| So whether or not i enjoyed studio ghibli's movies doesn't take away any of the impact they have had on animation as an art form. We could argue all day on what movies we do or dont like but i feel its sad to see a studio go that has such strong impact on anime. We will see in time if this closure of the animation studio is true but i wouldn't count them out forever. Pretty sure Hayao Miyazaki will come back for something |

| Well that's a shame. The studio may not be everything it used to be, but its highs are still fantastic. If it weren't for Spirited Away, I probably wouldn't be posting here right now. I hope the animators find use for their talents in other studios. |

But wasn't he right though in some regards? The point he referred to was mainly the effects it had that the industry nowadays is mainly staffed und run by the same otaku it panders to. And he made a connection that this had a detrimental effect on how characters in anime nowadays are written. That characters most often don't feel like real people anymore. And even if I can't judge on it in regards to any causal link - despite that it at least seems plausible that you first have to know and experience people to write convincing characters - I have to agree that the characters of newer shows most of the time seem to be first and foremost conceptualized based on singular stereotypical characteristics and roles rather than fitting into and being shaped by the events of the story. It is kind unreal to see characters you can summarize in single words because they are solely defined by their archetype and there isn't anything more to them because their behavior always falls back unto their archetype. |

But hey, anything to prove me wrong amirite? Glad to see you two are in my fan club though, it makes me feel pretty secure. As we all know, the studio making a show determines if it is good or not. Forget the fact that Sidonia has source material that is seen as decent to good by most people on the site. Everything Polygon does CGI for will be good, because Studio means everything. Thats EXACTLY why Photo Kano is just as good as Death Note, and Kyoukai no Kanata is just as good as Fullmetal Panic and Haruhi. I applaud you sir. |
