For a short (10-13ep) series, this 1st episode was a mess, but since it is quite a popular anime on its own, presumably it does pick up in some way, but meh, 2nd episode is either going to hook me up, either solidifying the current intent to drop this thing, with yet another "what masses like is not always a good thing" memory, sadly.
And dfqs wrong with silver haired MC - how can mc b so "unlikeable" in a sheer seconds of its first appearance?

*spoilerfree subjective opinion downwards for any1 who is interested to read negative opinions bout Charlotte b4r tackling it, no need 2 h8, theres no h8, opinions r always a matter of personal taste whether they r objective or subjective - it is an opinion, yes, a negative one, but by the looks of it, im not the only one who thinks like that, therefore, this further comment is meant for a newcomer which is thinking bout this title, but is on a crossroads of good and bad reviews of it, thanks for understanding*
p.s.s. Status: Dropped, Rating 2/10. Episodes watched 3.3 properly, afterwards till the end - fast forward style. Is it bad? No, definitely not. Is it good? God no, ofcourse not. Then what is it? It’s a child. A child which goes to groceries store with a fake ID, and tries to buy alcohol underage – Charlotte is trying to be what it isn’t, and ever could b at all. Is it disappointing? No, I think it would b if it would span 24+ episodes like guilty crown and franxx. Its just trying too hard 2 b what it most definitely isn’t. It tries 2 b dramatic - it fails miserably by ruining the basics of drama sequencing and character growth. It tries 2 b a cool dystopic techno-catastrophic action based mystical slice of life school drama - it fails miserably, since its just a pile of different genres bound together, with a hope that altogether the outcome would b smth ultra cool. In a way, i have a feeling it would b better if it would have bigger serialisation, like maybe 24ep+ or smth like that. Or maybe quite frankly, the other way around - the 2h movie might b a much more better solution, who knows. But the bad thing about Charlotte imho is, that if animations would b done in a less colourfull palette, with less appealing drawing style of characters - it would suffer much more as a title. I honestly feel bad for Charlotte - it is somewhat most definitely structured hastedly - the tempo of the main events and surrounding occasions around them shouldv been opened with a much less haste, and with much more richer meaning in it. It is smth like ur favourite meal, like, made from the best ingredients, big sized portion, etc etc, everything to fulfill ur physical and psychological needs, but instead of enjoying each bite of it, u swallow it up in a matter of 10 seconds and have a bad stomachache afterwards. The backgrounds of the characters are understandable, yes, definitely, but they were introduced to viewer in overly hasted form of this is A, A has such history to her/him. Got it? no? whateva, this is B...
U cant build a full on drama in a matter of 2 or 3 episodes loosely filled with fillers of different genres. Scenography and directing of movie versus the series(even if latter is as short as 12 eps) is totally different from one another. It feels like they tried to transplant the canons of filmmaking in a series, but in the end, that is not gonna work as transplanting cows heart in a human body wouldnt work either.
Although, i do respect all the positive comments/reviews iv read before - the things ppl liked n loved bout this title are definitely present there, and ppl r not overexaggerating. But, based on the things iv noted beforehand, atleast for me (and as far as i see, the same goes for many other ppl), Charlotte is like a good cognac/whisky/gin/etcetc but it is spoiled by a vial that holds it in itself - it might have been much more higher in even MALs top ranking, if it would have been reformatted and restructured differently. |
