The main plot focuses on the testing for the Shiranui. Which you know as the units the Valkyries pilot in Alternative. Other than that small bit, it's completely underwhelming if you go in expecting it to be anywhere near Alternative's level.
The production level is moderate at best, and the actual plot and characters may not even reach that. There are even inconsistencies in established canon, like how the laser-class BETA work, among other things. I'd have to spoil it in order to go into detail on all of the issues it has.
It's worth watching if you really like Muv-Luv. Just keep your expectations low in the hope that it surprises you.
then we get to the retarded board game eps...at least iirc they were boring as shit in the manga. This is also where the manga's quality takes a steep dive to shitdom.
