Great episode, I was afraid the origin of the Hideauze would be some sort of lame time travel thing, this was much cooler! Four episodes to see where this leads....

You damm right, the show is finally living up to my expectations, since that starting setting was so promising, and now this twist... I m still mindfucked, this is so wrong.
When Chamber killed that one at the end, it gave me some NGE vibes.

When ledo casually kills the eggs and embryos with chamber's hand laser thing:

I expected them to be genetically engineered but actually being humans I did not expect.

So from what we know I think the non-hostile Whalesquids on Earth are the descendants of failed test subjects or subjects who did not make it to space with the evolvers that became the hostile Hideauze.

Once upon a time the ancestors of the Gargantia people knew these Whalesquids are humans and thus agreed it was taboo to kill them but as they were separated due to the rising water levels, they forgot the reason for the taboo while still preserving it in traditions.

The scary thing is that what you wrote isn't necessarily true. The Hideauze could both be human AND a lesser species. We don't know if that is the case, but it most certainly could be true that in the Evolution Party's quest to surpass their human origins to become a space living race they could have made themselves less than human. This we will have to learn.

Well, I don't think they devolved - pure opposite, I think they evolved. When the battle of those two factions was taken to space they needed to have better defences against their human enemies that could lead to strenghtening of their nonhuman genes and to forfeiting their remaining humanity in process. Also, those genes in their bodies could adapt and take over with time and now after hundreds and thousands of years they are acting only by instinct - and when something tries to destroy them they simply defend themselves. And they always need more space in universe so they expand to other human sectors. But when tracking origin of this conflict, former Evolvers are to blame. But you are right that due to unforseen mutations there can be more sentient and lesser sentient forms of Hideauze.

But this one is definitely more human than ony other:
Since this is a lab they are in I think there are many subspecies of Whalesquid that are leftovers or descendants of leftovers from the experiments, some are more humanoid than others.

The episode was very good. Helped to explore the universe of the work and gave some notions of how space exploration started in this world.

So humans who already had the ability to live in space; where it's quite cold; decided to "evolve" the human race because of another ice age? The last Ice Age only had an average temperature of -11 lower than we do today. Seems a tad excessive.

so they fighting their own kind all along, that was a shocking revelation
they are dangerous because they need to protect their self from the same or relevant species (human) who make them look like monsters (in space)
while on earth they don't cost harm because of there ancestors told them to or they're ancestors recognize them as they came as a human because of failed experimentation and they need to leave them as they are (if you mess with them they will be aggressive) while on space commoners or solder need to fight them because they are failed experiments so the wisdom and knowledge from earth were been cleansed or persecute (culture & religion) so there live is nothing but a tool to persecute those monsters while the higher up is having a good time because they don't need to die for its mistake, or they persecute those whale squid because they became superior and more flexible in earth and human or like human nature became jealous and did everything to make them superior again

so the thing I hate about those space people is they prioritize the science and eficiency than culture

So the Hideauze were indeed experiments, and formerly human too. No wonder the developing offspring looked so much like foetuses.

Also, Chamber killing the friendly adolescent (?) Hideauze right after Ledo begged him not too was almost humorous in how merciless it was, although still quite shocking. It looked exactly like Elaine as well, but I'm not sure if it was her, or just another Hideauze at the same stage of development.

Man, I wonder where that shield ability has been this whole time. Funny how he hasn't used it until now

And wtf was that about him being less effective underwater -_-

Well at least the reveal was cool. Love how that was put together. I noticed that the whalesquid have something like a head where their mouth is, hinting that they were once human, but also look at the Hideaze larvae, they look human. Pretty cool... But also messed up because Ledo basically just murdered who knows how many.

How many people did he just kill for his "mission."

It's actually so over.

They're going to have to decommission Chamber somehow. They will follow Alliance orders to the end

Ahahaha they were humans themselves! I thought their "faces" had some creepy mutants vibes in some shots but I wasn't expecting them to have literally humans formes come on! lmao At least this is better than I expected

And wtf was that about him being less effective underwater -_-

Eh that doesn't surprise me, pression under water is HUGE (water is super heavy as you probably know), and the deeper you go the higher it goes, while in space, there's like, none at all.
In fact it's a miracle the mecha was built for water pressure at all, or at least have the same speed etc. underwater.
