| I thought that Laboon would save them, but Merry? A wrecked ship? Really? Oda expects me to believe that? I'm sorry if I seem heartless, but the lack of deaths in this anime is killing me, literally. Even the fucking minor characters don't die. Like 3 very, very, VERY minor characters died in these 310 episodes (not counting Gold Roger, since he died before that). |

| i love how it wasn't like luffy defeated the big bad guy and then they automatically won. i was wincing as he laid there and everybody screamed his name - something the anime probably thought was inspirational but just made me feel sorry for him, because he broke his body and dude can't move no matter how much you yell usopp. |

| Oh my god, I cried. Why do people still focus on the "why"? Are you watching One Piece and actually believing that the series gives "clear" and "realistic" answers to everything? This episode perfectly fits one of the main motifs of the arc, which is that the Going Merry has a spirit and that it cares for its crew. Doubting about this is the same nonsense as doubting about the ship being repaired in just one night. When will you learn that laws of physics don't apply to One Piece? |
| I've been rewatching this scene several times since then: It is probably my favorite scene or very close. I was very surprised at the time at how they handled it. How could anybody watch this and still care whether if it was absurd or not that it was the Going Merry? Oh, come on... I think I have never felt as much attached to the Straw Hats as in their "jump in the ocean" moment. They made it incredibly epic and touching. I also loved the confusion they caused in the marines, it sort of gave me chills, how to the rest of the world they are just a bunch of crazy kids who act without any sense of logic. It's as if they lived in their own bubble, nobody in that world understands them but they are just happy in their weirdness. Really, really powerful scene. And as one could say, it came from nowhere. This is what amazes me the most. Other emotional moments have their hype episodes or scenes around it, but this was just randomly inserted in the battle, yet it worked perfectly. And Merry's voice. Just by hearing it I was in tears. |

| So . . . people would call BS on Merry saving them, something that was built up (with the whole klabautermann thing), had seeds planted for it (I distinctly remember seeing Kaku release it during the Aqua Laguna, and we never saw it get destroyed there so . . .), and just a much stronger emotional connection to the crew/viewers plus tied into the overall theme of the past two arcs but would be totally fine if it was Laboon? Someone who doesn't fit at all in this arc, would've just been a Deus Ex Machina (as their was nothing established within here) and wouldn't of made sense at all since if I remember correctly he is supposed to be at Reverse Mountain (waiting to duel with Luffy again) and also has no supernatural ability to tell when Luffy needs him nor speed to reach there that quickly. For the record, I thought it was really obvious that it'd be the Going Merry, for the reasons stated above. Oh, and I'm just ranting on people calling the Merry saving them BS, because it's definitely not. It's not, it's well-written and awesome. |

Ever since Pell survived carrying the bomb into the sky, I should have accepted that this show doesn't kill named characters unless it's in a flashback but it doesn't make it any less annoying when we're constantly seeing these fake-out death scenes, only to have everyone somehow survive. Still wasn't as bad as Skypiea though. |

Then after that, Franky destroys it some more and sends it out into an outrageously powerful storm and shit. And we're supposed to believe that the ship sailed through all that to make it to them?
