I think the general consensus with the last one was if you don’t, then you're not taking the work of fiction in in its entirety

It really depends on the anime. For exemple I don't think I've learned anything with Death Note, even though this one could have some phisolophical thoughts.

There are some movies or OAVs that have to be watched as you would do for poetry. It's the same lyrism. (sorry if my English isn't correct)

Yeah me too, I don't know if they really have changed my life but sometimes you need 15min or more to recover from emotions.

It depends. Some anime are dedicated only to entertainment and some anime don't have any valuable lesson you could learn in real life (eg death note)
Some anime have lesson you didn't need to learn because you already knew (in my case fmab), but others have something that will change you

i dont think any anime has really impacted my life since the stuff i've watched boils down to "not being like this"

like how in death note setting unrealistic goals along with having a god complex or maybe just being a narcissist will catch up to you but i already knew that. this isn't even life changing but the only "life message" i've taken from watching anime is learning certain ideals and philosophies from stuff like monster and whatnot
good opinions on anything, block = I own you

Yes I do, but not rly for myself and rather deep msgs than life lessons. Although Death Note is quite a bad example for that.
Btw I believe your last poll was blocked/relocated by a Moderater, bc it has nothing to do with the anime

Definitely yes,
I'm always saying a 10/10 must have a live lesson, but was shocked my friends didn't understand me.

I learnt something very useful from a single anime.....which is Naruto. The message which is spread in the entire series is that....
"Never give up"!.... and yeah I myself follow that rule.....

It completely depends on the Anime you are watching, because a few situations or characters can be relatable and that part really hits hard. For example I just finished watching HunterxHunter and the last quote really meant something. It's not like we learn something new every time we watch an anime, but a few selective ones do teach life lessons.Following them is another thing.

Sort of.. if nothing else, it at least gets me thinking, but like most people I'm not necessarily watching it with the express intent being to learn and expand my horizons. I simply want to watch something entertaining for 20ish minutes and go on with my day.

Yeah,I generally watch shows for fun but i always prefer Psychological shows which've got hidden meaning and lessons in them.Although the biggest factor for me is mental influence, which is pretty closely related to "deep" shows.

I mostly watch for entertainment but some of my favorite shows have some pretty relatable characters and it’s nice to see yourself reflected in a character. Not speaking about Deathnote lol

Depends on the anime. Most are just for entertainment but some can be very educational or philosophically motivational which can make you learn things or make you look at different perspectives of a matter.

I never give much thought, when I watch a show. If I watch a show just to take life lessons, I wont enjoy it. Some things might have influenced me in my life, But I'm really not aware if anything like that is true for me.

For me, Anime is just a source of entertainment and nothing much

Death note life lesson is something along the line of "u have to pay for ur sins" or "look in the mirror before point out flaws of other" or even better "world doesn't give preference to anyone whether good or bad"

Anyways, i can feel a message or theme forming for every anime. Only thing is some are poorly told and some are greatly emphasised.
I do watch anime for the story and message is one of the core part of storytelling. So it is important to me.

Now whether I take them in my daily life is a entirely different thing. I might retain some of it subconsciously. But humans doesnt suddenly change by watching some entertainment media.

Anime has brought about some character development in myself, so yes
If you are from South East Asia, then I request you, when you will start an anime, you search if it is available on Muse Asia and Ani-one Asia, before looking through piracy websites

I don't learn any life lessons from anime but I do love analysing the theme, symbolism and philosophical ideas of certain anime. A few examples are monster, evangelion, vinland saga, shinsekai yori, parasyte, fate zero, sel, psycho pass, texhnolyze, paranoia agent.

Yes, I am always gleaning whatever useful insight I can when I am watching anime (or consuming any fictional work for that matter). For example, Death Note includes a central ethical dichotomy between Good vs Evil, Right vs Wrong, "How do we define right/wrong?," etc. Other anime may be providing a satirical meta-commentary on certain genres, like One Punch Man. And then there are other animes that simply exist to provide excitement/thrills, but even those may have something to glean. The intentions of authors may be hidden underneath all the glitz, glamour, and guns, and it's always fun to see what could be there.

I've had some philosophical thoughts when I watched things like Trigun. For instance, so long as people believe strongly in in their ideologies and so long as those ideals oppose another's, even if the understand each other, they may not agree with each other and therefore will be conflict and war

Yes definitely! For me Devilman Crybaby was one of them. Next to life lessons I think some anime hold really good quotes (also life lessons) that I think of almost every day, things you really see in rl. Naruto has a lottt of moments that are very much realistic. Like pain his speech? I think about it a lot because it’s just straight up pure facts.

Also my fav is from Black Clover:

Surpass your limits!! - Yami

I use this in daily life ^^

Sometimes, but still, then the realization comes that this is an anime, and not real life, instead of a screenwriter, we have a boss, and he is unlikely to prescribe strength, luck and dexterity for us, rather the opposite :P

unless motivation, some anime really give it (or characters, for example Hairo from Saiki Kusuo no Psi nan)

Obviously, it depends on the show. There are anime that are just entertainment similar to summer popcorn movies or your standard comedy flick and etc. While other anime do go for something deeper that may resonate with their audience. So when it comes to the latter, of course, I will look for the lesson or message the show is trying to convey. And if it resonates with me, I will most definitely see how it relates to my daily life and such. Because if I don't then what worth are the meanings and lessons we take from media if it doesn't personally affect us? stories in any form of media are a part of your life experiences and your memories. The stories we grow up with or that resonate with us, shape and affect who we are. And it doesn't even have to be the deepest or most profound lesson in the world, just as long as you can take something away from those stories.

Sometimes yeah I take lessons from anime. I'm using the term life lessons loosely here, but any inspiring anime moments or moments I find 'cool', I embrace it to get myself motivated.

Of course one shouldn't reject learning from anything out of principle, but anime is just entertainment.
It's good enough for life lessons up until one graduates from high school or so, but there's hardly anything anime can teach you which can't be easily expanded (or rejected) even by just listening to a joe rogan podcast. And I'm definitely not recommending joe rogan for life lessons, let's be clear about it.

TL;DR: you can learn random bits of culture, history, science, even language from anime. Life lessons are a slightly different matter.

I don't agree. I feel as though your discrediting too much on how a certain anime can affect its audience. Its like your grouping an entire medium into a small group that couldn't exceed a certain ceiling of quality. When that couldn't be far from the truth. Sure a lot of anime pander to teenagers like your standard shonen, but I don't expect no high school student or whatever to fully appreciate or understand the more "deeper" stuff like Sonny Boy and whatnot.

Anime is full of valuable wisdom, encouragement and life lessons. I'd be a fool to not heed some of it once in a while.

How heavy are the dumbbells you lift anime seemed like a good lesson on how to exercise and be healthy. But I'm no expert on that stuff to know how true it is and I know there's no way in hell you can be as buff as those male characters without some steroids, probably.

1) Just because a show deeply affects the watchers doesn't mean its message is deep nor does it mean it has any life lesson to teach
2) I don't see the strawman you're rebuking
3) What's there to learn from Sonny Boy? (Spoiler: whatever you're going to answer my reply is going to be a condescending "wow, truly impressive")

1. Well how do you determine something as deep? or a life lesson? and why anime of all mediums do you feel the need to single out as not capable of providing such things. Not every anime is the same, just like books or movies.

2. I don't even know what you mean by that. Please clarify

3. If you already have a bias against Sonny Boy, or anime in general, then I don't feel the need to waste my time giving you an answer. You already have a condensing tone anyway, so save your reply to this third comment.

Ah yes, my bias against Sonny Boy despite having Rajdhani as one of the favourited characters. You could have at least checked my profie, just in case... As for the rest, again, I kinda refuse to be held accountable for your misunderstanding of what I said.

I think it's more accurate to say I've had certain beliefs/notions reinforced by anime rather than actually learning new ideas by watching it. I am not so deluded as to believe that being kind all the time is a good idea because...well, humans are awful and they'll take advantage of you. But that's sort of the appeal of anime for me...a glimpse into the ideal world.

Yes, for me too!

It's encouraging to occasionally have a place to watch nice things happen to good people when chance doesn't always break that way in real life

The true mark of a 10/10 anime is its ability to affect your life. I think this is the pinnacle that any form of media aspires to. Now there is nothing wrong with shows that are all about “turn your brain off fun”, but this can also depend on your perspective.

Death Note is either an allegory for the corruptive nature of power and teaches us to be skeptical of those who promise us Utopia. Or it’s just a thriller with an interesting twist and an unfortunately laggy end. Both perspectives are an acceptable way to view the series and we shouldn’t feel limited either way.
