Their true identity and reputation aren't at risk when making ridiculous and stupid remarks or asking the most absurd questions. Now, if they were posting questions on a school board or participating in online school they would re-evaluate the questions or statements they are about to post before doing so, knowing they'll look like a moron and risk their reputation. Not that your reputation on some rinky-dink online school matters, but it's just a scenario.

I don't care what Oxford says. I still feel like the word "stupider" makes your IQ appear to plummet 76 points.

I think psychologically, humans tend to act differently when they are anonymous. Studies have shown that 40% of males act differently while 60% of women act the same. Personally I act around about the same as I do irl, but this MAL after all. Sasuga desu kawaii ne~

I was about to say...
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

maybe its because you cant really troll that way as easily in real life since they will see you laughing, but when its not to do with trolling, its easier to say your thoughts and opinions online even when you arent sure if they sound a bit silly. so that's another reason why.

SXDXDXDX TRALLING FAN OGGGGNXXXXXXXXXXX 1fucking13 year old weeabo is 10 years too late

trolling is dumb and not "fun" in any way

also, because people are lame as fuck obviously thats the answer to everything

when i was younger i was the same but as i grew up if someone irl is talking shit that makes no sense i just go guns blazing at them , regardless of where and who. I had an encounter with some big shot college principal recently and she was like so pathetic and lowly i called her out on all her bs and said shes unfair and lame and she was sitting there with her mouth and eyes like O_O and later called me to 'apologize' for her behavior and tell me that she likes how i told her all my thoughts

i wish i had balls to apply for a job and get a gf and fix my life

^_^

too bad i can only deal with "imminent" threat

It goes both ways. Anonymity plays a major role in the way users express themselves online, so people might act a lot differently than they would IRL. Some people like to troll and shitpost on the internet which makes them look like a fool, but in real life they might not be as bad. On the other side of the spectrum, there's users who generally appear a lot smarter online than they do IRL.

I don't know, because they can? As long as they're not obnoxious about it, being stupid isn't really a problem.

I never thought I'd say that I'm actually glad that incisorr appears to be back. It was getting dull without his amusingly absurd comments.

Anywho, as to why people are more stupid in real life, I think it's a mix of these things:

And, it may be controversial, but I think some people on the internet are just generally dumb and not actually trolling. There's a good chance that these people failed school or were just too stupid to get any kind of job or qualifications needed for one. So instead they spend their days on the internet posting stupid crap on forums.
Those kinds of people are likely in the minority though.

You two are the only ones on MAL who keep their wits about when posting.

Stop askign such trivial questions. It is part of human nature to act out of his personality some times, even in real life, let alone in the internet where no one knows about you

Their anonymity means nothing is at stake (or so they think) and they can freely discuss what they think is right online without fear of being judged.

Still, it's not like your reputation online matters..... I mean you can obviously fight each other through Facebook without being anonymous....
