for
is very different from believing that the character's justification is indeed just. I don't think we will have to worry about the author implying anything like that.

i'm sorry but i think they took a huge step back in this first chapter. literally! i wish they would just continue where the oneshot left off instead giving us backstory about a character i particularly dont care for.
hope the next chapter are better. i really love the oneshot and i hate to see it go downhill this fast.

Well, it's a good start. We got to learn a bit more about Ishida life and biggest fear : boredom.

I wonder if it will really follow the one-shot and turn bad real fast.

"Urushibara Ruka. The mannerisms and voice of a woman... No... More feminine than any woman. But he's a guy. Taller than Mayuri, but so very thin... But he's a guy. Looks great in a miko outfit... But he's a guy. It's already twilight And yet, it's so hot. The cicadas are crying. But... He's a guy."

Isayama Hajime should be awarded The Manga with The Highest Inconsistencies of Characters' Appearances.
He keeps performing multiple plastic surgeries on those Shingeki No Kyojin characters in a SINGLE chapter.
Yes, I've read up to the latest chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga.
Forced myself to read through the kidsketching chapters after the anime's ended. At least from now on, I only have to go through the hell once a month.
Patiently awaiting SNK TV/movie/OVA anime-sequel.
The 2015 SNK live-action movie would probably suck.

Either they sleep on futons or they are too poor to buy futons. Either way, Ishida's family is poor.

I would have to agree, this is much better in terms of bringing more context to Ishida's actions. Not that it is right, but you see how it really started.
And that bullying will kill me, it was so hard to see she getting bullied by him, I hope the manga doesnt spend too much time on it...

Having a disability myself and having being bullied because of it, I know this manga is going to be a huge feels trip for me. Hopefully this introduction arc won't last too long, so don't have to see Nishimiya getting bullied even more than in the one shot.

It will be interesting to see how this manga handles disabilities as it's not very common theme in anime or manga.

I also can't help but wonder if I'll be able to like the MC. I know he'll eventually turn around and realise what a complete sack of shit he his, but I just won't be able to forgive him for what he did to Nishimiya that easily.

why just why Shoya's sister always on the floor sleeping, when I first was her like that I was scared because I thought she was dead... not the plot you really wanna go with romance manga here.

I will give it a try, not sure when I'm going to finish it (fall semester starts in August) but hoping to finish it by December.

the reactions of the teachers in these kind of manga are always frustrating to me. they just allow shit to happen and never exert their authority for good. this guy knew everyone was bullying nishimiya, but he was all too happy to let ishida take all the blame and get bullied in turn. fuck him

Chapter One of Koe no Katachi introduces the poignant tale of redemption and isolation. Shoya's contemplation and Shoko's arrival set the stage for a gripping exploration of human connection.
