Garbage.

Gave up watching it and just listened, taking an occasional glance or so... you know that episode in that anime by Gainax where (theres more than one episode) where they spent a long time (longer than usual) talking over one still frame because they ran out of budget. Like the studio ran out of money completely. So they just had to put out episodes more like Radio Talk Shows than actual animated programmes.

I'd like to think maybe all the artists and storyboard artists called in sick at the same time so they got maybe 1 guy who was walking around the office at the studio to just throw something together in 1 day. But that would be an extremely unlikely scenario. Did the director get lazy. Did they actually animate an episode and then the animation cells got lost, accidentally deleted or burnt in a fire so then they had to just quickly throw something... anything together. I'd like to believe maybe some thing like that happened because if nothing like that happened, this was just Garbage with no excuse.

The writing especially episode 2 and episode 4 (particularly episode 4) of this season is the definition of phoning it in.

This episode really resonated with me. The feeling of people have expectations of you being your parent’s kid and having doubt of yourself trying to meet expectations and eventually going down hating yourself. Had me reflecting on my own self: wonderful episode. Hopefully Subaru can meet his parents again now that he has grown

I don't think that doesn't answer all my questions.

Well, that was the test Echidna was referring to, so Subaru reminisced about his past. Subaru is a boy who is always gloomy because he has extraordinary parents, while he is just trash. Subaru's past was sad it's just that this ending wasn't too forced, they only talked about Subaru when they were their child. Why didn't they mention another world, I knew they didn't want to be involved but Subaru only said that he would be away for a while. Is there a possibility that Subaru will return? Or was it just me mistaking it?

That moment that Subaru only covers his parents not towards him, I would prefer it if it concerns him rather than family matters. The animation execution is pretty good, I like it when Daddy chats then Subaru says that he already has Emilia. That's great, those sparkling white animations match well.

This test will last to what stage I also don't know, if Subaru experiences this will the next episode be Emilia's part? Even so the Subaru part doesn't seem to be over yet because Subaru met Echidna in class, so I'll watch it later.

And also 8/10 for this eps.

An excellent episode to flesh out Subaru's past, allowing him to confront it and come out more mature as a result. Onto the next one!

Watched this a few weeks ago but kind of fast forwarded through a lot of parts because they looked boring to me. But time and time again I’m seeing praise for this, so finally I’m doing a rewatch with a clean slate and open mind.

Damn was I stupid for not watching this properly. This is some art man

I think this episode stands out from the rest of the series as it would appear it belongs to a completely different genre from Re:Zero’s usual dark fantasy. In my opinion, it had a strikingly similar tone to ‘Welcome to the NHK’. Similar to that anime, this episode explores the emotional and mental lives of the characters, in a realistic, everyday setting.

We observe a high-schooler struggling to find his position in the microcosm of the high school, his growing isolation and defeatism in the face of a society in which he feels he has no role to play, a supportive family that feels powerless to help the son they love so much, seeing him slowly drifting away.

This episode shows the birth of a hikikomori from a purely non-fictitious point of view;

Subaru's decision not to go to school is logical; it is neither good nor bad. It did not randomly occur to him, but rather, it resulted from the process of him trying too hard to find acceptance among his peers. In Subaru’s past, there was no Rem to advise him against giving up; there was only Subaru, alone, fighting his demons.

Likewise, his parents' efforts are also logical; they do their best, in their own way, to help their son. Parents do not always have the perfect words to say. As their child grows older, their guiding authority diminishes. This episode reflects this process well. Subaru’s parents believe it is necessary to allow him to carve a path of his own, for him to truly mature. They are not apathetic; sometimes, to love someone means to give them the space to breath, the space to learn from their own mistakes, the space to grow.

Probably the best episode of the season if you look at it from an unbiased perspective. The emotions and the relatability aspect are too strong. I'm sure this episode alone has the ability to change someone's mind about Re:ZERO. It's something that can make it stand out from the rest of the isekai crowd.

This is just one of those really well done episodes that will really make you feel something, at least for me it did. It really felt like something special as it really motivates you and the MC to do what you can and try your best. I almost teared up when he said his goodbyes to his mom and dad. For me personally this is one of the best episodes of an anime that I have yet to come across.

This episode almost feels like - Subaru is a depressed kid who turned to an intense VR roleplay game where he met 2 waifus and got addicted. I don't understand the mayo thing, his mum casually asking him to eat mayo before going to school. I also thought Subaru's mom was gonna get killed in front of him when I saw the rail tracks. Anyway, it was a good episode.

For someone who doesn't like butterflies, I did not appreciate the ED

This episode was tears. I wondered how he wasn't remotely shocked after being isekai-ed and why there was no sign of his previous life or him missing his family. This content was really needed and gave more characterization to Subaru, along with S1EP18 this is the peak of the series. I agree with those who claim it, Subaru is definitely the best isekai main character.

Well isn't that just shown that they arem't his real friend . He just a clown in the class and really funny . They hang out with him only because he made them laugh and when he dont acomplise this goal , they left him.
Subaru isn't their friend and they don't need to even explain it, they follow him because he funy

I know that they are not his real friends. But it would have been better to show them, say, make a group among themselves for playing a baseball game and not letting Subaru join, for example. I feel like it happened too fast.

By far the best episode of the franchise, adapting by far my favorite part of the light novels. I preferred the light novel rendition of this but regardless, this was great. Gave reasons to actually humanize and connect with Subaru, showing his awesome parents and how his life was beforehand and really made everything with him click well. In terms of adaptation, was solid too and didn't have as many issues as some of the previous ones for me.

Subaru's parents are the best characters in the franchise. Easily. No competition.

Overreaction for sure with the best characters in the franchise but I can see why at the time, they felt like a breath of fresh air in this series, even if it was a one-time deal. Visually the episode was not that great and the filter didn't feel subtle at all with presenting the trial, and the episode could have been a couple minutes shorter since some parts dragged. But other than that, this was still the best episode of the whole series for me to this point in the rewatch and an episode that did a great job with Subaru's characterization as a whole and tying up loose ends that he had with in the past through this trial and look forward. It actually feels good having his past show up in this episode before he showed up in Lugunica and a different world, and confront it in a way for this trial and showing what kind of character Subaru was before and how that all ties into his current one.

Like with Mushoku Tensei, conversations with parents are wholesome and very different, and help with a lot of characterization and it's the case here too. I loved this episode with only minor faults and things I would change to make it flow and feel even better. If only the show could consistently make me feel like this and not have this only once in a while.

I would be lying if I said I didn't cry during this episode, the more I think the more I realize Subarau in Season 1 never even thought about his past life, so seeing it and exploring and being able to say things he didn't is just so touching,

I love the fact Subarau says something really touching and his father just proceeds to kick him in the head xD

Okay, I'm not in a very good phase of my life and I've been crying, for almost anything, what's been stored in me for years, which could have easily influenced my perception of this episode. But if I don't say I cried reasonably, I'd be lying.
