This was a joint team effort to seal the biggest threat of the season/finale. Just glad to see everything working out in the end because the emotional stakes. Not going to lie, I think even in this episode, they managed to define Chise's personality and her selfless nature. There were also some wholesome moments again but man, this truly an incredible journey from these latest episodes. |

The resounding finale to save Philomela out of her curse implanted by Lizbeth, she did break out of it thanks to Morrigan that now, she is owed one. For Lizbeth to think that she can mould Philomela to be like her father Adam, it's just too big of a difference. As if that part of the conflict is resolved, Philomela enquiring about the Webster disaster, Zaccheroni has to come in, thwart the werewolf and get the Testament back from any remnant enemies before they can make more harm. The old Chise is back being exhausted of all her powers, and Elias has to be responsible for sending her back home. Philomela is back at Chise and Elias's home, and Silky...sure made the arrangements to get her refreshed. Along with the rest who traveled on Elias's shadow and escorted back to their home as well. It's the Winter vacation, and Chise is just as glad that Philomela is now alright, as everyone recovers and appears fine to celebrate the Christmas festivities. Chise even offering Cartaphilus/Joseph his portion of the food that Skily made, he feels like he's still being taken care of by her in some capacity. At long last, the entire manga is adapted (though skipping some sidelined plot and future plot pointers)...that is, the ongoing source material that's returning from its hiatus, focusing on the next chapter: the Fiendbane a.k.a Beast arc. Needless to say, the entire College arc a.k.a Season 2 was one hell of a slow slog and dragged affair. Nevertheless, a fine showing overall, though I'd prefer Season 1 much more. |

Well, here we are, at the end ... at last. At first i was very excited for this whole "magic school" arc, was excited to see more of the magus world that we have seen only in bits till now ... but unfortunately, the second part of the second season suffers from the same problems as the first part .. of the second season. Its simply way too stretched, and frankly it felt boring, not as in nothing happened boring, happend quite a lot actually, but you cant help to feel like none of that matters. I dont know, maybe i just want Chise and Elias and Silky and the dog guy go back to their little house on the countryside and go from there one ... like it used to be. |

The grandma got killed and looks like Veronica was behind it. She has the wolf cub too. Was she/her family also behind the webster family incident? Otherwise this episode focused on the new friends Chise made and Philomela now that she's free and can make any choice she wants but doesn't know what she wants. Intime she'll come to know herself and others. Elias giving Chise flower was sweet. Wish there was more of them this season. We even got a teaser for next season at the end there. And that's it for the season. Was pretty underwhelming for most parts except Philomela's parents story and some more lore which I liked. They dragged it for long, two entire cours. I hope things get better and become how it was in s1 as I really enjoyed it. Need more Chise and Elias. Their character interactions, influence on each other and growth is the best part of this anime alongside the great worldbuilding and none of those were present this season. |

Can we just talk about this OP. It's a frickin' masterpiece imo. One of the best OPs this season. Oh right, Elias read this book way back in season 1, right? Or maybe in the beginning of this season (previous cour). The art and animation are soooo good! NOOOO I really wanted to hear the reason behind the attack Oh god, Veronica has the book and one of the werewolf children is her familiar. Next antagonist? Philomela laughing is one of the most precious things I've ever seen. The whole second half was so comfy and wholesome. Whoa, what? Sequel announcement? This caught up with the manga and it's on hiatus, right? Is this the same situation as with Bungo Stray Dogs where the anime caught up, but they confirmed that it will continue? Or maybe the anime will continue with the mangaka writing the story? So exciting! 9/10, same as the previous cour and the first season. I reeally liked this! Many people seemed to like this less than season 1, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A beautiful anime, both story and visuals. The fact that Studio Kafka only made the 3 episode OVA (The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm) and the second season of this series makes me believe that they have good working conditions, and this is why they were able to deliver such a well-made product, even though it's not that popular. |

Okay episode to conclude the season but overall, this was a letdown considering how much I loved the world and atmosphere of the first part. This dragged, the characters were nowhere near as interesting for most of the season and the production while not bad, didn't obviously match what WIT could offer back in 2017-18. The second cour was better than the first (especially because of the final few episodes), but this was miles off the first season for me. I think because of how mediocre the majority of the season was, the Philomela episodes towards the end while solid, didn't have as strong of an impact as it should have because of what preceded it. |

And that's a wrap, also the last we'll see of Chise, Elias, and the rest for at least a few years since this caught up to the source and it's been on hiatus for a while now while the creator works alongside the adaptation... provided they don't do something idiotic like going anime-original. On the plus side, manga's been recently announced to be coming off of hiatus and continuing the next arc which promises to be very intriguing with old friends potentially becoming new enemies. Looking forward to it. I enjoyed this season, overall, seeing the page brought to life. |

Awesome finale. I know a lot of fans of the first season haven’t liked all the Philomela stuff, but for me this has been the best Mahoyome has been. Loved seeing her break free of her grandmother’s hold thanks to Chise. The liberation of Philomela is complete and it’s been a great journey that’s made everyone in the cast grow. So cool seeing her Thor’s lightning spell in that final fight. The resolve on her face was a far cry from the shy and scared girl from part 1. I did sense a little lingering regret from the grandmother at the end when she envisioned Philomela as a little girl. The entire family was fucked up honestly so there’s only so much you can blame her. Sucks that Lucy never got to get an explanation about why her family was attacked. But in the end would’ve it have really changed anything ๐ค think it’s best for everyone to start moving forward together. So the goddess finally had her child, I wonder what type of character they’ll end up being. Philomela is finally saying the things she wants! This time it’s Chise’s potkurri, complete 180 from her. Cute scene of them in the snow! And the ending with all the friends finally reunited was sweet too. Everyone can finally move forward now. Wow the post credits scene was really interesting. Looks like a new big bad is coming. Season 3 please ๐๐พ |

Excellent season finale. While it was very slow throughout and a little over-ambitious, overall I really enjoyed this season (both cours). Lots of quietly beautiful moments, with a strange mix of wonder, horror, and emotional release. Loved how the spells and chants were written, when Philomena was reading the book and when she was summoning lightning. Their interactions with Morrigan and the "gods" were fascinating, they felt otherworldly and dangerous. I didn't expect to feel so happy for them in the end. Even if these characters weren't too deep or memorable, I spent so much time with them that it turns out they sneakily grew on me. I haven't seen anything quite like this in a while (I have yet to check out Frieren still). I'm gonna miss this series. |

The Fiendbane? Well that sounds interesting. I'm actually a bit surprised they would confirm, or at least heavily imply, another season so soon considering afaik the manga's not THAT far ahead right now, but then I suppose I've only read through Volume 18 so I could be wrong. Btw my copy of Volume 19 is still on backorder those lousy fucks. PSA never preorder manga from amazon a week or less out from the release date. They'll screw you everytime. But anyway, this college/Philomela arc turned out pretty good I'd say. It definitely started slow and felt like it dragged at times. But I enjoyed the new characters for the most part and ultimately how it all came together. I remember thinking the whole time that that Veronica was gonna be a much bigger deal but now it seems like that's what's coming next. If I had to say which season I liked more I'd probably pick the first by a smidge, but I'll still give this a solid 8/10. Looking forward to more. |

so in the end Philomela resisted her grandma for real. A bit ambiguous if she did atleast like Philomela a little, but who cares she sucked lol. And Veronica did have something to do with it all as well! Will that matter though? Will all these side characters even reappear in a meaningful way? This was all just a little side adventure after all. Atleast I hope it was because I cant stand more of this slow and unfocussed academy part of the story. The entire basement part was visually confusing as hell. I think its odd how much focus this season set on Rian and Philomela having a past when it had 0 impact on the conclusion. You would think he would atleast be part of the rescue group but nope he only reappeared once everything was done. Im glad this arc is finally done because if Im honest I did not enjoy it much at all. Way too dragged out and just not good enough for how long it was. Was the end a confirmation for season 3? PS: Is this actually all of the manga?! There isnt more of it?? Huh, that somehow makes this season even worse in a way.. PPS: This entire franchise is a bit of an enigma to me, I had my issues with season 1 as well but this season reminded me of how much I actually love it all, which is ironic because its the weakest of all its entries. The world just feels truly magical in a way no other does, since most just treat magic as a form a combat power. But it struggles to actually do anything meaningfull with the setting. Should probably stick to an anthology style set of OVAs instead of seasons which have no narrative drive. |

The second half of this episode is what this series is about, and that's what I loved and do love even now. Satisfying conclusion with granny biting the dust(was very loooooong overdue btw) and Philomela sort of finding that freedom and happiness too(that was very loooooooong overdue too). Fine enough second half of the second season but can't lie. This didn't feel the same the very first season did.. the entirety of second season tbh. I like the world, I like the characters, though can't help but feel they put too much emphasis on a single character and her circumstances throughout the course of these 24 episodes, that it actually felt... a bit too much to even care about. In short, the first season still tops lol. Anyways, the last thirty seconds or so made it quite obvious that we'd see a third season someday. Though when.. no one knows. Hope it'd be in this century though:) |

With this and Dr Stone Thursdays were amazing this season, enjoyed and loved the heck out of this show, I know a lot of people didn't like it as much but there was something about Philomela and Chise that really click with me and we finally got to see her genuinely smile, Lucy also got a new friend but as it was teased Veronica is up to no good, after all the Sargant lineage is nothing more but tools so this is far from over. Ofc Chise had to go ahead and get the attention of yet another elder entity / deity, you know they weren't joking when they told Chise she got lucky she didn't had to offer 100 warrior heads to Morrigan. This means Chise is a child of men, Beloved Child of the Night, Dragon Child and her newly adquired title Goddess' Child. New project teased, whether it is movie or another season, I can't wait for it but I know we will have to wait. RIP Alcyone. <3 Silky |

I feel sorta conflicted. I did like it but it wasn’t season 1. Studio wit really captured something magical in the first season that I don’t think the second came close to. I still think the story was pretty good which mostly carried the season. I wonder if this part is better in the manga if at least for the art and pacing being better. But idk. Maybe 7/10 for now |

A far more fulfilling season finale than I expected, though this season was much poorer than the first. I almost dropped it due to the story's unhealthy obsession with Philomela and her almost non existent character development during 24 episodes. Only at the very end she finally woke up... Predictably Veronica Rickenbacker and/or her family were the ringleaders behind the murders of Lucy's family. Who else could it be since, as were told, the Sargants serve the Rickenbackers? And that werewolf brat who served Veronica beheaded the hag right before spilling the beans. |

I read a lot of comments describing this season as boring and slow. Yes this season has moved the story along very slowly (sometimes really too slowly), but it has allowed us to get to know all the new characters well. I found all of Chise's new friends very likeable and I could sympathize with them. Philomela, as the main focus of the season, was well characterized and I could empathize with her story. I was very pleased that she was able to trust Chise and her other friends in the end and perhaps also overcome her childhood trauma. I'm glad that the evil grandma is finally dead. I couldn't stand her any more at some point. The end of the season really touched my heart to see everyone celebrating Christmas together. I would have liked the reunion scene between Philomela and Rian to be a bit more emotional and longer. Nevertheless, on the whole I am very satisfied with this season. Hopefully season 3 will not be too long in coming. |

I must say, considering how much of a slow burn that arc has been, the pay off towards the end was worth it. The climax of the battle against Lizbeth was done pretty well, although the book was sadly stolen yet again, so that'll have to be dealt with at another time. The intriguing part is that the child of the wolf has links towards Veronica, so I guess it once again raises my suspicions about her in general. Either way, having Chise's friends stay at her and Elias's place during the Winter break was wholesome. The best part, aside from more Silky screentime, was finally seeing Philomela smiling and laughing so naturally. That's a guaranteed way to put a smile on my face! =D Overall, I'll rate this an 8/10, just like with the first half of season two. It has its flaws, but the concept and character development have been satisfying. The last 30 seconds of the episode hinted that there will be a continuation, although I don't think it'll be airing anytime soon. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait, though. |

Reply to Weremir
@ggloll I believe this is interpretation of one old god from Cthulhu Mythos Shub-Niggurath
@Weremir Yeah, I dunno if the sub team screwed with the translation, or if the chant's wording was just straight up changed, but at the very least in the manga it's A LOT more obvious who's power was being invoked and who ended up showing up based on Morrigan's comment and the chanting lines. To me at least it seemed like Quachil Uttaus was being invoked to return the unnamed god to nothing but then Shub-Niggurath showed up because of interest in Chise. |

Ah, what an episode, what a season! I think it really combined the charme of the first season with elements of a mystery thriller in all the good ways. Plenty of wholesome episodes along the way and at the very end. Chise showing some selfishness and hugging Cartaphilus/ wHat was Cartaphilus was also prettyy man deep. This was the pick me up that I needed after watching the last season of Attack on Titan. I love how this show did not disappoint for 3 seasons despite having not that big of a budget (probably). Easy 8/10 for me! |

Did Chise and the rest just make contact with an interdimensional creature? Well, this last couple of episodes sure had a certain "Lovecraft" vibe to them so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised. Anyways, lovely finale to conclude an overall fairly dramatic season. Gotta say I enjoyed Part 1 a bit more since it had more storylines for one to focus on but fortunately, having almost an entire cour solely focused on Philomela's struggle didn't end up being as tedious as I expected. I'm not a huge fan of the archetype Philomela represents yet the way her traumas were explored felt very realistic and I think the author did particularly great by still making her ask for help (as first step for a proper recovery) despite we already knowing Chise would help her either way. 7,5/10 -> 8/10 - Minor complain would be Rian not being part of the rescue group considering he's more relevant to Philomela than Isaac but well. P.S.: Damn Veronica. I knew it! |
