SAO was never supposed to be a "party" game. It's appeal was that it was the first Virtual Reality game (which Log Horizon wasn't until it became reality), so it was more focused on individual experience in VR. That was the appeal.

Regardless of it's selling point, SAO is STILL an MMORPG. Considering they have guild system and also needed to form a party to defeat the floor bosses, it's simply absurd to say that it was never supposed to be a "party" game.

SAO is an MMORPG anime that forgot that it's supposed to be an MMORPG, it's as simple as that.

The currently airing SAO mini-arc is actually about raiding a dungeon, but they only have 7 people and MMO mechanics are skipped in its entirety.

It's somewhat a shame. The original SAO light novels actually went into a lot of details surrounding MMO mechanics, since the author has long been a MMO fan. I'm glad that Log Horizon has not forsaken the mechanics side of a MMO anime.

Man I love this show, I have fun with it. Even if it's some small moment, I have fun. And isn't that what counts? Why watch an anime you can't enjoy for the sake of enjoying it.
Still, I think I'm alone in this one as far as my family is concerned. My uncle might like it given that he's ye olde WoW hermit. I know he's hiding his anime side, I've caught him watching Rosario Vampire.
I've been trying to get my cousins to watch it instead of youtube poop and guys screaming obscenities at each other. They liked If Her Flag Breaks, but I think they're more of the SAO faction if anything.
SAO is more action based and cynical while Log Horizon is more thoughtful and optimistic.
I go by many names, some call me Hoshimaru, others call me Jiro or Aosou-Kun.
I believe myself a force for good, a papercrafter by trade, and one who seeks love and beauty animesque.

I am the host of the youtube show Who Would You Do?

Man, I hate aggro resets. D: If only every raid could have Shiroe around maybe I'd do them more often. I love how there are really recognizable aspects to this anime from actual games.

akatsuki's been looking real suspect lately. seems ninjas can't be at peace unless they're with their masters.

I sense a civil war been hero's and natives coming soon. this better be epic though.

The main reason why i loved LH is the explanation, and they really showed it on this episode.

As a rpg player, i JUST LOVED THE ENTIRE THING :-D I hope i can experience something like this lol.

And Yes the Music did got better.
And it looks like there is something more to this dungeon, like how they said something about a new skill level 'teachings'.

And Yes, it looks like the other characters wont miss out the action.

I love it when Shiroe explains the situation in battles, it makes it a lot more understandable to me!

2 bosses down, more raiding to go!

Tetora healing everyone in her path!

A new antagonist has appeared it looks like, wonder how his design is!

GLORIOUS, 10/10.

DEEN didn't destroy the dream. They continued it! (though I preferred Satelight's animation and art for everything.....)

For too long have I been content with anime such as, Sword Art Online, which calls itself an MMO anime, yet all it does, it has HEALTH BARS! Although we all understand the GLORIOUSNESS of Health bars. The SAO health bars are BLASPHEMOUS! They have no NUMBERS, and NO MANA BAR! What HERESY IS THAT?!

Damn I forgot how amazing Log Horizon was..... it's been so long since the first season. Why is this anime not in my top 5? Probably because Mein Kaiser takes all priority, as good as Log Horizon is, nothing will ever beat LotGH. Why is Shiroe not on my Favourite character list?! Why u may ask? Well because my favourite character list needss more moeeee, and shiroe is a gamer nerd! THANK GOD HE IS A GAMER NERD, finally an accurate representation of an MMO player.... unlike that other anime that masquarades itself as something it isn't to lure in massess of unsuspecting nerds.

Damn feels so awkward to write good stuff about an anime..... I always just criticize and speak BS in those 'episode discussion' threads....

thumbs up :D

I'm still a bit confused about the details of raid mechanics.

1. When a player gets killed in a raid, can they re-enter the battle immediately, or do they have to wait for the other players to exit the zone or die? (I'm guessing they're just re-entering without delay in Elder Tale, but I'm not sure. I'm also guessing if all 24 players are dead at the same time, the whole raid gets reset, and they have to kill -all- the bosses again.)

2. Shiroe says raids can take over a month, but how is that possible in the real world? Does the raid not need to be completed in a single play session? ...Or is Shiroe including the time spent figuring out the boss's attack patterns in failed attempts?

Aside: That character at the end appears to be the same one that was polishing the Royal Guard armour in episode 1.

1. no they start at the beginning of the being of the raid. they have to walk back to the team.

1. ...okay, so just a walk back. Doesn't sound too bad.

2. Okay... so I guess the 1 month quoted by Shiroe is the time taken to figure out boss attack patterns and explore the area. I'm also guessing they defeated Vendemiaire again if he respawned, without as much trouble as the first time since they figured out an efficient way to defeat him. O.o

I don't think the mobs are respawning, since dead players should have to face the respawn without the full raid. And I don't think bosses can just respawn, there should be some kind of reset of the istance before that.

Excellent episode with all the explanations on game mechanics, but seeing them raid like this and the members die and getting revived especially that one guy who kept saying he screwed up, it kinda form a scary thought in perspective just how many times some of them died in this raid not to mention since the Apocalypse begin and how much memory of the real world they have lost.... fifty times? A hundred?

Thinking about it more and about what William said in the last episode, these guys are indeed super hardcore gamers. How many had a troubled real life that they ceded to forgetting in favor of immersion into the ET world ie. game>irl? I also recall that line Crusty said in S1. "You forget what you have forgotten." There's a bit of a somber undertone behind these glorious fighting but interesting stuff nevertheless.

Decent episode I suppose, action was sub-par but that's always been the case with this series. Those raid bosses looked hella difficult. Demi-Demi beginning to recognize the ultimate OPness that is Shiroe, that'd annoy me two. Still love the idol girl (name eludes me). Hope we get a bit less action next episode.

Well, it is a classic thing where there is an absurdly high level monster that is just a jelly but can do one-hit kill to a lower level equipment players, so i guess LH put that into this. XD

It really suck if they need to walk again from the re-spawn spot, though. I guess teleport skill really didn't exist on this game, huh. XD

Now the threat comes. Why everyone seems to hate Akatsuki, though. It's true all of her "my lord" talk can be a annoying, but i never think the hate wave will be such strong. Well, next week "probably" her time to get some development.

Wow! That the TV series has placed the arrow and is preparing, albeit slightly, to overtake the previous season?
This is my impression.
Narration that begins to like it, perhaps because it resembles to a certain qualmodo that seen in the first season, all of nature is a lot of information about the world of RPG!
The drawings are unfortunately ugly, animations on the sufficiency.

I participated to a few raid, but I was always confused with all the action that is going. It's hard sometime to keep your role because it can be lame or whatever.

Chrismas is coming, and from the last scene of the episode, it look like Santa has lost his way... :P
