Honestly is Love Live worth watching? the sales on that is ridiculous... I've watched plenty of Shoujo anime and dance anime but never got a chance to try it. Nice sales though, all the good anime are selling consistently. |

I've dropped Ao Haru Ride but I'm glad the opening is selling relatively well. It's an unbelievably catchy song I'd recommend to anyone looking for something to brighten their mood. Kalafina's latest song may not be their best but it's still cool that the single is finding fans willing to buy it. The two best of albums are rocking the charts anyway, so no complaints on that front. Hoping for a second week for JoJo on Thursday. |

I've been wondering what these sales numbers represent. Is it taken from online sales (if so, how many sites)? Store sales? Combined? |

Judging by the second ranking show, it seems like Moe-otaku and fujoshi are the main demography that bought shit. Glad to see Sidonia no Kishi isn't doing bad! I hope the second season would get hand-drawn animation like Kingdom did. |

Fan art is still pretty much constant, the music is still selling, the Blu-Ray discs are still charting (that first disc for season 2 has remained in the top 40 for preorder rankings on Amazon.jp for almost two months now), fans in Asia literally prostrate themselves before images of the idols, it makes the mainstream news in Japan on discussions of hot twitter tags and even gets mentioned a lot on mainstream variety programs. Also it's not just hype trust me. The passion from the fanbase is pretty real, very intense and more than a little scary. You should see what happens any time one of the fictional idols has a "birthday". |

Nice sales though, all the good anime are selling consistently. Honestly probably not. The thing is Love Live just completely lacks appeal over here in the west because Idol Culture just isn't relevant. If you are a fan of Japanese idol bands like AKB48 then go ahead, you'll probably love it, but if you're not a fan of that culture then I highly doubt you'll see Love Live as anything other than a regular Slice of Life Comedy with music elements. It's a show about idol culture that will be loved by people who are interested by Idol Culturer |

Didn't "Castle of Cagliostro" have a Blu-ray already? Why do another remaster that doesn't significantly improve things? On a somewhat related note, the new DVD masters for Totoro, Kiki and Laputa are fine, those older titles probably need an improved mastering, but I wonder if they'll do it for newer titles as well, such as Ponyo. That would be pointless. |

Nice sales though, all the good anime are selling consistently. Love Live is not a "Shoujo" anime, but it's essentially a better K-On just that people hate on it cause of Idols, without having watch it. It's not a perfect anime and has moments of cringeworthy writing, but as a whole it's a fun watch. So you should at least watch the first 3 episodes of season 1 to see what it's like, it's understandable if you don't like it but only someone soulless would hate the series after watching it. |

At about 50K though it'd still doing better than the vast majority of TV anime. Especially lately so it's not that its popularity is dying down but regressing to the mean. |

It's thanks to the phone game Love Live school idol festival that has been translated in four different languages including English. Japanese are really amazed at how popular Love Live is in neighboring countries. Here is a video in Japanese TV about Love Live's phenomenon in Shanghai. |

Love Live is one of those things that just doesn't seem to fade away like the rest in terms of popularity. Actually you are right, Its not a hype. I've read about that phenomenon in a couple blogs and was shocked, but I've seen numerous other anime being popular among the Chinese speaking community, Date A Live is quite popular in Taiwan and South Korea. |

Some anime can catch fire in certain countries. Besides Date A Live, Railgun and SAO are well liked in mainland China. South Korea likes Accel World while the Philippines is fond of OreImo. However, Love Live is a little bit different since it ran on both waves, idol and anime. Idol culture in this region is influenced mostly by Korean bands. Japan used to have a strong presence with AKB but that has faded for a while because the Koreans give a stronger impression with their "sexy-cool" idols instead of "cute" ones. Nevertheless, the fondness of "cute" idols are always there and µ as a RL idol band portrays it excellently. µ is a professional group with high quality performers like Nanjo, Mimorin, Pile and Emi. That's why a ticket to the Live concert is valued so highly, leading to a phenomenal Vol1 sale. |

I think that's why I'm not too keen on K-Pop at all, while I do like the choreography better than J-Pop (well it is far better than J-Pop), the sexy-cool image doesn't sit too well with me. I wouldn't mind some Choreography instructors who work with K-pop idols to go to Japan and teach the J-pop idols some great moves. |

Sure Japan loves Love Live, posters/ads and BD were everywhere in Akihabara You need to set your comparative standard a bit differently here cause you're talking about the best selling TV anime Blu-Ray volume to date and something of an anomaly with volume 1 that was never going to be equalled by volume 2. At about 50K though it'd still doing better than the vast majority of TV anime. Especially lately so it's not that its popularity is dying down but regressing to the mean. You also have to factor in the movie coming out in 2015, that hype will go back up again, heaven forbid Muse doesn't graduate at the end of the movie and a 3rd season gets announced. I think the hype is still around because of the smartphone game that has also been translated into different languages including English. Also, the PS Vita game will also be released in a few weeks with preorders getting a limited editions nendoroids. And if the reception of that game will be good, it may also get translated to English as well. I think those two games will keep the Love Live! hype around until the movie comes out next year. |

The hype in Japan is more relevant for the franchise, but I will include a timeline of just the mobage (abbreviation is Sukufesu in Japanese), which is only one of many different multimedia formats for the franchise. 2013/04/15: Released on iOS 2013/06/06: Released on Android 2013/06/26: Player base reaches 500,000 players 2013/09/21: Player base reaches 1,000,000 players 2014/02/24: Player base reaches 2,000,000 players 2014/05/23: Player base reaches 3,000,000 players 2014/08/08: Player base reaches 4,000,000 players Ever since the mobage reached 2 million players, the game has been growing at a phenomenal pace of ~1 million players every 2.5 to 3 months. Players spend a lot of money on the mobage, and has single handedly brought Klab Games from the red to the black. Then the release of the localised version of Sukufesu in English, Chinese, and most recently in Korean, since they also want to tap into the overseas markets as well. There are also players in the English and Chinese games that spend a lot of money on the localised games as well, which made localisation a very good decision. The English and Chinese games have already reached 250K+ players in a month or two. The hype is still here, which is supported by high interest in 2.5D idols, the many CD releases (the Best Live! collection has charted for 83 weeks in a row from when it was released last year), the growth in the anime fanbase (as evident in the sales of Vol.2 S2 compared to S1, the increase in CD sales, etc). Then we have the School Idol Diary light novels, nendoroids, merchandise at the upcoming Comiket. I can go on and on about Love Live!, which grew from a fan-based voting project back in 2010, to a monster of a franchise in 2014. The upcoming release of the 3 PS Vita games (abbreviated as Sukupara in Japanese) will be a nice indicator of the strength of the Love Live! franchise. |

DAMN, Now I am looking forward to what they can pull with season 2. |

What was K's average BD sales? For the volumes not the BD box. I can't wait to see the movie I couldn't go to any of the screenings since the closest one was a 3 hour drive. Going to start stalking sites once its released. |
