Is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood not a sequel to Fullmetal Alchemist? I mean I'm pretty sure it's a remake but I just want to confirm this. I know I should already know this by now but I just never really got into it till now. Also if this is the case which one follows the manga more?

I watched Brotherhood second because I like to eat my veggies first. That one also follows the manga more I think.

FMA 2003 and FMA:B are two separate yet equally entreating shows that happen to have the same starting point. You can watch one without watching the other, or watch both.

You can safely think that FMA and FMAB are two different anime with same characters, so you can watch just either one of them or both.

Nah, there's still the live action original: Full Metal Jacket.

Couldn't you have just Googled this instead of making a thread for it? ー_ー

If you want an answer, then - watch it on your PC using your eyes.

First Full Metal Jacket, then FMA, then Full Metal Panic and then the live action FMA movie.

Because it's more fun to go about the social way. Also, you get more straightforward answers asking this way.

Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood have the same initial premise but go in entirely different routes later on. This is because when the former aired the manga was still publishing and it caught up on that. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood started airing when the manga was ending so they could actually adapt it in its entirity.

Just go brotherhood. The original fma is different from the manga but it was decent.

Watch Full Metal Alchemist first. I didn't and I felt kinda lost at first, with Brotherhood.

I also didn't like Brotherhood's ending. At all. So it may be a good idea to experience both endings and see which one you like best.

1. You find a stream, a torrent or a physical copy of Fullmetal Alchemist
2. Turn it on in your local Bluray or media player and hit the play buttom

There you go, you're now watching Fullmetal Alchemist. I hope that helped

As far as I know FMA:B is not the sequel of FMA, it's a remake of FMA anime adaptation. Also, you watch FMA:B/FMA while your eyes are open. Who would watch a series with their eyes closed?

Pick whatever one you want since it doesn't matter at all and then start from episode 1 and continue from there. You're free to do whatever you want after that, like maybe you can be a little rambunctious and watch episode 1 and go straight to episode 7!

Okay so apparently they both begin the same way but start to differ later on. I often heard advices that you should watch the older version first cause in FMA:B they rush through the first few episodes as though they assumed that you've seen the older version already so there's no need to show the early events in details. I don't agree personally, even though FMA:B does skip some details it's still good enough on it's own. I tried to watch the 2003 version first, but I ended up dropping it because the beginning was so dragged I simply found it boring. So, my opinion is that you should watch FMA:B first cause it lets you immerse yourself in action much quicker, and then after that maybe watch the old version if you feel like it, but keep in mind that as people already said, it's not really a canon material.

If you have the time, watch both versions. It's what I did. IMO both are great. But Brotherhood follows the manga entirely, while the 2003 version follows the manga until half the anime.
And if you watch the first version, you have to watch the movie: Conqueror of Shamballa. It's the end of the 2003 version. There are some OVAs, but watch them if you want. (In my opinion, you should watch the third one: Kids (Kodomo-hen), but after you finish the anime and the movie. It's really short, 3 minutes I think)
If you watch Brotherhood, you only have to watch the anime. There is one movie and a couple of OVAS, but they are not necesary (The ovas adapt some extra chapters of the manga)
That's it! Sorry for my bad english.

ANYONE WHO SAYS WATCH BROTHERHOOD FIRST IS WRONG

THE ONLY PATH IS 2003 -> CONQUEROR OF SHAMBALLA -> BROTHERHOOD

THE END

THERE IS NO OTHER PATH EXCEPT THE WRONG PATH.
every single one of my forum posts is dumb and invalid except for 1, I don't claim them it was a different person it was all fake

if you just want to watch 1 show then go watch the Brotherhood one since it follows the manga faithfully from start to finish

Watch the original (2003) FMA first, then the movie conclusion (“Conquerer of Shambala” I believe?)!! After that then watch FMA Brotherhood! FMA:B follows the manga while the 2003 version is entirely different (besides some characters, although some have different personalities like Lust for example)

You have to watch FMA (2003) before because if youu watch Brotherhood first, the ending of FMA (2003) will probably seem odd or weird, which will probably make you underappreciate the whole series.

Watching it in any other way would do yourself a disservice

There's this manga called Fullmetal Alchemist.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood adapts the whole thing. Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) does not, it does it's own thing about halfway through. The manga and relation Brotherhood has the better story in my opinion but I liked the original series too.

Brotherhood is a remake... The first one doesn't follow the manga and takes original lead... Brotherhood is a perfect remake that follows the manga exactly... Only watch Brotherhood... The other one is shit ... Or more like the later episodes are shit

i don't want to be mean, but Fullmetal Alchemist's order to watch is among the easier one to choose from
Basically Brotherhood follow the manga very closely, while the original had it own ending, lot of people consider the original to be bad because of that. But some people say that the original has better flow and Brotherhood is a bit rush. i'd say Brotherhood, but it's just opinion base really
