One mediocre season (season 5) has seemingly made most of the anime community forget just how good the first 4 seasons of My Hero Academia is. Only One Piece and Naruto reach the highs that this show brings. All-Might vs NOMU? Goated. Hero Killer Stain? Chills af. All-Might vs One For All? iconic. Endeavor redemption arc? the feels.

Top notch animation, great OP/ED, and 10/10 fights. No wonder it was the most popular shonen of the 2010s

One bad season can really bring a series especially with how flooded we are with good anime nowadays.

MHA started turning into garbage for me from S3 itself. Only the first 2 seasons were good.

MHA is just too repetitive in its storytelling. Also Deku is a very boring protagonist to watch. He spouts out similar lines all the time and has very cookie cutter ideals.

More like 2 and a half seasons, which is literally half the show. Everything after All For One has been meh at best.

I'd say MHA went down in quality right after S2 though. You can even see it reflected in the ratings. S2 had the highest rating, then it gradually went down with each passing season. I don't think S5 is "the only bad season". I just think S5 was the one to really hammer in the fact that it's well past its prime.

Having read the manga too, I can say that it certainly doesn't get better.

Isn't All might vs One for all one of the most disappointing fight in the series?

tbh I didn't like bnha season 1 (it was really cliché in my opinion), but then season 2 occurred and I was really invested ( i even read the manga), but lately the hyperfocus on Deku made me lost all interest in everything is going on... so yeh, not bad but also not fantastic i would say

must be either a beast or a god: he is no part of a state."

I like the concept and action of MHA. But there's way too much dialogue and introspection when it comes to developments and events in the story. I also find Deku uninteresting as an MC.

Shonen fans love tournament arcs (SEASON 2) more than their own kids for some reason. Its hard to find a tournament arc that isnt highly praised at this point

True. Even though I generally don't like tournament arcs, and I also didn't even find S2 particularly good (6/10). It's simply that relative to the other arcs MHA has to offer, it was probably the best.

The other arcs are just derivate, lack emotional connection, lack interesting character/character development and are uninspired. Although to be fair, a tournament arc is inherently uninspired. So it's mostly just the first three reasons.

The IV season, along with the V, hurt the seriesสผ potential, in my opinion. I wish we could get the S2 level quality for the upcoming one.

I think it was Gigguk who once said that MHA is basically "a 6/10 series with 10/10 moments" sprinkled in.

Honestly, I think that assessment is pretty accurate and I can agree with it. So to me, it balances out to being an 8/10 series overall, lol.

What prevents this show from being great is it's cast is too large and the show has a hard time finding meaningful moments for them. I agree versus Stain was great, because it was UA Students. None of those other moments showcased the students. Both Bleach and Naruto did a better job of writing out characters via world building, and giving each character their moment

The main problem of MHA, is that the more it advanced, the more stale it became, because it would just stuck in a status quo of training/school > villain >training/school > villain > training/school > villain, that seemed to go nowhere.

It stuck to that formula for so fucking long, that people started to get bored of it, especially because nothing seemed to impact the overarching plot for a long time. Because right around the corner there was another pointless training/slice of life arc. And by the time the whole story changed and the status quo broke, it was a little too late, many people already left the show out of boredom, and the fact that the production and animation quality started to dip considerable season by season, made things even worse for the audience.

All-Might vs NOMU is a good fight, but is it really goated? It's not even top 5 in MHA

Hero Killer Stain was a very short arc sadly

All-Might vs One For All is great

And finally, for the Endeavor redemption arc, it sucks ass. I will assume you are talking about manga here, and if that is right, this "redemption" is really overused for no reason and doesn't have a clear outcome

I dont really care much for Endeavor as a character, I just think the last 2 episodes he got in s4 were a 10/10. Someone who doesnt watch my hero can watch his fight vs nomu and feel the emotion. Its got 89% 5/5 on MAL so clearly its praise is warranted

Yes, the seasons 1-4 were very good, however season 5 lacked the substance and since everything gets spread like a wildfirez the news of MHA did as well and hence the decline

The constant try and need to show the school aspect of it and giving every side character of the class proper screentime is what makes it kinda boring for me. The first 2 seasons were fine and it went downhill after that with the 5th season just having one of the most boring arcs I've seen in shounen.

It's one of the best anime out there in my top 5!! People need to just shut up and drop the show if you don't like it it's so annoying all the haters and people calling the show average like no one really cares about your opinion LOL also some people literally said they don't like the show or think its average just cause someone else thought so. Like be yourself no one is going to hurt you to be different. Also bakugo is the hottest and best character of all time โค๏ธ

Idk, S5 wasn't even that bad it was just standard battle shounen stuff and nothng special but still very solid in its execution imo. I still think it's the best battle shounen of recent memory and especially season 3 was close to perfect. People who say it went downhill after season 2 must not really pay attention to what's going on in the show because season 3 was full of amazing payoff moments from all the buildup and characterization of the first two seasons. The show clearly peaked during S3 and after that it has started to get into a typical battle shounen long-runner rhythm and I can understand not everyone being a fan of that, but personally I watch battle shounen because I like them so if a show like MHA starts just doing generic battle shounen shit, it's still a pretty great watch because it does it better than most similar shows.

Most of the comments that shit on MHA, like it is with most popular battle shounen, seem to consist mostly of people who just don't really like the entire battle shounen genre and find it inherently bad if a show is doing standard battle shounen things, even if it does them well. I can't really relate to that because I like battle shounen and wouldn't watch them expecting them to not be like a battle shounen if I didn't like the genre. But I guess that's what popularity brings with it, tons of people who watch the show despite not liking the genre it is from and randomly expecting it to be different and not just very good at being a battle shounen.

I also strongly disagree with everyone who's saying the show is bad because it has too many side characters and focuses too much on them. That's exactly what makes it good and somewhat unique, the way it balances screentime between the entire class and doesn't just show the same 2-4 characters all the fucking time like a lot of other battle shounen. The teamwork and support dynamics are what it interesting to watch and set it apart from a lot of other battle shounen. It's not as committed to the teamwork stuff as World Trigger is (which I also love for that reason) but definitely more so than most other battle shounen I've seen (and I've seen them all).
I probably regret this post by now.
