Not_Biased said: I have tried balancing education with anime, but it's near impossible to do so. In fact, trying to do both simultaneously is more hindering than it is beneficial, as I am unable to put 100% into either. Explaining this to my parents isn't going to be easy, I want them at least to give me a year to chase my dreams, and if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Plain and simple. I wouldn't know unless I try, and this is something I really want to do and I'm feeling really good about it. What do you guys think? 1. life is cruel out there. If you purposefully weaken yourself It wont get better. You dont have to be a professor but even a "simple" craft can be valuable for the society. If your grades are bad they still will be better then having none. With the masses of unlearned workers from dysfunctional societies and robots which get rid of mindless repetetive labor, education is already and will be even more a key to survival (not sufficient but necessary) 2. Please dont let yourself be tricked by single cases. How many players are there in the world total? And how many can earn a living from that? Always put things into relation, dont just look at the tip of the iceberg but the whole thing. Would all people do that american dream would be already dead and we would be soo much further in the world. 3 Finding the balance between work and recreation is a lifelong battle. Just because you struggle to balance anime and education now, it doesn't mean its impossible (though I never balanced it either; to me even those schoolanimes are alien, where the fuck do all those people get that time to do anything for those plots). 3.A: make your Animawatching more flexible: Recording airing anime instead of being forced to life watching, downloading anime to binge watch them anytime later 3.B; make your learning times more efficient I have no idea about your way of learning. But there are methods to make learning more efficient. What I experienced a lot is that people waste their time during school lessions where you can learn easily 70% of the subject (admitted if the teacher is good :D) |

Think both education and anime as duel quantities just like day and night which doesn't intersect at same time( unless it's a special condition). AND GO ON WITHOUT THINKING OF DROPPING OUT SO THAT YOU CAN ENJOY ANIME ALL TIME WHENEVER YOUR OUT OF COLLEGE, "THAT'S MY MOTTO". |

The age to go to college is not the issue here folks. OP wants to drop out meaning they're in college already. Mind as well finish? The only best reason to drop out if its not the desired major you want to study cause that'd be a waste of time. Dropping out for anime is a waste of money. Lmfao. Is it going somewhere? Anime can definitely wait. Finish your education and leave the watching to your free time. Otherwise you're gonna be a dropout that ends up watching too much that there's gonna be nothing else to watch. Then what? |

That's a big yikes from me fam. Making it in the gaming/youtube/twitch scene is not easy at all. In fact, a lot of it is luck. Whenever I feel like dropping out of college all I have to do is show up at my parttime McDonald's job and look at the 40-year olds that work there full-time, with no opportunities to grow and a tireless repetition of the same motions day in day out. If you really don't want to finish college though, here's the battle plan: Stop watching anime. You're gonna need all your free time (since we're not dropping out of college yet) to get whatever you want to do going. Actually make it in said field. Just in your free time. That's how 90% of people do it. Quit college and finally... Still not have time to watch anime because building your own gaming/youtube/twitch empire will take 20 hours of every single day, and you need the remaining 4 hours to sleep. Sleep tight! |

If you think you’re good enough to get into ESports, then you should probably verify that before dropping out of college. You can become a millionaire in ESports, but it’s extremely difficult to get that good, and you’d have to approach it more or less like an actual job. ‘Not all its cracked up to be, as someone with secondhand knowledge. If you think you’ll have loads of time to watch anime, you can forget about it now. OP likely isn’t serious, but I figured this might be worth posting for any teens who might happen to be skimming through AD. |

the chance of success is low for you unless you are 1 really skillful i mean on a seriously skillful level then you get the opportunity to reputate yourself and become a professional competitive gamer or speedrunner or whatever if chances are or maybe a streamer 2 already have a small fanbase, or you have the personality to appeal to gamers then you become a youtuber or streamer straight up and build up your own community piece by piece, like most of the people on twitch or youtube |

People think dropping out of college is a bad idea... Smartest thing to do is drop out of whatever your useless scam major is that you obviously hate, so you don't waste tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Of course if you have a decent major that leads to something useful like engineering don't drop out. Semester should be done i'd imagine so take a term off (you don't lose general education scam credits that corrupt schools force you to pay for) and apply them to a different major. |

This is a post that is pissing me off. You have no clue how good you have it in school. I had my first job when I was 10, I worked around 2 month each year up to I graduate from school at the age of 19. After I graduate from school I worked on alot of different places for 2 years even had some time where I was out of work. School is the best time I can promise you that. The reality as lot harder then reading some books and do some test. I have worked with heart problems that led to I got alot of health problem and been sick for 4 years soon. I can't do a fucking shit in reality, I can meet up friends, I can't work, I can't do a shit more then sleep or watch anime. beacuse my body can't handle more. I can tell you this from someone that dosen't have a life, it's sucks. It sounds so damn good living at home and watching anime. Sure, my body is getting weaker each week, I can't go up from bed sometimes beacuse I feel so weak, I can't even train up my body, beacuse if I do that I get so sick I 'm to tierd to eat. Dropping out from school to watch anime and start streaming, do you think you are a GOD or what? I think we shoud do what we want in life, buy you are just a little kid that can't think longer then you nose. Life is not so easy that we can drop out from school just beacuse I have a idé in my head about some made up fantasy where I can start living by streaming at twitch and watching anime all day long. ...... Please mate. think a bit before doing stuff. And me that are close to doing what you want, I can tell you, it was fun the first few week. But it gets boring really fast. |

Don't drop out of college just to watch anime. I work part time, and it is repetitive as fuck: working 9 to 5 at a place like McDonald's will make you want to kill yourself. If you're going to try to make a living off of gaming, FIRST get a degree, and get a real job, like a scientist. THEN try to make a living off of gaming part-time. Once you're successful enough, maybe then make a living off of gaming full-time, because that way, by having a degree, you can get an actual job just in case. |

i dropped out of college and started writing. only reason i went to college was because i didn't have a solid idea of what i wanted to do in life. (until i took creative writing and ended up writing a novel when we were only required to write a short story.) |

The ammount of genuinely good animes out there is abismally low so you don't lose anything if you arent religiously watching anime 24/7 the concept of sacrificing "x" thing just to watch anime is dumb. If you have seen a future on streaming because you have a small following on Twitch or whatever i dunno i'm not too much into the streaming world to talk about that topic. Why did i bother answering honestly if i knew this was a bait? Well because otherwise it would have been spam. |

not to be rude but wth? you have to be joking. but if you're not, here's my two cents: tbh education comes before anime imo - you can't make a living off of watching anime unless you're the anime man but he's the anime man. here's what i'd do: finish college, get your degree, get a stable job, and then decide what you want to do. |

I'm gonna be blunt with you because I see a faint bit of my depressed 18-year-old self in you. The bit I hated even back then. You need to grow up. If you're 25-years-old, as your profile would suggest, and your priority is not self-improvement to be able to take care of yourself the rest of your life but rather to have as much time as possible to watch Japanese cartoons then you're very childish. We all have hobbies that we'd love nothing more than to dedicate all the time in the world to, but we have responsibilities. You as well. If you're that much of a fan of anime you could always try going into the field by studying art and animation but you cannot sustain yourself playing video games. It's a niche field with too many variables, the most glaring being that its extremely volatile to websites T.O.S and the game producers' discretion. Video game companies allow them to continue at the moment but it isn't legally binding for them to allow people to show off their video games' content in full. While now defunct, Nintendo's Creator Program is a big example of how easily game companies can manipulate Let's Players if they so choose. In the cases of controversy, a video game company can a the drop of a hat choose to ban all its content on websites if it deems it detrimental to its profits or shareholders. Same with advertisers for ad-revenue - Look at Tumblr. But above all, what happens 10 years from now if your Let's Plays don't take off to staggering heights for you to live comfortably and you have no area of expertise to fall back on for steady income? Or do you plan to become the next PewDiePie? If so please share your secret with the other 15 million Lets Players on youtube trying to do the same. The direction you're going in and the apparent guardian role your parents still play in your life tells me this will lead to you burdening them when times get rough. Be wise. Finish your degree. There is plenty of time to watch anime in-between breaks while you study. I did just that and finished both my Undergraduate Economics and Finance Masters degrees with high marks, and it's not like I was especially bright or anything. If I can do that, anybody can. For me, I have never been prouder of myself than holding my degrees on graduation day after 4 years of bullshit. Things don't come easy in life. |

If you're a freshman then I think it's not a bad idea to drop out of college and pursue gaming career. Not saying that it's easy though. Search for connections and then drop out immediately before your debt added up, never give up, take risks but don't die. But if you're a few miles away from graduating college, it's better to finish college and then pursue gaming because in case you are failing the gaming career, you still have your degree to back it up. If so, get a normie job that wouldn't make you work 24/7 while still pursuing your gaming career. Edit: And about balancing anime and education, have you tried creating a schedule and making priority? I'm an engineer college student but I can still watch anime in like 6 episodes per day and watch a bunch youtube videos. |

I think a lot of people have already said what I'm going to say, but I really don't think this a good idea. I love anime and gaming too, but I manage to find time for it in school. If you're considering blogging/streaming/critiquing, just know that's a very hard and very unstable career path to get into. It's hard to be creative in this modern environment and come up with something new, funny, or witty. One of my friends said that one of his friends had a full-ride scholarship to the college of her choice, only for her to drop out and start beauty vlogging, a career path that has only gained her less than a hundred subscribers/viewers. I'm not saying that you can't review/watch anime or game for a living, but you have to have something stable first. I want to be a writer, but considering it's an unstable career choice, I'm going into the STEM fields, while writing on the side and seeing if it will ever off. If I don't become a successful writer, then I have something to fall back on. I mean you do you bro, but if I were in your shoes, I'd stick it out in college and get a well-paying job BEFORE looking to video games and anime as a career choice. If you make an impulsive choice and have nothing to fall back on, you'll regret it. I feel that aside from romance, that was one aspect that Recovery of an MMO Junkie was trying to drive home. Like Moriko was living off of bottom-of-the-barrel convenience store food because she couldn't stop spending her money on an online video game after quitting her respectable job. Not only that but she forgot to maintain a decent sense of hygiene because she was so enraptured in her computer. Not saying you can't, I'd just advise against it since it doesn't seem like the best choice. |

Why drop out when if you feel you don't have enough free time when you could just take less classes next semester? It will take longer to finish but it's not dropping out and is easier to go back to normal amount of classes later if you change your mind. |
