Hmm, an upgrade for Mina. I know they tried to protray her as a human-like character but she's technically an android. This episode seems to have mixed feelings for Takuma but it's interesting that they decided to sent someone to provide emotiona support for her. And also, it's very obvious just how much Takuma cares about Mina as a partner and wife. |

Takuma taking pictures of Mina before her upgrade, though the caveat with that is having Super Mina being a clumsier apparition than the specialized model she is, at least they're able to share information with each other to preserve her memories and the like. And that upgrade job will be done by Iida Arisa and her robot inspection assistant Senju as their first rondo dealing with a CL-type series Super Mina robot, and which her former owner is not the currently present Takuma. The prospect of the upgrade, however, almost got out of hand that Takuma demanded that the inspection be stopped immediately. Even Iida admits that Senju is like a newborn child to her, teetering between childlike and adulthood when it comes to her working style. And as expected, it is a different case when the robot is considered family, giving Takuma benefits like free inspections, occasional maintenances and the like when it comes to service and repair, which Iida and Senju almost committed murder by trying to change Mina into someone else. That said, Mina will be gone for 2 weeks, and Takuma will feel lonely without her, though she still doesn't know how to interpret facial expressions just yet until the upgrade is done...something which Senju realizes that Mina's the exact same as her. The bad nightmares will continue for Takuma, until Mina comes home... |

"You cannot be in a relationship with a regular woman, so you have me in place of one!" Ain't that the truth. Senju-chan, AKA Tentacle Mina had a pretty strong showing here. Robot that does maintenance on other robots, has a few based takes and probably some yandere tendencies. This is also our first look at the company who makes who makes the Mina robots. They've got a whole procedure for when a user considers a robot a family member. And of course, lots of people are buying Super Minas as "family members." Interesting technical stuff with the way the brains of the different Mina models work, but the decision not to ship the Super Mina pre-trained is baffling. Next week... We finally get to see that chicken thing from the intro. |

I’m so anxious to know what Mina’s upgrade is. I don’t think it’s the Super Mina stuff, so I wonder what she’s gonna try to change. Was neat seeing the actual company who makes the Mina models and how their maintenance process goes, but it’s hilarious that Lida has less empathy for the families of the robots than Senju who is supposedly a cold maintenance assistant model. Senju freezing up and going into shock when Lida said she’s fond of her was sweet though. Idk what they put in these robots but they’re all loveable and adorable. Robots like her and Mina might not be “made to be loved” but that doesn’t stop anything. Love’s a funny thing. Takuma saying goodbye to Mina albeit temporarily was so cute. Mina almost killed him going in for a kiss though 😂 she’s gotta work on that timing and intensity. Hopefully his nightmares don’t last the whole two weeks without Mina :/ |

While the robot company won't mess with Mina's programming and memory since it's now considered a family member I'm curious as to what upgrades Mina has planned. I'm thinking it is facial reactions (like super Mina) and sensitivity around the face and lips since Takuma wants to be able to kiss her and her feel it. |

It seems that all the robots in the series, Mina, despite having different roles, can have emotions even if they don't show them. I think the reference to this was when she was connected to Super Mina and started crying out of nowhere, or when Senju defended Iida and froze when she was told she was loved. I'm curious about Mina's updates; maybe they are just facial sensors or something like that. I don't think it has to do with more facial personality, although that wouldn't be bad. But I'm also intrigued by Mina's previous owner since they are being mentioned a lot. |

The smug tilt continues to get higher and higher! I hope we see the smuggest tilt to date get animated! @Lampblasted Pre-training a general-purpose Mina to do things the customer doesn't need just makes training her to do the things the customer does need harder. |

Not gonna lie, despite the title, the managed to convey Mina's character development beautifully. Also, Takuma's loneliness and desperate longing for companionship was kinda soul crushing to see, because it will take a heaving emotional tool to endure two full weeks without Mina. |

I quite liked the home movies style first bit of the episode, it’s smart of Takuma to get videos of Mina before whatever changes she’s about to go through. And we got introduced to Iida and Senju in this one, who came to inspect Mina and ship her off to be upgraded, and they revealed some interesting things about the way the Mina Series robots work and how they are treated differently if they’re considered a family member, and I kinda get Iida’s thinking on “they’re just machines”, but see how that changes when you make your robot look like a cute girl lol, if they were very robot in design then it would make more sense to treat them as simply a machine, thankfully Iida learned an important lesson by the end of her meeting with Takuma, I liked that she overloaded Senju after that too lol, Senju is quite the simp for Iida. It was pretty spooky tho when Takuma witnessed Senju going through Mina’s head, that would be like seeing your wife get open brain surgery lol, thankfully Mina’s hands covered where it was open so Takuma didn't get the full view, it’s just unfortunate Takuma had to be restrained since Senju took his raised voice as a threat to Iida, it thankfully ended there tho. And Mina rapid fire kissing Takuma before she left was gold lol, good thing Senju didn’t witness that, otherwise she may have been deemed a threat to humans. It’s sad seeing Mina go, but I’m interested in seeing what upgrade she picked, it will either be something that shakes the series or just a slight change. And it looks like that tiny robot is gonna sorta be like their kid, I had a feeling that was what it was gonna be. |

Them taking pictures together was really cute, especially Mina's peace. The way Takuma immediately said stop when he realized her memories could be reset was great. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for next week's episode. I'm so curious to see what Mina's upgrade is. |

My Wife Left Me (For Two Weeks). Such a hilarious episode title lol. Takuma taking pictures of Mina so he could use them to remember her for the 2 weeks she's absent is pretty cute. Also, Mina used the peace sign the wrong way. Pretty sure that sign is the equivalent of flipping the bird in the UK. Tho I'm not sure if it's still used nowadays. Senju opening Mina's head was one creepy scene. It felt like something was gonna go wrong. But nothing too serious happened. Tho I still wonder what's the explanation for Mina to write Takuma's name in the omelet from that first episode. This episode had a pretty dystopian feel to it. The company giving monthly inspection and memory backups for free? What's the catch? It seems like they're just doing this to avoid a lawsuit. Maybe they or another company already got sued for damaging a family robot. Anyway, I suppose it makes an excellent excuse for Senju and Iida to become recurring characters in the series. People making a CL series robot a family member is unprecedented? Seems to me that either the company or the series of robots is new. Otherwise, humans would make any robot a family member if they get attached to it. Doesn't matter what it is. It could even be a fucking Roomba if it had personality. Despite the funny episode name, it does seem a bit sad that Takuma will be away from his wife for 2 weeks. The dude's gonna get lonely. Hopefully, his friend with the Super Mina robot or his sister will come to visit him. Mina didn't get her upgrade in this episode. I should've expected it. But it seems like that bird robot thing from the OP and ED will make its debut in the next episode. But the next episode's title is "An Appliance Became My Child"? Wtf. Out of all things, I wasn't expecting THAT. I thought it was just gonna be a pet bruh. Can't wait to see Mina's upgrade tho. Hopefully, Takuma won't need to get headbutted on his face multiple times anymore. That seems very painful. |

a little bit of manufactured drama when Takuma has to be restrained by the Senju robot I thought, but still a nice pay off from the scene when the employee realised the family dynamic. Sweet at the end when Senju froze from hearing how the employee was fond of her haha. The show continues to be very sweet.
Mina's shoes were super cute!
Mina's shoes were super cute!
@YordaTrico To be honest, they could have been sued for the attack on Takuma by Senju, and Senju could possibly have been dismantled. As the human inspector stated, she deviated from protocol and skipped the warning going directly to physical violence over him simply raising his voice. I'm a bit curious about how they can possibly give her an "emotional package" (assuming that's what she's ordered; we have no way of really knowing) without being able to scan her "brain." (One hint about the upgrade was her unironically offering to let him keep her hands... I don't think you'll be able to do a whole body skin makeup without those.) Well done over-all, this show is progressing in quality, but this was a transitional episode and I hope we'll get the big reveal in the next. |

@Janethan23 An Artificial Intelligence possibly attaining sentience and evolving other AIs to the same status quo through data communication and neural network fast learning from a role model is serious enough for the manufacturer to concern about. Remember Mina's model is not supposed to run as eccentric and smart as this particular Mina is. |

I thought this episode was especially well-written, and I feel like the writer is starting to add a little depth to the world-building. It's somewhat implausible that a for-profit company would offer the sort of free backup service described here, but this is sci fi, so maybe the eternally soulless quest for profit over decency has been curbed in this vision of the future. I am fascinated by the notion that a robot's personhood derives from the beliefs of the humans around it that it is a family member. This is, of course, a designation only within the company, not relevant to the robot's legal rights, but it's still interesting sci fi to consider. I also thought the MC's dream was very sweet. Even while drowning in a nonsense nightmare, he still loved her, and when he woke he was thinking about improving their life together. There's a lot of nuanced complexity to this series, and I'm never sure how much of it the author is doing on purpose, but whatever the case, I really liked this episode. |

@Narizor yeah, they do all seem to be capable of emotion, and all capable of advanced thought too, as long as they are networked with a single Mina who is advanced-thought-capable ... which is concerning, given their legal status as property. I'm enjoying the series, but I'm really hung up on wanting the Minas to have legal rights as people. I would be super delighted if they found a way to just work that into the mood and vibe of the sweet little romcom, just let us enjoy a carefree future utopia where as soon as people understand that the Mina series are just another type of person, society embraces them and enshrines their rights, and nobody is a jackass about it. |

In real life that's true, but even within the context of fantasy and/or Sci-Fi anime, it's such an omnipresent factor that even there they probably try to allude to or incorporate the sense of opposition and tension in some way. |

EP 6 Its ep 6 already Last time we had talk of mina going for upgrades. hmm phones and cameras hmm. dont know the exact numbers. though i'd think 4000x4000 would be better, they cheaped out? i mean i guess mina has lots of fancy features waait. so mina can just directly connect to super mina? im assuming they shared their uh, permissions before this or somethiing or its like some kind of cloud system its kinda weird though since then whats stopping a network overload also indirectly calling mina uh well thats uhh. yeah uh. definitely a thing. i guess the analogy would be overhearing something on a phone call? hmm. now things are getting complicated i mean it makes sense that the company doing the upgrades would have their own oh wait isnt mina second hand. i guess there's been some shenanigans on that side that as well, would be a shame if something happened so yeah the hardware and the software components are kinda hmmm. its getting pretty complicated here i mean the way its implied something is up with mina, hmmm i mean with or without some kind of manual override mina can just refuse to do if she doesnt want oh yeah i mean well there was the whole thing with the memory card, though i doubt that would be enough in the case of a full reset. like surely there has to be records of the previous ownder and what not for the ownership transfer? or are they just gonna dance around that topic shrug an episode that was awkward i mean it seems rather convenient i mean it sounds almost too good to be true i have to say though even for like normal computers you're not supposed to touch uhh. wouldnt be an episode without some shenanigans happening dream mina is really funneh Soo yeah a lot of talking and what not this ep. 6 more eps to go, next ep, are we gonna see mina or? I mean it would be weird if mina didnt show up the entirety of one ep |

@leonardobarba This is less of an issue in the world than you think it is. The robots are sentient and sapient to begin with. It's really only a question of how sentient and sapient your particular bot is. This isn't a "ROBOTS SHOULDN'T BE SENTIENT!" and more "this smartphone shouldn't be running Crysis on these settings... The hell did the last guy do to it?". I stress that the weirdness is that this particular model shouldn't be able to do it. It's not a security or manufacturing issue as much as it is a head scratcher. If they knew for a fact it wasn't some weird mod or bug, she could spread it to as many other robots as she wants without issue, hypothetically speaking. @leonardobarba They're literally sentient. This entire story has been about robots having their own feelings. From Mina cherishing everything about Takuma, to feeling pride when her specs come into play (Especially when compared favorably to other machines', as evidenced by her frequent Smug Tilts), to Super Mina being happy to be called a friend, and caring deeply about her master, to showing interest in anything and everything, to feeling guilt and shame when unable to perform a task, all the way to Senju feeling particularly protective of her partner, to the point that she disregards protocol to protect said partner, to outright being shocked into a hard reset when finding out her partner likes her. And, spoiler, these are the emotionally stunted ones. The title is an explicit lie to play on your preconceived notions of what robots are capable of experiencing. |

I like how this episode tells you a lot of times that the relationship between these two is straight up creepy and superficial, and Mina is just a substitute of a real, flesh woman. I like how this episode tells you a lot of times that the relationship between these two is straight up creepy and superficial, and Mina is just a substitute of a real, flesh woman. I know they are going to do stuff like "she draws the hearts because she is in love with you" but still is fun to see.
@Hanging_Athena The whole series is them fighting this prejudice. The series isn't "telling" you it's creepy and superficial, it's presenting it as an opinion: One of the many people will have. If there's a gay relationship on screen, and you hear a character or two saying it's gross, the series hasn't suddenly painted the relationship as gross. |

Just having robots like Super Mina makes everything creepy for me. Mina is a hollow case with almost no will and freethinking, Super Mina on the other hand does have a real personality and actually shows emotions, I like how that makes her less useful at times, that is charming. Sorry, I know that Mina showing no emotions is the charm of the show and that there are so many other human x robot stories, but in this one in particular I found it extremely pathetic cuz Mina is just an empty excuse of a wife that Takuma literally bought for himself, and based on the name of the next episode, looks like they are going to throw a "son" to the dynamic too. I think this trope has been done waaay better in plenty of other animes, although I admit that it is cute at times. Sorry. |

@Hanging_Athena I don't know where you get the idea that she has "almost no will" when half of the show is her literally doing the unexpected, entirely without prompt from Takuma, without being programmed to do so from the start, and even going to great lengths to make sure that Takuma doesn't override her will. Did you forget the part where she noticed he was going to refuse all the upgrades she insisted on? Remember what she did? She used the fact that he hasn't specifically told her not to take them, literally split the catalogue in half, gave Takuma the one where he can order additional units safe in the knowledge that he won't use it, then claimed the half with the upgrades as his wife so she can make her own orders. And then, just before he explicitly ordered her not to do anything, she reminded him that she's his wife, but that she's also obligated to follow his orders. And by using that, he relented, understanding that if she's to be a real wife and not just some appliance he plays house with, she has to be allowed to make her own choices. No will? I have no idea what you're smoking, but I want some! And you say she "doesn't show emotions", but again, the other half of the show is her clearly possessing emotions. Like, you seem to think Facial Expressions = Emotions here, and it's weird. |

It's just really impossible for me to see her as an emotional being because of how she is, of course is not about showing her emotions with facial expressions and there are moments when she does show emotions through actions and words, but those moments don't really stand out or mean nothing for me. I suppose I just dislike the show premise and that's why I don't really acknowledge -or want to acknowledge- anything of what you are pointing out. I'm sorry, I don't mean to argue or baiting people to get angry. I might have my problems with the show premise but at least is cute nonetheless. |

@Hanging_Athena I can see where you're coming from, frankly. I imagine I'd have trouble acknowledging people feel pain myself if I just ignored every time they screamed when I stabbed them. "Its just a reflex; water sacks don't have feelings". But yeah, this is the exact prejudice that's explored in the story. Not everyone agrees with the relationship, and everyone has their own take on it. Funny how the audience is mirroring this dynamic IRL. |

yeah, they do all seem to be capable of emotion, and all capable of advanced thought too, as long as they are networked with a single Mina who is advanced-thought-capable ... which is concerning, given their legal status as property.

Unfortunately, if there is ever a bid to confer personhood upon them, expect a section of society to oppose it vehemently and basically riot. In real life that's true, but even within the context of fantasy and/or Sci-Fi anime, it's such an omnipresent factor that even there they probably try to allude to or incorporate the sense of opposition and tension in some way.
@WatchTillTandava I don't know. The more history I read, the more I understand that our ideas about the omnipresence of human jackassery stems from a flawed reading of the human archeological record. It's convenient for the purveyors of the status quo for us to believe that nothing better has ever existed or could ever exist, but in reality humans are more creative than that, and the more we study our own past, the more variety of past social organizations we find. If that's true of the past, there's no reason not to postulate it for the future. I can recommend some reading on the topic if you're interested. |

They're afraid of retaliation. Senju outright explains this. Imagine people losing their loved ones because a company decided to discontinue maintenance for some "old model", or outright murdering them for "scheduled maintenance".
Seems like geth-style networking. They all get smarter as they keep linking up. The Super Mina just has a lot more processing power. But a series of weaker Minas would do the job too.

It's somewhat implausible that a for-profit company would offer the sort of free backup service described here, but this is sci fi, so maybe the eternally soulless quest for profit over decency has been curbed in this vision of the future.

@HyperlinkBlocked Retaliation: Oh, no argument there. But I dismissed the on-screen explanation as insufficient for a successful for-profit company with armies of lawyers and piles of advertising money to ensure exclusively good publicity. It's a sufficient explanation for treating the family member robots more carefully, sure, but not to a degree that might cost the company money. That's why I looked for possible unspoken reasons to supplement the spoken reason. And I'm not complaining about it, to be clear. I like fiction about nicer people than in our current world, especially in sci fi. I think we all need to be inspired to seek a nicer future. I just also think it's important to notice: this degree of niceness is not something contemporary corporations do for people. I look forward to a future where they do. |

@WerewolfAshen Well you'll be pleased to know there are, in fact, deeper reasons... that probably happen too late into the manga (And well into the shitty part of it, to boot) to ever be animated. But if you're desperate for more, you can power through some of the more... avant garde chapters to get more of a feeling for what's going on. |

So at this point I think it’s safe to say that our poor poor Mc has an IQ of around 60. Its the reason he 1. Lives alone 2. Has such a low paying job he lives in a one room apartment and 3. Has no friends or family except his sister who checks on him to make sure he’s still alive from time to time 😂😂😂😂😂 The show has been cute and sweet up to this point and I’ve really enjoyed it but this episode just seemed out of place.. why not upgrade Mina to the “Super” model? He’s looking for a companion so why wouldn’t he want her to have facial expressions? Why wouldn’t he want her body to soft? Why wouldn’t he want her to have more expressive emotions and for them to be able to do more together? There’s really no leg to stand on for wanting her to stay a cold metal robot is there? He can’t have a robot fetish can he?! He’s never touched a woman in his life so I think the fetish a stretch but what do I know.. for all I know he’s secretly sleeping with the toaster, the tv, or the rice cooker! What kind of monster is he?! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 |

@acidbart He doesn't go for Super Mina because it's an unbelievably expensive upgrade. The guy is opposed to accepting any upgrades at all. The one who wanted upgrades was Mina, and she got to choose those on her own. That said, he loves Mina just the way she is. And while he knows there are clear advantages to having a soft Mina, it's not the Mina he fell for. |

@HyperlinkBlocked As far as I understand the "Super Mina" isn't an upgrade at all, that's just another robot. What Mina wanted was the "Mina Series Deluxe Option Set," and that was in the second half of the book which she kept for herself. The first half was the products; the second was the upgrades. |
