Loved the episode.

I was really hoping to see Nozomi .. lol

Why did that little girl have to have the same hairstyle as Honoka. T_T
I even skipped back to see if her mother was Honoka.. ha3

And that student looked like Hanayo so much, and she seemed to be a ghost. lol
.. and if I'm not mistaken, she seemed to be voiced by Minase Inori who also voiced Rem from Re:Zero.

The one talking care of the girl looked like a grown-up Umi.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned how the little girl imitating Honoka slid down the railing exactly like Honoka did in the first episode of the first season during Susume->Tomorrow. That was so cute!

The tease was real in this episode but I love the way it turned out, with the feather from the second season's ED finally being passed down to Aqours once they realized they didn't need to chase after μ's.

It was surprising to see that St. Snow is from UTX though. UTX must have changed their uniforms since A-RISE graduated...

Thanks for the heads up there. So can I assume that Love Live doesn't actually occur on an annual basis, but whenever the program creators decide to hold it? I thought there was only a years difference between the first and the second one.

No Love Live is held every year but A-Rise and μ's had the most phenomenal year in Love Live idol history. At the end of the Love Live movie, you could see Yukiho and Alisa become third years which means two years have passed. Love Live Sunshine Episode 5 shows a magazine of the 5th anniversary of Love Live and their was a pic of Alisa mixed with that. The magazine is probably a year old since it was shown in a flashback of Ruby and Dia. So it is right to say that Love Live Sunshine happens 5 years after the second Love Live.

Which means either the Otonokizaka third year student this episode could have known members of μ's first hand, or , Alisa and Yukiho in her First Year for all we know. It depends on whether this is the fifth year Love is taking place, or the sixth year. This may well be as close to a cameo of μ's we are ever going to get.

If the Otonokizaka Idol Research Club is still active, we might have just seen the unofficial introduction of Season 2's rivals, without realizing it. Given Alisa appeared on the commemoration magazine too, it probably isn't a stretch to imagine that Alisa led an Otonokizaka team without any Muse members to victory in the Love Live in her final year.

Also, doesn't Saint Snow come from Hokkaido? Does it mean that UTX has branches in Hokkaido too? That has interesting ramifications for the plot.

Because it WAS young Honoka with her mom. What they had seen was the spirit of the place and the actual scene from a past of it.

Honoka is a legit time traveler.

Sunshine just had to revisit all the places, huh? </3

I was just hoping she'd be there. Like, coincidentally. (You know, her being selfish about owning that place for muse.. When I say owning, like a personal, emotional place.)

Now that Donna Toki mo Zutto reference. Wow.
All of it has led to the lyrics of that song.

Muse may not have left anything physical in that school, but We'll always be connected.

When the original show started weren't A-Rise already the defending champions of Love Live? Which would mean that there had been at least one year of the competition before that show started, not to mention Hanayo and Nico have previous performances of school idols, so I would think that there was at least a few years worth of performances before the original show even aired?

Wouldn't that mean that maybe the original show was year 2/3 or something? And then year 5 of the competition would have been Yukiho/Arisa meaning that Sunshine takes place just after they graduated, aka 3 years after the original? That probably makes no sense, but its what my mind is saying...

Would like confirmation on exactly when this is in a timeline, tbh.

As far as I know, the Otonokizaka Idol Research Club no longer has ties to μ's since μ's took everything they had in that school. Yukiho and Alisa retelling the story of μ's was probably the last ever connection of μ's to Otonokizaka. UTX having branches or absorbing schools about to be shutdown is no suprise since UTX was largely known even before they had idols and Uranohoshi itself is about to be absorbed themselves. Also this is definitely not the fifth love live since the magazine in the Ruby/Dia flashback specifically states the "Fifth Anniversary of Love Live" and that was a year or two years ago to the current season since Ruby was not yet a 1st year in the flashback.

Okay, so as first-time viewer of this series, I'm confused as heck right now. I need some help in sorting this out.
The impression that I was given at the start of this show was that Muse were the winners of the second Love Live, and that this current group was competing for the very next edition of the series? Wouldn't that mean it was a time difference of one year?

Then I see all these comments flying about about a character from the first series being old enough to have kids... well since I don't understand the above, I'm already confused... just how much time has passed between this and the original series?

Then there's the spoiler about the first group having disbanded (?)... I guess I'd understand if I went back to watch all the seasons and movies that I hadn't before, but... would anyone mind giving this confused first-timer a quick recap please? PM would be fine since any other means would be mad spoilers.

Thanks in advance anyway.

You really need to watch the first Love Live to understand...

"We don't need to compare ourselves to U's"...

Holy fucking shit. Only took them 12 episodes to come to that conclusion. 12 episodes of riding the success of the original series. They made it look so serious with the taking down of the poster and shit...guarantee they still make a fuck ton of U's references in the final episode anyway...because y'know anime: where characters say they'll change and then revert back to normal the next episode.

Also...that child Honoka clone was unnecessary and frankly kind of weird.

Everyone has a different stance on U's place in Sunshine but what cant be denied was that the child Honoka was flat out just dumb. Definitely the low point of the entire season.

Great episode with so many symbolism from muse.

I don't have many thing to say about this episode but it hurts alot to watch, i mean look at the otonizaka school, the piano room, the rooftop and even the beach where muse disbanded ! also the symbolism from the kid that looked like honoka .. sad af i miss muse alot.

Also good job for chika to able take the hint, she no longer behind muse shadow anymore ( i'm glad and sad about this because the poster is gone now ;_;)

-o mai gah
-After seeing that they got I woulda liked the rise to success to be more gradual, though
-Riko's been pretty... busy with her fingers while in Tokyo
-Tokyo trip redux, as nine
-I don't know why but Riko's scream when the spaghetti dropped was fucking hilarious
-Saint Snow was not the people I had in mind from what Chika was saying
-Oh, Saint Snow's the spiritual successor of A-RISE, which would explain a lot of things, actually
-Ria's pretty cold-hearted
-Well, that explains why Riko's never heard of them
-After seeing the references to μ's in the first episode, I was hoping that there would be at least an episode dedicated to the Sunshines finding their own path in the idol world, since their songs didn't feel like μ's ripoffs.
-The thing where they put their hands together in the middle and raise them while cheering was pretty cool
-Chika did the thing with the feather
-Is this the first time they all sing in unison for the ED? Also that one shot of Chika's bedroom before the Sunshines started singing was kinda what I've been waiting for ever since the show started airing.

Yeah this type of episode was something that I had been anticipating from the first time they namedropped μ's in the first episode. I can kinda see the rationalization behind putting it so late in the season, since Aqours didn't become a full group until the end of episode 9. However, it was mostly the second half of the episode that had all of their search for self-worth, and nothing particularly notable happened in the first half of the episode aside from Riko's fucking hilarious scream. The new direction that the show seems to be going in would probably be something that appeals to me. I like the character dynamics of the Sunshines better than the Muses because the Sunshines are all goofy, and seeing them act as themselves and not trying to follow the Muses makes for some pretty good slice of life sequences.

Average episode, but it shows promise for the future or something

I feel an inexplicable sadness every time I watch that slow panning shot of the empty space where the poster used to be.

I know it's a good thing because now Aqours understands that they need to forge their own path but it feels like saying farewell to a mentor and inspiration.

Seriously, can you make me love this show anymore? It's great how Sunshine is able to pay homage to μ's all the while weaving together a message that it's not about repeating the same journey as them. It's been splendid watching Aqours grow and start towards the dream only they can realize. In that sense, they're ironically following μ's in spirit.

I also love how they used the same beach to convey completely different feelings from the the time μ's was there. For them, it was about making peace with the time they had left. For Aqours, it was about breaking away from what was holding them back and finally flying free. From zero to one voice.

They got into Love Live and that viewcount had me going (OHMYGAH)^3 as well! It'd be pretty difficult to get people to apply for Uranohoshi though considering how most of their new fans don't really live in Numazu and aren't planning to leave the city for it. I hope that they'll find a way to get the students who go to the school they were going to merge with to transfer there instead though.

I have to admit that my expectations were as high as Dia and Ruby's when Chika mentioned that there's a special someone who's waiting to talk to them in that shrine only to share their exact reaction when they found out that it wasn't the case. It was even more of a downer to find out that μ's didn't leave a single trace of their presence in Otonokizaka for the girls at Aqours to gawk at when they all finally graduate but that's just simply what they wanted probably because they didn't want their popularity to overshadow the school they worked so hard to save. Even though their trophies aren't around anymore, their mμ'sic had inspired and stayed within many people's hearts for years to come. Seeing that little Honky made them realize that this is how they left their legacy as school idols.

They've tried to be like μ's ever since the beginning but Chika finally found out that the answer to truly shine as school idols meant going down your own path and see what it has in store for you. While that beach symbolize the bittersweet end of something beautiful for their predecessors, it ended up being the place where Aqours had truly started establishing their own identity as a group. Now I have to feel twice as emotional when I see that exact shoreline ;~;

Yeah, this is just a complete nostalgia from the first and secondly season of a Love Live! I am almost choking when they were decided to see Saint Snow, but ended up in the A-RISE academy. Its obvious they were the same rival, still, its really surprised me. They even sat in the same room where Muses met A-RISE in the second season. Lmao. I am tearing with a complete mixed feelings xD

It was not only that. Finally they decided to visit the legendary school that already gave birth to the best group of Love Live, Muses. All of the teases were real. Everything. Peoples just already mentioned it, no need much explanations from me. Damn, i am smirked. The feels were so mixing right now. So, in my point of view, that was a great moment to brought back some of the mood that lost, to lit up all girls motivation back in the right track, to finally understand what should they do after seeing that 'zero result'. Yeah, at least they needed to work hard again, by the fact that passing the preliminary stages couldn't resolved their own school problems.

One more episodes, the curiosity overtake my guess. Everything can happened in their last moment of this season. Lets see how far that episode to give impact on my satisfaction. So far, this is surely the best of this season. I am very glad. It was surely not a wasting time. This is truly a nice way to brought back your gold memories. I am very thanks with that shit x)

I can't believe it's taken 12 episodes for these characters to figure out the obvious, that they can't just mimic Muse and need to have their own approach and style. Hopefully this will be the big step forward needed to give this group their own identity, as these characters deserve to shine in their own right rather than solely because the original Love Live exists.

Yesss chika!!! I think it’s pretty obvious early on that aquors just can’t try to be exactly like muse and chase the same success that muse did. Aquors has to be their own group. The payoff was very satisfying and I got very emotional. All the little touches as well, like dia not getting it since she’s a super fan, kanan pretty much understanding chika’s message and the interaction with saint snow. Everything coming together before the final episode is a nice way to say goodbye to muse and for aquors to go full steam ahead and shine!

I was expecting they'd meet Nozomi in the shrine, and I guess it's the same for the Kurosawa sisters. But yeah, it also makes sense that it's Saint Snow since they were introduced in a shrine for this anime.

I like how Saint Snow was inspired by A-Rise, while Aquors was inspired by Muse's.

What's with the kid that looks like Honoka? Lol. Would be funny if she'd have a more significant role in the story, but I doubt it.

I found it interesting that during the scene where Aqours were standing in front of Muse's school, leaves were falling. I guess they wanted a cherry blossom falling scene but felt like it's too cliched or out of season. IDK.

I'm guessing what made Muse's great is that they've wanted to save their school or out of their passion. So yeah, Saint Snow is partially wrong on this one, maybe?

Aw hell yeah, Chika figured it out!
