| I'm re-watching this, and I will be leaving what I think some things means in these chapters This is the first episode, lain a shy girl suddenly start to feel something weird, she starts to notice the wired after getting a mail from the girl who suicide in the first scene. We don't know yet why did she commit suicide but its implied that she started to disconnect from the real world and wanted to stay in the wired ("I dont need to stay in a place like this"). Chisa also mentions something about a god which will be relevant in future chapters. Lain start to get curious about the wired and ask her dad to buy her a new Navi, probably because the old one limit how much she can do to communicate with chisa. Now comes the mindfucking scene that some people don't understand... Lain was in the train and suddenly the train stops, she sees blood in the wires outside and the scene change to the streets and then to another different scenarios where she usually walks home, she see what happened in the rails, there was a girl and watch her dying, after all that she wakes up in her classroom all sweaty and nervous. I think she never left the classroom but that wasn't a dream, she was connected to the wired and she was watching what happened to the girl in the rails. after all that she sees chisa in her way home through the wired and that's the end of the episode.. |

| Nice first episode, it threw the seeds of what will be deepened afterwards. I like the sub-urban tone this anime has, even though for the first time I can't really get into an anime's art. I think it doesn't improve the atmosphere, it kinda turns me off. That aside, I'm genuinely intrigued, I love experimental/symbolic/phylosophical stuff, and I have to say I can't wait for this to get heavier, because I know it will. |

| Some amazing attention to detail with the (network? Would fit the theme and looks), the computer chassis and the writing on the blackboard. Also wonder why i heard the OP countless times even before associating it with Lain, but i don't think i've ever heard the ED before. Probably never even heard the singer.. Overall, i'm certainly intrigued. I knew Lain was a classic, a "must watch" (assuming you can stand different/weird anime), but not much else. |

| I'm back with more theories on another great anime by Ueda and Abe. This is probably gonna be like Texhnolzye all over again. Here's what I make of the first episode: -Lain seems depressed or maybe she's not depressed but she just has no friends. I believe this because of the fact that several times during the classroom scenes, all the kids were shaded black which symbolized that she didn't no any of them and that they were basically nobodies to her. - I thought that the red dots in the shade could have been symbolic of blood. I believe that she has an unknown ability to potentially put people into the "wired world". I think that the blood could have symbolized the people who died that went to this "wired world" - Her tech-savvy dad could have knowingly or unknowingly bestowed that ability upon her. - I think her parents don't care about her because her mom didn't respond to her when she said something important. Either that, or maybe they think she's crazy so they think she was hallucinating or that she made it up. Her dad also didn't care about her much judging from their conversation. - I think that the death of the person that was hit by the train might have been caused by Lain somehow, but I have no idea how yet. Its more of a hunch. -I especially that some people who die go to the "wired world" because it was showing that blood dripping from the electrical pole lines which is where the electricity for the internet would be travelling through. - On a less serious note, I'm liking that Lain bear suit. - I hear that this series is the most confusing of the 3 works from Ueda and Abe, so I'm gonna pay extra attention to detail for this series. |

| interestingg..... i kinda thought it was funny at beginning when lain said she wasnt good with computers then she was zoning out when the teacher was teaching what appaered to be programming on the board printf(something or other) lol, but im interested to see where this goes |
| Like Lain's character design. Her eyes are very pretty. I also enjoy the handling of light in the show. Very interesting. How shadows are mired in what almost looks like splatters of blood. Heard the story was a mindfuck, but this episode was pretty understandable on a base level. Girl commits suicide, chain mail is sent out, girl is seemingly still alive on the popular network "Wired" -- reminded me of OZ from Summer Wars. Lain sees hallucinations of said girl, beckoning her to join the Wired. Looks like Lain will, and the story will go from there. Hoping this'll be a nice watch. Also hoping I don't regret starting this at one in the morning if there's gonna be creepy stuff. Lain in the bear suit that her father had no reaction to made me lol. Always need our fanservice. Her parents seem real negligent, though. |
| Hmm, I was never the best at picking up these hidden messages. I don't mind these anime that require thinking and are slower paced but I didn't really like the camera shots that were all over the place. I just wish there were more dialogues. Overall I'm not judging the anime by its 1st ep. I like the opening song though |

| The episode's title was spot on: "Weird"! hehe And I love that someone caught that Weird was an anagram for Wired. :P I like the art so far, but pretty lost with what was happening (and if things were really happening, or just in Lain's mind). Very interesting, and curious to see where this goes. Right now I'm get a strange Matrix vibe lol. Totally different from any other anime I've watched so far, so I'm intrigued. Still, not much to go on in this episode, so it's just "OK" so far. ★ 3/5 |

| I have a fair guess at what's happening. When this was created, the internet was still gaining popularity. Not many people were techies back in the day. AOL chat and the like were the bomb back then. It's really cool and I doubt it's Chisa's ghost haunting Lain, more like just memories of her or thoughts of her because of course, she received an email from a supposedly deceased person, it's natural to think of them, if that's the case. |
