Publishing company Kodansha announced a television anime adaptation of Miki Yoshikawa's Kakkou no Iinazuke (A Couple of Cuckoos) manga on Tuesday, scheduled for a 2022 airing. Kadokawa also opened an official website, revealing the lead cast, staff, the first key visual (pictured), and first promotional video.

Kaito Ishikawa (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) and Akari Kitou (Tsurezure Children) are starring as Nagi Umino and Erika Amano, respectively.

Staff
Chief Director: Hiroaki Akagi (Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, Mashiro no Oto)
Director: Yoshiyuki Shirahata (Great Pretender episode director, Watashitachi, Luck Logic-bu! assistant episode director)
Series Composition: Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen, Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun)
Character Design: Aya Takano (Himouto! Umaru-chan, Shirokuma Cafe)
Studio: Shin-Ei Animation, SynergySP

Synopsis
16-year-old super-studier Nagi Umino, second-year student at the Meguro River Academy high school, was switched at birth. On his way to a dinner to meet his birth parents, he accidentally meets the brash, outspoken, Erika Amano, who is determined to make Nagi her fake boyfriend as she never wants to actually marry. But once Nagi makes it to dinner, he finds his parents have decided to resolve the hospital switch by conveniently having him marry the daughter his birth parents raised...who turns out to be none other than Erika herself! Prior to serialization, Yoshikawa published a one-shot in Weekly Shounen Magazine in September 2019, approximately 2.5 years after ending Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches). The romantic comedy manga joined the magazine's regular lineup the following January. Kodansha published the fifth volume on January 15, with the sixth volume shipping on April 16.

Kodansha US licensed the manga in English last November and released the third volume on March 9.

This will definitely be popular

Never expected the character designs to be so different from the original manga. Still they look good.

PV looks so good, Erika looks beautiful and her hair colour looks beautiful too. Also great, Akari Kito is voicing her.

I was somewhat interested by the synopsis on the manga page, but then I saw the Harem tag. My interest quickly waned.

"They escaped the weight of darkness,
to forge a path into the marrow of the spirit.
They chose to drown in a deeper vacancy,
an emptiness that quells the null,
a pool for the forgotten..."

I could talk for hours about how stupid the modern harem hate is, but hey, this manga is as much a harem as Go-Toubun. It's almost imperceptible.

Based on the uniqueness of the plot and how good the animation looks, I think A Couple of Cuckoos deserves 8 as a rating.

Perhaps that rating will change once I've finished watching the anime.

The manga started out pretty interesting, but got ruined by the harem stuff after like 20-30 chapters... Let's see how far the anime will adapt.
Don't mind me,
just passing by...

One of my favourite things about this announcement is that it occurred on the same day as Nagi and Erika's birthday. But overall, with how popular this manga is, I'm not really surprised that it received an adaptation. I'm really looking forward to it.

I was having hopes for this one, but the main girl got sidelined in exchange of adding more love interests. It's not getting anywhere.

The original character design looks a tad nicer than the animated one, but despite that I'm looking forward to this.

The manga's kinda meh. The premise was interesting, but it kinda squandered its execution. I liked both Yamada-kun and Yankee-kun, but this one just hasn't worked for me. That being said, the PV looks good, I guess? The artwork is clean, but the character designs do seem a bit off. Nagi, in particular, looks a bit off.

The manga has been really popular and reading it has been enjoyable so it's nice to see that this getting an anime.

The character design looks nice but it looks so different from the manga, so seeing the Key Visual and PV kinda surprised me lol.

Reading the manga it's mediocre at best, with the only good part of it being the pretty nice art (which was ruined for the adaptation). If I haven't dropped the manga by the time this even airs, I might watch a couple episodes.

It being a series by the Yamada-kun author makes me mildly optimistic, but hearing that it's a harem series almost instantly puts me off. Nothing fundamentally against harems mind, but one with the premise this has sounds like it will be absolutely infuriating and completely idiotic.

I'm on Chapter 18 of the manga, and honestly...it's a bit meh. The girls are likeable and cute, but the story itself is kind of boring and overdone. Still I guess I'll give the anime a watch.

I'm still reading the manga (don't know why), but i won't watch the anime. The only good thing was the art, which was ruined by the anime. The story is mediocre even for a harem

Although not a fan of harem, I liked the author's previous works (with one labeled as harem too), so I've always been interested with this series. Seeing the comments here made my expectation low though. I will still going to keep an eye on it until it airs.

One of the most boring harem in these days , I'm not sure why they want to make it but when I think about how the anime every year getting worse, I'm not surprised at all .. meh
