I'm pretty sure it's impossible to run that far that fast while wearing samurai armor. Still a fun show, even if it was surprisingly over the top in parts.

I read the manga and saw the raw at the same time, it seems to be a faithful adaption except for some scenes which were rewritten. As far as material the first ep covers, the anime is a bit slow paced, some scenes are drawn out longer like that scne where he ran far off to catch the thing.

Also at the end its not sausuke who talks to the lord at the end, but some other famous tea-maker who criticezes the color of the ship

And the scene where he kills the guy at the end, in the manga they show the head is cut off and some blood showers, but the violences seems toned down here.

I'm probably going to read the manga and watch the eps for while together and drop the anime If its too slow or isnt well adapted, cuz the manga seems pretty cool at this point.

I guess I'll give this a fair shake if there's a sub, it doesn't seem to bad but honestly it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. The whole plot seems downright silly, and not really in a good way either. I'm not much for the quirky senine shows, favorite studio or no favorite studio.

Well, for one I dig the setting in general, but I find it especially interesting as I've been playing the hell out of Total War: Shogun 2 in recent weeks. I had low expectations. Very low expectations that were formed the minute I read "tea ceremony" in one preview. The direction, music, and setting were enough to keep me interested and exceed my meager expectations.

That said, without subs I didn't find it quite interesting enough watch without interruption. Every several minutes I'd pause it and do something for a little bit then come back. Hopefully it gets subbed at some point.

Suddenly, subs out of nowhere. As for the episode itself, it was very slow paced and pretty boring. If this is how Bee Train plans to fill up 39 episodes, I doubt I could handle it.

On the other hand, the story does seem to be fairly interesting. Sasuke is lovable and somewhat fabulous, and makes for a pretty entertaining lead. For now, I'm interested in seeing where the show goes. I just hope that the pace picks up in the next few episodes.

Also, the OP and ED are pretty great. The jazzy, modern songs give off a Samurai Champloo/ House of Five Leaves vibe, which I very much like (even if it gives me the feeling that Bee Train is just copying elements from those shows).

Christ, that was far better than I would have though Bee Train could ever hope to do. I think they handled it very well... It was intense and incredibly relaxing at the same time. I've been itching for a good historical anime for a while, and this shit is it. Here's hoping Huzzah doesn't drop it!

Surprised how many people have complained this is a slow paced show, and really with a plot like this
centers on Furuta Sasuke, a vassal of the great warlord Oda Nobunaga and a man obsessed with tea ceremony and material desires in his pursuit of a fortuitous life
were you really expecting an adrenalin pumping action show?

Holy shit. This episode was so good that I didn't even know that Bee Train made it, and for Christ's sake, people, this isn't supposed to be some stupid moeshit series or an action series. If you haven't noticed yet, it's a comedy. I don't get how anyone could watch this and expect to see a bunch of fights in it.

This anime has made my day. Sasuke Furuta is one of the most interesting lead character I have seen in a long time, there's a very strange charm to that man. I would hardly call this slow-paced, but whatever lol...maybe when compared to the manga or something? It felt like something new happening every minute. Bee Train anime should not be this good.

Several negative comments and reviews on the net had nearly convinced me not to give Hyouge Mono a chance. Now I'm glad I didn't listen to them.

At the end of the ep, Nobunaga's cloak and the hat with a feather reminded me of musketeers xD

The way this anime switches from borderline-bombastic to farcical at the drop of a hat (or a teakettle lid)... I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting from this when I first saw the synopsis, but it wasn't this. I guess I thought that it would little more subdued and serious.

Well, despite not being what I thought it would be, I was pleasantly surprised. Even though I'm not typically a fan of anime comedy, I got a laugh out of this episode, and the relatively esoteric subject matter is a refreshing change of pace.

Koichi Mashimo returns in what he does best, black, parodic, Taylor-like humour, with an almosy LOGHish episode (I mean, there's tea, politics and great generals, doesn't that feel like a Yang episode ?). It was badly executed though and I'm in no mood to watch it so I've dropped it for now.

cant say about the others, but when i said slow-paced, I meant compared to the manga, and that too only one or two scenes. In fact, I think its not the speed of the pace that bothers me, but the overall sloppy flow/execution (same complaint I had with Blade of the immortal, which was done by Bee train and the same director).

Oh shoot, Blade of the Immortal had the same director and was also produced by Bee Train? I was not aware of this, I'm not sure what to think of that because I truly loved a few of Koichi Mashimo's past works, but then again there were some others that I just outright hated.

Worst show ever "2011", its evident that even the subs don't come on time... for weeks.... despite this being a show released every week. Every week.

This show is a niche show am I right as the reviewer who blindly put an overall rating of 8 says so, but I don't see this niche working as the target audience is just not there for the anime which the majority of anime are targeting teenagers or young people nowadays so to say.

Yeah I laugh at this show its funny as I laugh at the ridiculous attempts of their facial expression and overall seriousness but that's it... This show is like reading a history text book and finding there are segments of humour in it.

Its like when in class and you just want to read a history text book because its so boring all around , nothing to do and better to read, however once you find something else interesting like for example a phone game immediately you will discard that "history" text book; and that's how I feel about this anime.
The Phone game for example can be another anime that suits the majority of people.

???? Since when does the abundance or lack of subs dictate whether or not a show is good???

There are plenty of shows that are fantastic and have issues getting subbed while there are many shows that are complete bullshit that have 4 diff sub groups covering it...

Firstly I never say subs dictate whether the show is good or not, I say its "evident" ... Evidence!

Let me put this into perspective, this is a NEW show (Well it used to be new), however this show has a total of 39 episodes and only 5 are subbed! 5! It tells a lot about the popularity of the show and its usually more the popular the show= good and less popular = bad.

This is at the very bottom of less popular, with only 5 episodes sub out of the 39 and considering this show came in 2011, with anime being more popular then before.

Seoko, I think the reason there are only 5 subbed episodes out is that most ENGLISH SPEAKING people can't appreciate it. Gaijins want anime to be as non-cultural as possible, and as a result we get a lot of silly ecchi English titles. It definitely cannot be the worst anime of 2011. The Chinese and Korean subs are up to date every single week, and needless to say it received a lot of attention in Japan itself. I watch this show weekly and I'm now on episode 22. I understand that you may have difficulties with it if you are not a fan of history, but calling it the worst anime of 2011 is a bit harsh. A mere lack of interest and approval from the west doesn't mean an anime is the worst of its year. Also, this anime is not as niche as you think. After all, anime is meant for the Japanese no matter how you rationalize it. It is as niche to you as The Office is to a Japanese.

This anime not getting subbed only proves that majority of the people prefer their anime to be full of moe and nonsensical plots.

A decent first episode. I'm not a fan of comedies in general but the historical aspect was interesting and some scenes were amusing. I feel this is something to watch slowly to appreciate it. Nobunaga Oda looks vaguely like Sean Connery, props for that. I thought it worked surprisingly well, better than most series with masculine posing and comedy bits.

So, finally enough episodes have been subbed that I feel comfortable starting this. The first episode was pretty entertaining, though a bit more on the goofy side of humour than I expected. But it's the kind of over-the-top manliness comedy that reminds me a bit of the more recent Jojo TV Series, so definitely something I can enjoy.
I have no idea where the plot will develop to though, so for now I'm just gonna see where this takes me.
I probably regret this post by now.

Great first episode. Liked how the comedy is delivered through the original main character and his insights. I think it reflects well the mix of refinement and brutality that were common during this period, which adds value as a historical. Opening and ending themes were also very smooth and stylish. Overall a classy show.

LOL had me in fits the entire episode, when the facial expressions come from a purely passionate heart as opposed to a reaction to an absurd situation. Love the quirky samurai version of a fabulous fashionista that judges his coworker's clothing!

Is Sasuke by any chance an ancestor of "Seishuu Handa" from Barakamon.

I think I would appreciate this more if I knew the actual history of the Sengoku period, because it didn't waste much time in introducing the characters. Probably because everyone and their mother in Japan already knows about Oda Nobunaga.

I'm also not sure what the overall tone of the show is supposed to be. The first half was mostly comedic and the second half had a mix of both comedy and some serious drama.

Still, I definitely like what I've seen so far, especially the direction and cinematography. It doesn't have the usual frozen frames you see in adaptations of manga and instead gets creative with its shots.
