THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
As part of growing up, I find it interesting how they're exploring the teen years of these characters, especially Nozomi. It's about making choices including the club to join.

Fresh off from this episode, I like the youthful look of the cast. We got introduction of the main characters and their designs looks similar to Shigatsu, given that the work is by the same author.

I think Nozomi is likable character so far given her friendly personality. There's also soccer themes in this show and I want to see how that will play as part of the main storytelling.

From the author of Your Lie in April, come another sports anime, but specifically: Girls' soccer.

The parallels between Sumire Suo and Midori Soshizaki are interesting, though entering a school that the standard of girls's soccer is below average, hope that helps in the long run with their experiences of being pro players.

Definitely a weird eccentric bunch of players to get used to, the Warabi Seinan Girls' Soccer club.

Well, it's at least devoid of the hyper-drama and unrealistic over-mature internal dialogues of the April Lies. So it is unlikely that this will become a second Lie or Hanebado ... but I am impressed by the author's desire to make it an anthology of tomboys.

All male sports anime is my strong point (for yaoi ship of course), but sometimes I watch all female sports anime too! Though I appreciate that not all characters in this are female. There are some cute guys in boy soccer team, and that male coach look DILF, despite his laid-back personality.

Started watching this and recognised art style as similar to Your Lie in April. Came here and found written by same guy,
I liked YLIA despite artstyle being my usual liking and this is similar. Will do 3 episode rule to see If i will continue watching.

The line above is False.

An amazing premise, loved everything in this episode. I was really looking forward to a new series from none other than Arakawa Naoshi, author of "Your Lie in April" and I'm glad this looks like it'll live upto my expectations.

The character designs feels so nostalgic, visuals and animation were nice. I like Suo and Midori's friendship/rivalry. They are both sweet. Onda Nozomi's an interesting character too. Setting is your usual underdog style but looks like it will be executed well enough. Also OP/ED were both pretty nice.

Girl's sports anime is really rare so hopefully this'll turn out to be really good. Looking forward to upcoming episodes.

Alright episode, liked how they introduced the characters, and looking forward to how they'll play together in this team.
Art style gave a huge nostalgia to me, ngl was thinking about Kaori under the saukra tree most of the times, but the episode was alright not much to say till now.
Nozomi seems like a good character, the animation at some points seemed weird to me, hope it'll not throw me off, but will have to see.

I loved it.

The art is obviously different but so is the manga which takes some getting used to.

They did a great job in bringing the story across. The BG music was perfect and drew out the emotions at just the right time. The ED of "Kuyashii Koto wa Kettobase" was a great way to finish off.

I am excited to watch Ep 2! Poggers!

Well, the author has a very big thing for tomboys, so in terms of writing it's almost a normal male shonen with only female characters. So if you like shipping goggles for fun, it doesn't change much lol.

Hanebado had very big ambitions because the author wanted an epic drama in a sports anime format. This show is mainly about how cool women's football is.

that's some killer dialogue right there lol

Nice try LIDENFILMS, I ain't falling for another women's sports anime after getting jebaited so hard with their last one :P
but I just gotta ask why does everyone look like a fukin fish lmao, I get that it's the same author as YLiA but you could set this series underwater and it would still be believable

anywho this simultaneously ended up being really good and really bad. I think it's nice to see a women's sports anime that isn't either trying to shove gender equality every 5 seconds nor over-sexualizing the characters yet, even though half the charas look the exact same. Animation was also good at some points but god awful at others kek. The premise is pretty run of the mill but it can still work if done right, though soccer can be pretty difficult to develop all the characters just because of the sheer number of them.

Also I don't get it, why did MC talk about dur hur teamwork when literally in the beginning of the match she didn't give af because she didn't think anyone was actually good. Well at least you can tell she's certainly a soccer 4 lyfe type of person because no one else would feel the need to always flex that they can do an around the world when juggling the ball

Hmm compared to men's soccer woman's soccer unfortunately does struggle quite a bit. Still whats more important for sports and especially team sports is not individual talent but a willingness to work with others and work well with them to improve their skills and make a better team. Pretty catchy OP though. While Su retired Midori's skills sure catapulted her into the limelight. That coach though really is the definition of a lazy. Still the match did serve to allow Suo and Nozomi to forge their first bonds which is good. Overall a decent opening ep that did well to introduce the main cast and the members of the team. Still too soon to tell how things will go though but interesting enough i guess.

The weird acrobatic stills were certainly one thing that brings into question if they watched any soccer whatsoever before trying to come up with action shots, but… yeah. Then we have the incredible teleporting girl. Who's not even an important character! I'm not sure she has even 10 seconds of screentime. But if we don't focus on her, then we need to wonder why they love drawing people behind waffle fences so much. It's a weird flex, but they're always having to blur them out because they're in the way. Why not just… not have the camera behind them? And then we get to the ED, an actually kind of pretty and rotoscoped affair. Where was all this animation and understanding of how people move and how soccer is played during the actual episode?

Anyway, leaving aside the weirdness of the visuals, this was a pretty boring and generic sports friendship show. One girl is skilled but doesn't play well with others. The other is skilled but haunted by her inability to not self-narrate every goddamned thing happening vague feelings of unfulfillment. To its credit, we spend zero time faffing over the rules of soccer or passing techniques or the like as that kabaddi show did. That they're playing soccer isn't really the focus or what matters. It's very much a drama first with some weird art stuffed in. A corny drama that drags out bagpipes for triumphantly getting the loner girl to high five, if you need a sense of how deep the angst to friendship power ratio goes. It feels… I don't know, unambitious but palatable if you're a big sports drama fan. It doesn't have the joyful chaos of something like Keijo or the production and clear exuberance for the sport of something like HaruKana either though.

The character design is so ugly that I was barely able to watch it. Animation is not helping too. Art quality is...ugh. All these robotic facial expressions looks exactly as 3DCG crap. How it's even possible? Did they rotoscope over cheap 3DCG or something?
It's sad because LIDENFILMS anime used to have great visuals (art quality, details and animation). And they did sports series in the past. Do you remember Hanebado? It looked great.
I'm not sold to these characters as well. One more episode and drop, probably.

The animation is something I need to get used to.

So we have three platers that are really good while the rest are average players. Since a star plater will couch them, things might change for the better for them. I'm looking forward to that.

Not the best first impression, honestly.

As mentioned above by many, the Animation certainly is strange and will need some getting used to at the very least.

Former star player joining a struggling team, that's stuff you'll only see in anime lol. In any case, the football aspects were so-so so here's to hoping for improvements on that end too.

Honestly, the amount of unexpectedly good anime this season is a high, I genuinely didn't expect to enjoy this as much I did.

Really liked the all female cast and I'm kinda liking how they have introduced a good bunch of characters in the first episode.

Artstyle is also really vibrant, or maybe I should say the palette.

I think there's another post on this anime asking about that, don't wanna take credit for this but it seems 'cramer' here refers to a coach who was hired by JP to put up a good fight against (Argentina?) in the 60s Olympics (?) and ended up winning the game (?) His name was D— something Cramer.. sorry just read it from the post^^.

Watching this a big football (soccer) fan and I'm a little disappointed. More about the sports realism.

Maybe some of that is the point, but no team would ever be pissed that a fast winger went solo especially when no one else pushed forward to be an open option.

The flow of that high school scrimmage was weird. I know it was 8v8 so players will be out of positions but it just seemed strange when I was watching it. Something felt off that I can't put my finger on now but probably could if I rewatched the episode.

I hope we get a full game soon, interested to see how they handle it.
Also I love a good defensive mid with play making abilities though. Easily favorite character so far

I loved it, great start. Such a straightforward story but full of potential and heart. The execution of the first episode was nice too, as long as they keep this up, I think it'll be the dark horse of the season.

It's quite a shame to see everyone complaining about the art style and the animation, it was fine to me. It's not Haikyuu levels of animation but it's still done decently enough to be very enjoyable.

It's been such a long time since we had a new football show (Captain Tsubasa remake doesn't count), I think the last one was Days?
Anyhow, I'm very excited for this. I hope they keep it up.

This played out exactly in the way of what I've come to expect from LIDENFILMS Anime, but, unfortunately, I can't say it still feels disappointing despite the low expectations for the studio. Story-wise it sounds like a run of the mill sports anime, visuals-wise it is... certainly something. I can appreciate that the designs feel less 'idealized' in a sense, but the girls behave like spoilt jelly that's been plastered on the floor by an angry chimpanzee when playing

Gotta give props to the staff that loved their designs so much that they erased the fence around the faces though, that's the level of confidence and satisfaction in one's work anyone should strive to achieve.
