Yeah, I liked it. It was alright.
Does anyone think that the mushrooms caused a hallucination? Everyone else seems to think that...

yeah, i thought that the mushrooms caused them to see hallucinations as well, but i don't recall seeing fuu eat any, so then how would she have seen all of the zombies and whatnot if they were indeed hallucinations?

I didn't care for this one much either. I dub it worst out of the whole series. I just saw it this morning on the Adult Swim on Demand thngy. don'y see where the whole mushroom thing comes in. Especially the little boy at the end saying "Hey look ... a mushroom!!" ... I don't get it at all!

The mushroom was a joke and pun towards the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The joke especially being in place as the characters were heading in that direction.

As far as this episode goes, it wasn't anything great. I kind of wished that they would have kept Sara alive, though. I found that out of all the side characters that she was the most intriguing. I think that having her venture with the main characters and try to find a new purpose for herself would have made a interesting plot point if done right.... But then again, I do find that her characters death was still a rather satisfying end to her arc.

I agree, it was pretty much a waste of space. It would have been better if they'd put hallunations-like stuff in, like at the end of episode 9.

Maybe this was just me, but I was pretty sure that the entire episode was an allegory for Japan's involvement in World War 2.

A crazed ruler from a long-dead, long-obsolete generation battling for hopeless ideals? His oblivious supporters, who gladly KILL THEMSELVES for him? His empty promises? A goddamn MUSHROOM CLOUD, identified as such?

Ogami Itto and Daigoro standing and watching it, shaking their heads?

It wasn't a great episode, but it had a deeper meaning than simply being a zombie parody.

The whole references to WWII and bombing of Hiroshima and turning it into a zombie story didn't really sit well together. It was OK but they've done such great job on other episodes that this one fades away easily. This is the second time I'm watching SC and I didn't remember this episode at all.

i remember having the same "what the hell is this???" feeling when watching the "mushroom" episode of Cowboy Bebop.... this two anime are sooo alike that it never ceases to amaze me.
they're still two of my favorites though ^_^

You are probably right. This felt like a nightmare episode, you know how stuff always gets easily handled in nightmares and whatnot, like everyone seams to agree and just leaves it at that.

I actually liked it...iono Im just into the whole weird thing. As a part of the whole story, obviously it wasn't anything special but the episode actually creeped me out..the whole vibe and tone of it was kinda cool and the ending was pretty funny. Wasnt the best but I enjoyed it like Ive enjoyed every other ep so far (including 23)

That seems coherent and plausible to me.

Just because Fuu was in the hallucination does not mean that she was having the hallucination. It was from Mugin & Jin's point of view.

I thought it was a pretty lame episode but I like that they managed to get undead into the show!!
Such junk...

Ah, yeah. This episode was a let down after the previous ones that were just pure awesomeness.

I know it had a deeper meaning, as I can see others have outlined it more clearly, but still. It was just an okay episode for me. Somehow it seemed sort of out of place. I dunno. Whatever, onto the last few episodes.

It was... strange. As soon we are hinted they are zombies I figured it would be hallucinations, but it's true we didn't see Fuu eating mushrooms. It's kinda disappointing watching it after the last great arc, but this was not the wors ep, there were 2 episodes I liked less, one being the recent graffiti duel one

This episode bored me and seemed like a fan-response to: What if Mugen, Jin, and Fuu were in a horror film?

Bad idea.

It was all hallucinations caused by the shrooms, I mean mushrooms. For people that say Fuu didnt eat any, Jin explains that mushrooms spread spores (through air) which probably affected Fuu as well. This was a boring episode but it did have hidden meaning which is commendable.

If you notice, the adventure they had somehow doesn't connect but will lead to the same conclusion.. to begin with finding the person who smell like a sunflower doesn't have any connection at all instead they put in series of events just to make it stay connected

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay.

That...was....erm....different!

A bit too much for late at night, and I fell asleep watching it and had to rewatch it again this afternoon. Hmmm....

Yeah, interesting an all, but a bit too wacky and supernatural for this series. Well, I know weve had a few borderline supernatural (Sara and the ki user in an earlier episode) but nothing so explicitly fantastical such as the walking dead!

Get on with it!

Because, with an exception of a few episodes, Samurai Champloo has been pretty random throughout the whole series so far.

I was expecting zombies to show up at sometime during this series. (I don't why.) However, this was too weird for me. The way they animated Shige was awesome though. He was totally creeping me out and moving ultra-realistically, yet in a trippy way. I feel that this episode has more of a disconnect from the storyline than any other episode. As if the episode didn't happen in "real life." Like one of those bonus episodes they stick at the end of a DVD set.

lol nubs, this is similar to the episode in Cowboy Bebop where spike has to deal with the phantom mold from the fridge XD

Yes, it's essentially a filler, but whatever, the makers of the show decided to have fun with their writing. Non essential episode, but just appreciate the humor, don't get all serious up in here.

very interesting episode...i guess to reset the mood of samurai champloo from the previous 2 eps since they were pretty serious?

it seems like it happens a lot...filler-like eps following very serious amazing eps
