Poor Kouji - what a big Ah Shit!

So when is the next "Hen" coming?

Of course, one does have to wonder just what they will do in a sequel to exceed the immense quantities of GAR in this series.

GOOD END ACHIEVED! FUCK YEAR!

Using the shitty pop song during the Rain of Rocket Punches kind of pissed me off, but this was still a damn good episode. Although I kind of wish they hadn't hinted so hard at the BAD END and just let it come to light after Kouji's glorious victory which would've been even more of a slap in the face. Also, anyone who has seen Giant Robo knows that you had best not count your chickens before they hatch when it comes to a Great-Hen because there's no guarantee that it will happen.

Incredibly epic ending, and incredibly awesome cliffhanger. Not unexpected but still impressive.

I believe that with the success of this Mazinger, we will have a second season one day, still, I'm also pretty sure that the new Grendizer will be released before Great Mazinger Hen, and unfortunately, it won't be too soon. Maybe 2011...

I remember you dissed Imagawa for the lorelei arc. Well, actually, it came straight out of the manga, so it's really a Go Nagai thing.

Well, that's another point against Nagai then. I'm noticing that I'm liking him less as old manga is getting translated and liking Ishikawa a lot more.

Absolutely fastastic.

I love how Ashura became such an interesting character. Going from Generic Villain #759 to culminating in creating one of the best WHOOPS moments I've ever seen? Just great.

Excellent. Was expecting a cliffhanger ending but still was good for me XD

There probably won't be a season 2, but most likely an OVA/Movie to tie it off. RAWR GREAT MAZINGER!!!

Fantastic =) - was indeed already expecting a cliffhanger ending, doubting that they'd end off both Ashura, Dr. Hell and Daishogun in just a few episodes, after spending so much time on build up... - but still not like this. Very nice. Even more motivation to cosplay Ashura.

..wondering where things will go from here, but only time will tell i guess. A Great Mazinger series, followed by a new Mazinkaiser OVA? Or directly to an OVA to round everything up? Time will tell I guess, but hopefully time will tell quickly.. ;D

fantastic show, even when the animation stle looked a bit strange for me.

Ashura was the best character of this show

I didn't expected the cliffhanger but it was well done
So I have no real reason to complain about .

Baron Ashura made out pretty interestingly in the finale.

Also, the rain of rocket punches was very kickass.

that was an epic end (^o^)b
but there should be a following OVA or movie, specially that the 1st & 2nd episodes have several scenes for the fight between Mazinger Z & the emperor of darkness.

And Great-hen never happened. Why even live

I did like Imagawa's take on the whole thing. The whole twist with Dr. Hell actually being "good" was a surprise.

Lmao, they actually left this show on a cliffhanger? I liked the rest of the episode but jesus that was dumb and no way in hell there will be a sequel of some sort since this is from 2009 and now I'm commenting in 2016...

I’m going to be honest here I didn’t like this incarnation of Mazinger Z to me it lacked Sayaka x Kabuto moments as well as Boss vs Kabuto shenanigans. I know Tsubasa was an important character but they focus to much on her and her warriors leaving little or no screen time for the Mazinger army pilots, Gennosuke, Sayaka and Boss. The cliffhanger was another thing that bother me (I like closure in my stories) the only thing that I like was the action, art and Baron Ashura backstory but that wasn’t enough to make me give this a higher score. I preferred Mazinkaizer over this one, just my two cents…

On a side note about Baron Ashura...

What shocks me is that nobody saw it coming. Baron Ashura got far more screen time than everyone except Koji and Tsubasa. You may not know exactly what he/she/it/they/vosotros will do to turn the show on its head, but you know it’s going to happen and both OP spoiled, gave hints about their fate.

As much as this finale was exciting, the outcome made it look like nothing more than a mid-series episode cliffhanger.

3.5-/5 Wow, Kenzo lost most of his body in this one

Exciting and fun at times, for a simple series of turnabouts, a few very good ideas (notably the full reimagining of Ashura), nice throwbacks at the original manga and references to Great Mazinger.
But:
- this wasn't the new/true Mazinger, this was "Baron Ashura & Nishikiori Tsubasa the show" (to a fanatic point),
- it became some kind of soap-opera,
- Too many flashbacks,
- No place for the (old) heroes,
- Poor drawings, mediocre animation (despite the name's aura),
- 26eps, with half one being a summary and the first one being a preview videoclip, and yet they were able to end the series with no resolution?!

Score: 6.5/10

@Roy_Focker You were rather generous if the o lything you liked was the action.

@abystoma2 Noted, thanks !

Well it is Mazinger one of my favorite Robot of all time and the action did him good but the story was not my liking (cliffhanger) except the Baron Ashura explanation so that is why I didn’t score the series higher but I'm ok giving the score that I did...

This was a truly badass show and an excellent entry point for someone unfamiliar with MZ like me. However, leaving it on a cliffhanger like that and not continuing it was really dumb and it only results in more people ignoring shows like these.

I'm glad I already watched Infinity and Mazinkaiser. Now I'll go to Shin Zero's manga. I it had a proper conclusion it'd have been an easy 10/10, but the ending lowers it to an 8/10.

It can't end like this!

Makes me wonder if the show was originally planned to have a sequel that was axed due to disappointing ratings.

Overall a very good 21st century retelling of Mazinger (although I still prefer the Mazinkaiser OVA overall), just a let down that it doesn't have a proper ending.

This was totally the Baron Ashura show btw. The character has never been quite this epic before. Well done.

It has a continuation actually - simply rewatch the first two episodes after the finale and the conclusion should reveal itself to you.

Same reply as above, the first episode isn't a preview, it's a direct continuation of episode 26.
You all need to watch Nami.

@CheungCrygor8818 the best part? Neither are actual cliffhangers. Most of Giant Robo's plot threads are resolved by the end, and while The Impact leaves some things unresolved (like Blade), the whole thing ends more or less with Koji defeated and humanity going extinct (unless they did plan on making a sequel).
