So glad I decide4d to giver this a try. This first episode was mindblowing in every way. Intense action, over-the-top comedy and even some fanservice, to boot.

Watched this on a whim (didn't really plan to watch this during this season)...
I have to admit I'm really impressed.
It even managed a bit of fanservice without distracting too much from the story.

I cant...contain...MY HYPE. YO OHHHHHHHHHHHH. Trigger is goin ham with this one aren't they? And the outfit!! haha. It starts off all serious main girl character-ish, and it even seems like her outfit was gonna be normal, but then we see this dounjin like Sailor Moon outfit. I actually creased, twas a slap in the face of expectations. Somehow I get the feeling this'll be some sort of parody/social commentary about hyper sexualization in anime (though I hope they don't get too dramatic with it). And even if they don't, whatever it's all good, that's the director's style =D Somehow I foresee magical girl transformations in the future. Over the top art, over the top cliches, over the top action. My hype...MY HYPE

He probably meant the fan-service.
I thought it was awesome though, I mean, they're going balls out and making everything over the top, so why not the outfits and fan service as well?

That was AWESOME! (along the same lines as Dead Leaves)

I thought the "sailor uniform" looked like gengar from pokemon when it was raping demanding to be put on.

I hope they can keep the pace through the rest of the episodes.

I liked the action, the over the top humour, over all it seemed fun, but I could not stand the fanservice here. It seriously dampened my enjoyment of the show. Especially because the main girl started off as kick ass and strong willed, but kind of degenerated into a girl walking around in less than a bikini purely for hormonal fan boys.

I can also smell how overhyped this show is going to be though for the rest of the season. Like it's a good show overall, but the pacing is a bit off, and the animation, while striking, looks a bit static at times.

Yeah, I don't understand all the hate. They act like the majority of anime doesn't have any fanservice in it. lol There are some anime that I dislike and there are some genres than I dislike, but you don't see me going onto everything thing that involves that genre that I dislike just so I can talk about how much I dislike it to all the people that do like it.

I enjoyed this episode. It was pretty humorous too. I thought that boxer dude threatened to fry that girl was pretty damn funny. I feel bad for that ring girl who got punched twice. lol Ryona ftw! :P

Anyone who drops this because of fanservice is an idiot. The majority of anime has fanservice in one fashion or an other. So, you might as well just stop watching anime all together if you dislike it that much. I'm not a fan of yaoi, but that hasn't stopped me from watching plenty of anime that I enjoyed that happened to have yaoi in it.

About Ryuko uniforms and references

http://www.ultraimg.com/images/Dp5T2.jpg
Her jacket resemble the one that Black is wearing in Majisuka Gakuen. It's interesting that this Japanese tv drama is modern version of so called sukeban genre of Japanese movies. They were especially popular in the 70s and 80s (and KlK feels like a homage to 70s) and later inspired Tarantino's Kill Bill. Sukeban literally means delinquent girl or boss girl (in the sense of leader of a girl gang). One of the cliches of those movies are stories about schools full of violence that are ruled by girl gangs and a newcomer transfer girl that must face gang's female leader. They are also often over the top violent. Sukeban was also actual delinquent girl subculture in Japan in 70s which inspired those movies storylines. Sukeban uniforms resemble another Ryuko uniform that can be seen on the KlK poster

http://www.ultraimg.com/images/baeQ.jpg
Yeah it's modern version, second photo is classic 70s one. Nowadays it's something common that filmmakers make changes to this type of uniform (Majisuka Gakuen can be the best example here). It's amazing that KlK staff had such attention to detail that they even gave Ryuko red gloves that became a staple of sukeban uniforms in movies. She has also a lot of malevolence towards her enemies that was typical for sukeban girls. Beside that her motivations are inspired by Cutie Honey (similar backstory about revenge) so there is a Go Nagai's influence. Cutie Honey inspirations (Ryuko's battle uniform, fanservice etc.) shouldn't be surprising because KlK staff made Re:Cutie Honey before TTGL.

tl;dr Attention to detail in KlK is amazing, can't wait for episode 2

It was ok. I still don't know what to expect from the anime but I am going to watch the next episodes to figure out.

I'm not a great fan of TTGL so I don't know if I'm going to watch it until the end. There was also more fan-service than I was expecting, but not enough to make me drop it.

was anyone legitimately going into this expecting something deep and meaningful?

if so, you all took a wrong turn way, waay back.

this show has been hyped for months as a spiritual successor to ttgl.
everyone has a right to hate a show.

but most of you are saying its too crazy for you?

need i remind you who made this?

seriously.

might as well go marathon gunbuster, evangelion and every series of gundam and complain that theres too much focus on the mechs.
I'm not one of those who didn't like this... but the pacing did seem pretty terrible. Gurren Lagann was no where near this crazy in the beginning. I love Gurren Lagann, but this left me with a "wtf did I just watch?" reaction, only because it didn't slow down even for an instant... it went:
Start --> AJDHKSJHASKLYIYHFKH:ZLKXJC:LKHIUDYF -> END.

I'm sure this will be great and I hope it'll live up it's predecessors... but this first episode was no where near the quality of Gurren Lagann's, except maybe in fluid animation. My only real issue with this episode was that it seemed to me like it was trying way to hard to be like Gurren Lagann. If it can keep something like this up, I guess that'd be impressive, but it could slow down just a bit. The only thing more fast-paced than this series is Ryuko's new friend Mako. It was great, but I think this is way over-hyped. I just hope the mindlessly obsessed fanbase doesn't ruin any chance of actual discussions about it.

How does hating on fan service equals acting like majority of anime doesn't have it? it doesn't matter if others have it, it doesn't make it any better. And there are plenty of anime without fan service, it's not my fault you watch shit.

PD: fan service isn't the only reason I dropped it. (before someone make a stupid assumption)

Sushiobunny translated the short introductions of Satsuki and Ryuuko, written and illustrated by Kazuki Nakashima in a newspaper.

http://sushiobunny.tumblr.com/post/63219147108/kazuki-nakashima-himself-wrote-short-introductions

Here comes the speculation that Ryuuko might have been adopted by the old man who was killed with the half scissor blade.

And have to admit Satsuki's final words from this ad sound epic. :)

i never understood why this anime was so hyped, but i thought after the first episode i might understand it... well, wrong. i don't get it. what's so special about it? don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to pick a fight here, but people were so excited about this anime and i just expected... more tbh.

i don't like the art style because it looks way too cartoon-y for my taste. the main character seems pretty cool, her outfit's damn nice and her voice is great. the rest of the characters don't really seem that interesting to me, though. the music is good, the animation and story seem average.

i guess i have to get used to it at first because i actually expected something completely different, as i said before. it wasn't a bad start, just an unexpected one. well, let's see what they'll do with that show. maybe it'll be an entertaining show at the end.
