| After finishing off a more somber arc dealing with Mugen's past, this episode lets you know right away that we're going back to Champloo's lighter zaniness. The narrator is a minstrel, Jin can't fish, Fuu gets fat, etc. And of course, a lot of coincidences bring our heroes into the midst of the action. I love how Mugen figured Yatsuha was kinky, and he was getting into it. Even funnier that she manipulated him into helping her the whole way. Also, do you realize how many ninja are involved in this narrative? Basically this takes all the awesome and funny of Samurai Champloo, and makes it knock down the dark parts with a Jungle-Swordsman Ninja-Policewoman Tag Attack. 5/5. PS I ship it. |

| damn, mugen got played really hard here. the closing statement by yatsuha gives hope for the viewer, but this could be slightly misleading. no idea why the creators designed fuu to eat a lot, get big, and then return to a normal state. i suppose this would have only complicated the plot at hand, making the audience deal with too much on their plate. also, jin vs those ninjas was too easy, like wat. |

| Okay at this point this show is starting to lose me. What the hell was that weird expository song at the beginning? And I assume we'll return to Koza and resolve the plot from last episode at some point... i would hope. I mean we go from Koza begging Mugen to kill her to... goofy self-aware narrators and Jin failing to fish? Really broke immersion... maybe it'll pay off later? Also, while I appreciate that this show doesn't treat sex like this forbidden thing as other animes tend to do, I'm starting to feel like it focuses on sex a bit TOO much. The "Mugen gets duped by an undercover prostitute" schtik is getting old. |
