People always complain about dumb topics that return often. This and it's manga equivalent is one of my TOP dumb topics. There is no such thing as anime with the best visuals. There are many different kind of stories which requires many different approach to artwork and animation which are equally good on a fundamentally different way.

I can understand where you’re coming from, as you’ve been on this site longer than I have, but the main objective of me posting this was to see other people’s opinions on what they thought what looks the most visually appealing. Of course there’s never going to be an anime/manga that ever single person can agree on what looks the best, but there’s always going to be a general consensus on what looks good and what doesn’t. Like you said with many other anime have their own unique visual style with their different approaches to art and animation, that was another factor in me making this post, which was to help me, and possibly other people find new and unique shows that they might have not experienced yet, in addition to a possibly interesting premise, now me and other people know on top of that premise, an art style that is unique and essentially enhances an experience they might not have been a part of without some other background knowledge.

People repeatedly complain about "dumb" people who make repetitive topics. Who's worse?

Dead Leaves. Art, animation and delivery its such a fun trippy watch. I love it.
Redline, Devilman Crybaby, Ping Pong all left positive impressions.
One Punch Man definitely a favorite. Sigh.

Personal vote would go to Akira, legitimately most of my enjoyment comes purely from watching the the artwork and animation alone

Why don’t we become monsters and really mess up this awful world? Just destroy until there’s no more evil, no more sadness, no more anything…
Wouldn’t that be great?

- Space Dandy. One of the best looking anime out there. Not only does it have great animation thanks to Bones' high production value, pretty much every episode has its own unique artstyle.
- Redline. It's animation is so good that it bankrupted Madhouse.
- Millennium Actress
- The Monogatari franchise
- Katanagatari
- Most of Robot Carnival and especially the short "Presence".

People mentioning Violet Evergarden and me like: in its same season there are even better looking shows. It's gorgeous though.

As for this question, I'll give it to Redline. It's not even a style I dig too much, but every frame is super aesthetic in its way. Of course, some great visual productions like Shinkai's come close, but this one is an achievement on its own.

I liked Redline as a whole
The backdrops showcasing nature and the weather in Hyouka I liked too
Houseki no Kuni was nice to look at
The visual presentation of the older Kino no Tabi I remember I liked a lot too

My most visually pleasing anime is Mononoke (series).

Anime like Kimi no Na wa don't make it for me because while they look neat and pretty they lack impact and weight.

OPM s1 had great animation but in the wrong context, it contrast pretty badly with what the show is about.

Houseki no Kuni looked wonky.

I personally have a soft spot for Gundam Char's Counterattack. I have watched the final fight between Char and Amuro dozens of times and the animation still blows me away. Stunning visual quality.

Literally half of the 80's/early 90's movies and OVAs + all the over the top Gainax/Imaishi stuff, from NGE to Kill la Kill.

Try Kawajiri works like Ninja Scroll and Cyber City Oedo 808; Akira, Venus Wars, Area 88 (OVA)

The title should definitely be "what anime was the most pleasing visually to you" or something like that tho, because title and OP don't match.

Animation Quality? Mob Psycho. visual quality is a much harder question to answer, but i'd go with either a ghibli movie or 3-Gatsu no Lion.

I think the one that I have noticed how much detail it has visually is "Monster". They not only kept backgrounds consistent during keyframe switch (you see bush behind the character, same bush with the same shape, but with detailed leaves and branches visible when character face gets focused). They were careful of shadows, and used some blurring to emphasis on camera depth changes (although anime does not use actual camera). No wonder it is up for live action adaptation.

For me, these anime series have the best visual quality (a.k.a art/animation):

1. Violet Evergarden
2. A Silent Voice (Eiga Koe No
Katachi)
3. Your Name. (Kimi no Nawa.)

Kotonoha no niwa was the only one of those I've watched that left an extreme impression just because of the visuals. Other had their moments too, but not to that level.
"The problem with defining even an aspect of your personality by something that you like, is that criticism of that product appears to you to be criticism of you personally. I find it to be a very harmful attitude, [...] you can't rationally discuss a product because you've started to define yourself by its very existence."

The Ancient Magus Bride is one of the best background arts I've seen in anime.

Otherwise I'd say classics like the most recent KyoAni stuff such as Hyouka and Violet Evergarden.

Best 3D stills in hands of Ufotable with Fate/Zero and Stay Night, sorry Houseki no Kuni.

Animation-wise, Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann are unbeatable even by now.
