| My username is definitely cringe but at least the story behind it is mildly interesting. The first online account I ever really created was a YouTube Channel back when I was 12 so that I could favorite videos to re-watch later. I didn't want to use my real name so when coming up with a fake name I decided to pick something Japanese since I was a bit enamored with the country at the time since I noticed that all the most popular games / shows at school were from Japan (Pokemon, Yugioh, Beyblade, Bakugan, Nintendo Franchises, etc). The first name I could think of was Kyoto, although of course in reality this is the name of a city and not an actual name given to people. On top of that, my Dad lived in Japan for a few years and explained to me they use honorifics at the end of names with the highest honorific being sama which I misremembered as being somo. In addition, it's worth mentioning that YouTube names couldn't have spaces in them at the time, so all this together is how I wound up with the completely nonsensical username Kyotosomo. I then proceeded to just go ahead and use that username everywhere else too. And unfortunately shortly after I got serious about YouTube and started regularly posting content the Channel blew up before I even had the chance to consider a name change so now that Kyotosomo is what hundreds of thousand of people know me by I'm basically stuck with it (wouldn't want the name change to confuse people or piss them off). But hey, at least it's unique I guess, better than xXxSniperMaster262xXx or some other shit like that which was common for the era. |
