[Holy Moly. I wanna cry. I GOT FOOLED. When Oreki said that "by the way about the business side you gave up on, How about I take care of that for you?", I paused the player. I screamed. I was thikning "Shit finally, Eru x Oreki romance conclusion. Yes. I was so happy that I could die. Then Oreki was just imagining it
.... I might've broke the computer.]

Lol.. Overall I think it's was Masterpiece.. sadly I thought I could see what happen during Mayaka Ibara and Satoshi Fukube arguing valentine's day chocolate thing and why Satoshi Fukube gave her a hard chocolate to POOR Mayaka Ibara, It must have hurt her feeling But they didn't make that on episode 22 I got excited for noting... I do still think this episode was good though.

Great series, at least its nice to know that Oreki has feelings for Chitanda even if he didn't really say it.

I like how they depicted the rosie-colored aspect of the show with the cherry blossoms and the sunset at the end; is that the rosie-colored life Houtarou wished for? Good show 8/10. I hope Houtarou mans up and actually says what he thought about saying. Also I Hope they adapt the remaining volume. Is it true that the author is writing more?

A spinoff where Oreki is in a police/detective anime. Now that would be good.

I rather enjoyed this series' unique approach to the mystery genre, but, all the same... give me a spinoff where Houtarou uses his power of reasoning to solve murders, and I might add it to favorites without seeing episode 1. ¬_¬

Great anime! Wish they developed Chitanda and Oreki's relationship though. Love how every mystery stimulates the viewers' mind to follow the clues and solve it (well, for me at least).

Heh, the episode was pretty average about the whole episode UNTIL the end happened, it was really full of 'aww' :D went out with a happy feeling, yeah.

Still leaves me wondering (and perhaps a bit hoping) for a second season someday.

Yep, I knew Kyoani wouldn't pursue the romance factor further than it already had. I think it was pretty obvious since the start of the show. I don't think there's a reason to be sad though. The little romance hinted that they will be together and make lots of children. xD

Beyond the romance factor, the show was pretty average. The mysteries, with the exception of those from the first half of the show were quite good. They had awkward conclusions, but they were entertaining and thought-inducing - I actually paused a couple of times to try and think about them.

The animation, really, very good. As I probably said in a previous discussion, Kyoani did a very good job on this anime. The music, very good, again. There could've been more music during man parts of the show, but it's okay.

All in all, I'm deciding between a 7 and an 8 for this one. I'll probably stick to the eight though.
And to all who expect a second season, it won't happen. There is a bit of an open ending, but I consider the anime pretty closed up.

A calm way to end the series for now. I say for now because I'm sure Kyoto could make more anime of Hyouka no problem. Looking forward to their next project, Chuunibyou.

Im lost for words...8/10
Not enough to be a masterpiece due to some awkwardly laid situations in the show, but hey, Kyoani's Hyouka contibuted 2 wow points in here:

- DAT production value! I mean, for 22 episodes(not crediting the OVA) kyoani, as usual, never failed to impress by delivering art quality and consistency that can be budgeted on par with the movies! They really mean serious business...and NOW IN HD!
- Hyouka introduced us to this 2d guy named Houtarou Oreki...and well I won't spoil it any further, coz the rest is history...Genius :D

Episode okay, I was expecting something more from the last episode. 3/5.

KyoAni is always stunning with animation, props to them. Story wasn't interesting to me and I feel we are just in the middle of the story, the last part with stand-alone episodes was anticlimatic.
Oreki is great, Chitanda annoys me.

To conclude, I give 7/10 to Hyouka, and I can't give more (I really want to appreciate Hyouka but I can't).
For who doesn't know what to see now, watch Kokoro Connect for good characters and great development at every story-arc.

Season two is not impossible. There is still enough material for a second season. (I guess?) What we can confirm is that there will be no season two until next year. Let's just hope for it.... though.. i doubt it. But still, I won't lose hope!

Overall, What a great anime.. I wish, there was more romance development between Oreki and Chitanda.

Also I doubt there will be a Season 2 since they mostly covered all the volumes except for Volume 5, i presume? and since there is only 5 volumes in total.

As far as endings go, it was somewhat unsatisfying but as others have said it it's not surprising given the fact that it didn't cover all the volumes. Still, what Oreki said during his fantasy is pretty much marriage proposal, so all is well. On an unrelated note I was really happy to see Irisu-senpai once again, not to mention how nice and honest she was this time around. All hail the Empress! The writing, directing and visual elements were absolutely amazing in the final scene, kudos to KyoAni 4/5.

I'm glad I bumped into this little gem. I loved the mysteries in the first half of the show, and the character interaction made up for the somewhat dull latter half. 7/10, I would like to see the movie now.

What a frustrating ending! But also amazing. I wish they chose to go with what Oreki said.

I hope the blu-ray sales of Hyouka go really well, I really want to see Eru as a nendoriod, ki ni narimasu face with those huge sparkly purple eyes would be adorable on a non scale figure I think...

Glad this series is over. It had all the ingredients to be great but turned out so middle of the road average and forgettable. The animation was top notch, the art was excellent and there were some great ideas here. I could see how the novels could make for a brilliant read but damn did this show have down right narcoleptic pacing that it might as well be the cure for insomnia.

The last few episodes were used to explore the characters which would be fine if the exploration and development of the characters wasn't so damn dry and just boring. There was nothing here other than scenery porn to give anything any flavor which can describe the show as a whole. It's large blocks of mildly interesting exposition that gets boring long before the 25 minute run time of each episode is up.

This show isn't terrible, it isn't good, it's just sitting there mediocre. 5/10

And god, I hope I never hear anything from this series again because in my mind being mediocre is the worst thing a show can be. I'd rather watch something terrible but memorable before I watch something as dry as this series. Hyouka is the exact kind of series that I will promptly forget about unless someone else brings it up.

Thank god it's over.

Dammit, I thought and hoped he really said that in the end. I should've known there wouldn't be a romance conclusion. Pretty nice of Mayaka to thank Houtarou for what he did on Valentine's day. Only the fact that he actually yelled and got emotional proves that he really cared about the relationship between her and Satoshi and Mayaka knew this.

Overall a very interesting series with great (and less great) mysteries and superb animation! 8/10.

You are one of those that must watch somebody trying to take over the world, big explosive actions or a mindf*ck in order to not be just a "forgettable" anime. I will respect your opinion though. Arguing about personal tastes will take us nowhere.

To me, it was a great anime. 9/10. The ending was such a letdown. Too sweet and bitter as someone commented up there. I hope there will be a nice OVA or movie to fix it.

FUCK! 10/10 KyoAni....your anime was really titled properly because at the end I SCREAM!

While it was not completely eventful as an episode the last scene was one of the best confessions I've seen...only for it to be brutally taken away from me.

KyoAni you gave me hope, then took it away when it was at its strongest. When you troll, it hurts so much.

With that said, really liked this show. Another good entry into KyoAni's list of well produced anime.

Well that's a wrap. It kind of just fizzled out in the past 8ish episodes, but nonetheless, Hyouka was amazing. Still a shame that Oreki's 'rivalry' relationship with Satoshi wasn't further develop, but we at least got the development between Oreki and Chitanda.

The ending didn't go off with a bang, but it was good enough to let you release a nice pleasant sigh, saying "ah, that was pretty good". And with that, an 8/10 seems appropriate.

The last scene between Eru and Oreki is sweet.
But I want to see Satoshi and Mayaka too. What happened after Satoshi called Mayaka? Well we probably know but I want to see it.

My overall score is 8/10.
Reasons I gave 8 is the great animation, great presentation, music, and most of all Hotarou.

I can see everyone change during this series except Chitanda.
I think she wasn't suited to be the main character.
She needs more development.

Oh, and if there are more of this series, I wish it's Irisu's time to shine~

I believe that there are still some stories left. The anime kinda ends abruptly and I won't even call that a closure. Let's just hope that there will be a continuation to the story and a more constructive closure in the near future.

[Edit]

Oh okay seems like the last volume of the novel was not yet animated. So, guess there might be a season 2 hopefully soon.

If any of you who are interested here's a link regrading the LN volumes:

Yeah, I also wonder if there will be a season 2 but I don't think it's possible.
The ending was too solid. Although we don't know what happened to Mayaka and Satoshi.
If there is an OVA or movie they might explain it or maybe that's the final mystery they left us to solve.

Well I really liked this series, but I give it a 9 out of 10. The reason it doesn't get a 10 is only because I hate "open endings", there is too much left to answer. I only give my verdict when I know that an anime has completely ended and this one I really think it won't have a sequel. I read in another tread that there is only one long story and two short stories to adapt from the fifth book(I think) and I'm not seeing a second season only for it. Nevertheless Hyouka is pretty much one of the best shows of this year.
I hope someone prove me wrong in regards of not making a sequel, if that happens I can give it a 10 and have peace on my mind.

omg Oreki in awkstruck for 1/3 of the episode was very pleasing, but what was even more cute was the fact that they focused more on Oreki + Chitanda's emotions, but still included a tiny mystery for the perfect wrap-up.
