A few series share the honour. I grew up on Dragonball, Yu Gi Oh and Robotech as well as the manga of Detective Conan and Ironfist Chinimi. That being said, my appreciation for anime as a medium was sparked by an episode of the Black Jack OVA that I stumbled across while channel surfing when I was just 11.

After much pestering of my sister and friends, I finally started to pick up on some shows that I found were interesting and recommended.

I watched these at about the same time: Attack on Titan, Death Note, Death Parade, and Kuroko no Basket. I'd say Death Note was the one that really brought me in.

I was hooked afterwards.

A simple feeling that I can't seem to shake
Oh my love, you drive me crazy in the loveliest way
I stay up, all night just thinking bout' the things that you say
I call your phone and hope to hear your voice and all over again

I am in love...
Make me fall in love why don't you
Just make me fall in love again
I can't deny it I'm in love

When I was a kid I watched a lot of Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Saint Seya and Yu Gi Oh, but what brought me to anime in general was Naruto. Here in Brazil the anime wasn't complete so I searched for it on the internet and started reading it's manga. I am happy that it was Naruto, I still like it.

Pokemon, YuGiOh, and Dragonball Z kind of played on the TV in the background when I'd hang at my childhood friend's house at a really, really young age, but I didn't start streaming episode after episode of a show on my own time until Shugo Chara.

I started anime quite by animax on TV, so my first one was an Inuyasha movie, the swords of an honorable ruler.

I was quite young then probably 8 at that time - seemed like the best thing ever really.

I'd seen Dragon ball earlier but Inuyasha is really what got me into anime.

Simple, it's Naruto!
I had been watching Pokémon, Dragon Ball and Doraemon beforehand from my childhood days but really at that moment anime was just mere cartoons for me. Until of course I stumbled across Naruto and then never really looked back on animes. Currently, I'm somewhat a shut-in who aspires to spend as much time possible watching animes.

I stumbled into the anime world on accident hahaha.

I was sick in 4th grade and my mom made my sister and I rent books from the library every week. I asked my sister for a captain underpants book or something similar. She came back that evening with a manga... called Fruits Basket. It was a random volume and I had no idea what was going on in the story so... I looked it up and turns out there was a show. At that moment... I walked into the world and anime and have not returned.

I would have to say it was a group of different ones. I believe the first anime I ever watched was Inuyasha when I was a kid ( around 10) and would watch it on tv. I also had watched a little bit of Pokemon. Then when I was 18 I watched the Avatar series. When I watched those I actually had no clue it was anime. I started to watch Inuyasha again when I was around 20 as I wanted to watch it from beginning to end and after that I got into Death note then Bleach and Naruto along with Fairy tail, Blue exorcist, The Seven deadly sins and so on. I have so many more that I'm planning to watch to.

I used to watch pokemon, digimon, bakugan, deltora quest, beyblade and mirumo de pon when they aired on TV when I was about 3-4 maybe? I didn't like dbz though.
When I heard about sailor moon crystal, since its trailer was on the centre page of youtube. I loved it however I didn't watch the anime. I looked for something similar until I found a fanart of madoka magica. I liked magical girls so I decided to watch it. And loved it.

It depends. I first started watching Bleach with my older brother back in the day. But back then I'd only watch anime with my older brother, and very sparingly. Technically that was what first unstigmatized anime for me. After seeing SAO with him, I started watching some anime independently, but only a few shows. By then I was pretty much the average casual viewer. When I really started getting into anime though was when I started watching Erased. Even though the show (the ending especially) wasn't great, it still had me by the reins for a long time. It made me realize the potential of great anime, something previous shows I'd watched failed to do. From there I became a serious fan of anime.

It was Attack on Titan. Spend the entire night from midnight to the morning to watch the whole season 1. It did a good job of disproving what I initially thought anime was, since I thought the only shows that anime had to offer were more slice of life shows that I wasn't pulled in by.

I watched a few series when I was little (Doraemon, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball,...) but I never thought much about it.

Naruto was the first show I actually followed with genuine interest, but it didn't make me want to look for more of the same genre afterwards.

The first anime that actually took me into the anime world was Vampire Knight, and Elfen Lied sealed the deal soon after that.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn brought me to anime. I got addicted to it and thought the characters was so badass, like when weak Tsuna transform into his badass self with flames on his head and his serious orange eyes; and Kyouya too, he's like the epitome of badass. But when I started watching more better action anime like the first (1999) Hunter x Hunter, I started to think that KHR wasn't even that good after all. After that I discovered more shit on Youtube; yes Youtube. That was my first site for streaming (mirrored) anime.

I did watch anime when I was a kid but I didn't think mich of it. When I discovered Lucky Star back in 2011, I wanted to watch the anime referenced in the show, starting with Haruhi Suzumiya then after that Lucky Star, after that Code Geass. Next thing I knew I was really into anime way more than my child self.
When it comes to how I got into watching anime I consider Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya, and Code Geass to be my Big Three. Of the three, it was all thanks to Lucky Star anyway for introducing me to anime culture.

Used to watch the dubbed versions of Doraemon, Shin-chan and Pokémon when I was young, but I didn't recognize them as shows made by Japan. The first time I watched an anime which I recognized as anime, it was Detective Conan. Probably got through the first hundred episodes and gave up because it was so long. Death Note got me hooked to anime, and from there, I watched Shingeki No Kyojin, Cardcaptor Sakura, et cetera...
