I would've added it to my favorites had i watched it before creating this account. Cuz it has now become one of my top 20 favorites anime of all time.
For a long time I've know the series since I was like 8 or 9. It was one of two Shotaro Ishinomori series I knew that existed when i was a kid (other being Power Rangers). It probably thanks to me watching Devilman vs. Cryborg 009 anime (also my first ever Devilman anime I actually watched) and cyborg 009 call of justice on netfilx. Plus the internet was how i learn of its existition. However the one version that always intersted me was the 2001 version.
It likely because of it's artstlye, that drew me in. Since i do love seeing anime characters drawn in goofy/cartoony that you see a lot in 50s-70s manga and anime. It was also want made me watch Ishinomori other anime, Kikaider the animation (also a personal favorite).
Flash-forward to April of 2025, where i had recently finished one of best Ishinomori anime I've ever watch, The Skull Man (more on that later). And that series motivated me to finally watching the 2001 anime..... before i watched like 2 eps and i got lazy, so i placed on hold. Till last week, i picked up it again, cuz i had noting else to do and after watching it. It was truly something worth watching.
There's a lot for me to talk about. But basically it's a really good show to check out. Since one of best thing about this anime is it's animation, some eps may be a bit lacking (can't blame them for working on 50 ep show with a timely schedule), however most of it is fucking amazing! Like really good animation! So good in fact that it got my eyes glued on the screen! I'll share stuff here:
The other being it's story. The first 17 eps is basically one big story arc and after that ends, the rest of show becomes episodic, with mini arcs showing up here and there. However that is not a bad thing, sometime those episodic ep explore about one of the main characters struggle. For example in one ep it explores Joe Shimamura (also known as 009). You see 009 has an ability called acceleration making him move near the speed of light. however in that ep due to some maintenance error, caused his acceleration to go beyond to the point that everyone but Joe is frozen. Basically time stop, however physics still work in this state, meaning if he were touch someone the friction would instantly burn them.
This also means he can't save people during an accident without the risk of burning them. Worse he was stuck like for a entire month. Things got back to normal at the end of episode, but it's something that left a mark on Joe. Plus the rest of the ep didn't had music nor sounds except for Joe's voice and thought.
Making it one of the queistst ep of the entire anime.
Besides that there is theme about humanity dark nature and our violence obsession's with war. The series has a anti-war message and looks for forward to a more hopeful future where mankind could come together one day. Don't let the art style fool you, the anime does get dark at times. There isn't any blood or anything, but sometimes side characters do meet their tragic end and it does showcase stuff like slavery.
It ain't all dark and gloomy as there more fun or goofier eps, so it ease up some tension. I could go on and on, but i really do love this anime and I now want to watch more 009 anime. So trust me when i say that it's definitely worth you're time!
Now a bit about Skull Man (2007). It was adapted from a 70s manga which would later serve as the prototype for Kamen Rider. The 2007 anime is a big homage to Ishinomori works, with a ton of refences. However the one thing that stood out was the fact that some characters from 009 appear in Skull Man. Even more suripsring when some of the cyborgs towards the end of anime are voiced by JP actors who previously voiced the main characters in 009. it was funny how i didn't know i was watching a Ishinomori anime till i saw the ending and i was like "This is a prequel to Cyborg 009!?" (side note Skull Man isn't canon to any 009 sreies due to it contracting some establish lore).
Skull Man is a great anime to check out and to sum up what the anime is about. Imagine if it was a batman anime where the main character is a journalistic trying to find out Batman secrets identity (Skull Man in this case), while getting involved some government conspiracy and some cult group shenanigans and also that if Batman doesn't follow the no kill rule. That's Skull Man for you.
This is the international version, they couldn't use the original OP due to copyright, But i think this OP fits way better.
Genma Wars (2002):
This is also a Ishinomori anime and this is one of the worst TV anime I have ever watch. Like imainge every single bad thing you expect in an anime, cuz Genma wars has all of those. I only watch it with my brother to point and laugh at it. Besides watching 009 after seeing Genma was a breath of fucking fresh. Cuz i got to see actucal good animation and story, instead of watching an random 70s anime that was somehow transported to the 2000s where the writers were on drugs making this pile of shit. Also its where that one cilp (the one with the pregnant lady) is from
Yelp it's that time of season, and today MechaFanBoy1979 once again decide to show something random! This time with a twist! A mashup!
Ahem, yeah it's basically what i'm going to show you, one's a OST and the other is clip. kinda like amv just without me editing it. It's something i do when ever i'm bored and i only really show it to my brother. So you're one of the first people to see my little hobby.
Simple instruction: Make sure to turn off the volume of the video (for obvious reasons), start at 7:25 of the video and play the music. Don't forget to stop the video after music ends. Then again it might be better if you use tabs instead of doing it in a MAL comment.
Follow these simple instruction and sit back, wear headphones, and enjoy the show.
So tell me, did the OST fit the scene? And why exactly?
Yeah I'm enjoying it so far. I only decided to watch (at school) cuz I wasn't in mood of watching whatever series I'm currently in, so I wanted watch something a bit fresh.
A Unfortunate habit of mine, since I always start watching more than one anime on my list, which takes longer to finished up the remaining series i currently have.
But then again, when you're watching mid garbage crap like Future Diary, it's definitely required to watch a good show in order to clean our taste from anything that isn't garbage.
Aside from that, I really do like it, since it reminds me a lot of action movies I used to watch back then as a kid (well I was way more into of movies prior of becoming the massive weeb I am now). But I do have admire how just how amazing the animation is, especially for a TV 90s anime.
Then again, a lot of Sunrise TV produce anime in the late 90s had like high quality OVA like animation than whatever else was airing around that time, is wouldn't be much of a surprise that Cowboy Bebop to have a similar quality. But damn the fight scene's look great!
Now I can finally see why it was so popular back then. 😌
Yep, yep. It was classic sonic, however it wasn't the game classic sonic nor did it happen in the spawn comic
But rather in the Archie Sonic Comic's!
This little crossover happened in the 90s between Archie Sonic and Image comics (the company that created spawn and the invincible comics), albeit the image above is the only time sonic meets spawn in the whole crossover. Altho it wasn't the first time a spawn appeared in the archie comics tho...
The Archie comic's were pretty weird, but then again Spawn is no different, hell god is a literal dog in the Spawn universe!
Still, i like to image this was canon, simply cuz it's more funnier to imagine an dark edgy anti hero meeting a blue cartoon hedgehog, lol!
I always was sort familiar with Spawn when i was a kid thanks to that 90s live action movie (which was complete ass, lol). But after the YouTube Algorithm recommend me that first clip, i wanted to know more about the show and well here I'm hahaha.
Oh and BTW, remember i recommend Tsukihime awhile back. I didn't really tell you much about, aside from it being done by the same creators as Fate. That was cuz i wasn't really in good mood at time. However I'm doing much better then how i was in December and i'm in a good pretty mood right now, so I'll tell you about the premise and stuff like that in order to make you a little more interested of reading it. After i'm a pretty big fan of series and i hope it may intrigued even a little bit, kay buddy? :)
Well that's because it is done by Todd Macrfarlane!!
This batman-like hero is Spawn, originally Al Simmons a CIA assassin, who was caught in an explosion set by his former comrades, was sent to hell. Given a second chance in life he was reborn as hellspawn to act as Satan's agent and participate in the war between Hell and Heaven. Al now Spawn struggles to remember what his past life was, while unknowingly getting involved in a government conspiracy being led by those same comrades who betrayed him long ago....
Now before I leave, which clip stuck out the most to you?
Also weird fact in the comics, Sonic the Hedgehog canonically meets Spawn....i wish i was making this up, lol
Wish, i knew what she even thinks in that head. Honestly, I'm convince she actually an NPC, thanks to how she acts and how dumb she is. Anyway, hope you check out Votoms soon. Oh! quick thing, i wanna recommend a series call Tsukihime. It's a series done by same creators of the Fate series and also a parallel universe to the Fate series, where vampires are the main focus. Compare to what i describe about Votoms, there's soooooooooooooooooooooooooo many stuff i wanna talk about Tsukihime, cuz one i'm a big fan of it and two, it's just.....so.....GODDAMN PEAK!!!! But we be here all day, if i told you just how good it is. So if got some time, my friend. I suggest you to read the manga (in case your the type to not read Visual Novels, which is okay). Hope you have a marry Christmas!!! :D
Thanks for the feedback. The only Persona game i played was strikers, which unfortunately i never got to finish it nor will i ever will. Since all my stuff I own were thrown out thanks to my ''mother''. This also means that the old mech drawing I did back in may is forever lost. Fortunately, I've got new games like Persona 5 Tactica and SMT V Vengeance for Christmas. Soon I'll reclaim what I lost and fill my barren empty room.
I agree that Seed was better than Destiny, despite that i enjoyed watching GSD, there were a lot of flaws that can be found throughout the anime. It's quite the shame how Shinn was treated in the show, I won't lie that he is one of my favorite Gundam characters. But, man they did him dirty and worse he gets replaced by the second coming of Jesus Yamato as the protagonist! Obviously he wasn't the only character that had wasted potential. But if GSD didn't went through a production hell, then he would have been a great mc! Well at least, SRW and Seed Freedom redeem him of being a better character.
Votoms, yeah it's good, like really really good. Prior to watching it, the only Votoms anime I saw was Armored Hunter Mellowlink (which is also really good). The main reason I watched it was to get some inspiration from an old fanfic idea I was constructing and I wanted to get back to watching mecha anime again. Picking Votoms was definitely the right choice, cuz it's one of few anime I binge watch and I only binge watch a series if I'm fully invested. Anyway, there’s a ton of things I love about the series! The characters, the music, the mechs, there’s so many things I could talk about the series! To answer your question, yes Votoms really is good and that more mecha fans like you should definitely watch it!
Side Note: Sorry this took awhile, originally i was going to post this after i finished Votoms, but i got lazy and well.........life hasn’t really treated me any kindest ever that ‘’incident’’ in July. But then again, considering my childhood, life never was that great anyway.
I only have two announcements, my younger brother recently created an MAL, he goes by SilkyBaryonyxuta. He’s still adding stuff to his profile, but you can say hi to him if you want to. Altho compared to me, he’s waaaaaaay more into manga than me, like he red so many manga that he doesn’t even know how many manga he read. The 2nd announcement is that I did a bunch of new drawings on my deviantart page, so feel free to see my art.

Just gonna leave this random fanart here (Elfen Lied/Getter Robo) I did early in the morning.
Yelp see ya! Amigo!
Damn Amuro, i guess after what happened in CCA, he's done dealing with people's bullshit, lol.

Anyways, if you're brother wants to watch it, here's a link to watch the entire show:

I only watch season one and it was pretty good!
