This anime even has manga drawing in it.

That's kinda cool in a creative way of storytelling.

This was surprisingly heart-felt. I thought this was going to be another wacky oddity.

This ended up being one of my favorite episodes from this series. I really liked the underlying messages in this one!

This has to be the sweetest episode so far, had a smile throughout the whole episode, a nice and important social message without feeling preachy or shoe horned, the fact that most of this show ends up so bitter sweet or just sad made me appreciate an episode like this with a happy tone even more. I'm glad that Kitarou was about to put the boss in its place since he only punishes humans but Hiderigami and Sumitomi decided to be the bigger Youkai / Person.

This episode was frustrating, but it was mostly inspiring and beautiful. Hiderigami had a passion, which became a dream. He wished people would read his stories, and he tried, and tried until he found Sumitomi, someone who could accept who he was. That editor in chief was rotten to the core though. He used Nezumi-Otoko, a youkai who did something bad, as an excuse to take away from Hiderigami, another youkai who was innocent, the chance to have his work acknowledged. Because someone like him couldn't bear to see someone different, an "outsider", being the protagonist for once. We need more Sumitomis in this world. And I love how Kitarou, despite his reservations, encouraged Hiderigami to come out as a youkai by telling him that even though it doesn't happen a lot, he already witnessed humans and youkai reaching a "happy ending" together.

And I also love how the supportive letters that Hiderigami received after coming out as a youkai were mostly from children with open minds, who weren't taught to hate what's different by narrow-minded people. I also loved to see how the public, despite what happened, acknowledged Hiderigami's manga as the true winner, and how they keep buying his work now that he started a new magazine with Sugimoto. I'm sure Nurarihyon wouldn't be happy to see humans and youkai getting along so well, but this was a really beautiful and inspiring episode. Hiderigami's perseverance, and hardwork weren't in vain. And I loved to see Kitarou reading the manga, in which the protagonist was based on him.

Very interesting episode, that talks about a major subject regarding interracial relationships. It strikes all the proper chords by making it bittersweet.

It really is great that in the world of Kitaro, Yokai are getting more acceptance even if at a slow rate, but hey, they are a part of the country too, not much you can't do about that.

It is all the more interesting given Japan is an incredibly homogenous country with very little variety, a decaying population that is increasingly more reliant on foreign labor but is still tied to a VERY racist culture.

And this ain't the only episode to touch this topic. Episodes like that involving Wanyūdō and more specifically the Western Yokai Arc, deal A LOT with mistreatment and abuse towards "the others".

At the very least there people like Sugimoto, and open minded, young-readers who are not gonna buy into any racist pigshit, and that's important in a world that has unfortunately regressed into racist populism as a selling point.

I think this has more to do with it being an analogy of the difficulty of non-japanese (IE US and EU people) people trying to break into manga works. Basically this episode is basically saying "Who care who writes it as long as it's interesting."

Definitely one of the best episodes! Hiderigami is so pure and good. Even though he’s a youkai, he deserves to be acknowledged as a mangaka. I’m so glad that he found an editor and fanbase that accepts him ^^

Wonder if the manga is about Kitaro or his dad? The character design seems more like the latter.

Well, that's one of the most uplifting episodes I've ever seen. I wouldn't mind more episodes ending like that, even if the scarcity of them is what makes this anime as unique as it is.
Opinions are opinions, and differing opinions can co-exist. 🙂 But I don't do debate, life's too short to spend time debating people.
