I cried on this episode a lot. One of the best series I watched this year.
She left, she reincarnated. :o

Moral of the story: Don't kill yourself.
Hope there will be a second season.

Hmm looking back on Death Parade I realize I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I'm a little disappointed really. I'm mean just a little disappointed. It had its good points and at least the music was good. It's a 6.5 for me.

That was a really nice watch. Definitely adding this to my favorites.

The whole entire Nona and Oculus conflict and scheming was a bit disappointing but development between Chiyuki and Decim was nice. I like bittersweet endings.

Also the BGM is top notch.

Woah, this anime really impressed me more than I had imagined it would!
Great series that leaves us thinking about life/death.

I couldn't resist seeing Decim crying, I had to join him hahaha, and during their farewell too... His smile, her crying, oh gosh ;_;

easily a 9/10 for me.

I loved this show's ability to raise open-ended questions. Particularly:

What does it mean to objectively judge? Is there such thing? Or does subjectivity have to play a role?

In other words, reason vs. emotion.

I think some parts of the show could've been fleshed out more, some side characters were a bit one-dimensional, some parts were a bit WTF, but overall, it was a good show. It made me question, and it kept me entertained.

First 10/10 I've ever given an anime. It had some limitations, but it did way more with 12 episodes than any other show of its length I've seen. It also didn't try to be something it wasn't, which I appreciated.

Well, there are ups and downs there and I get emotional at the end. 8/10 for me.

Monad said:
To be honest i didn't find the show as amazing as many people here. The characters never really make me feel much for them. They all seemed so distant for some reason. I found myself feeling a lot more for the human characters being judged that appeared on only 1 or 2 episodes actually.

Second they tried to put a more wholesome plot other that the episodic lives of secondary characters but that plot let to nowhere really and hardly felt like it gave any meaning to the show.

My thoughts as well, especially the bold part. That's why I said ups and downs.

The feels are strong this episode. They're so strong that even Decim felt them ;_;

I'm glad that Decim can finally smile. I was hoping for his smile during Chiyuki's ice skating episode. 10/10 for his half smile while greeting the next pair of dead people.

8/10 from me. Would have been 9/10 if there was more development between Oculus and Nona on what is to be done about the system now that arbiters can develop emotions. This show was one roller coaster ride. It was very enjoyable.

So this is the end , compared to OPM I think 12 episode is more than enough for this anime , last episodes I started to feel a bit boring , but this final episode is very good , Great ending , Decim crying was really touching .

Animation 8/10 : Good animation

Art : 9/10 : I liked the design of the places and the arbiter eyes and the billiards .

Sound : 9.5/10 - Great soundtrack , very good effects and voice acting , maybe because its dark i rate the sounds section high ,for me most dark anime shows get 9/10 and above in sounds .

Story : 7.5/10 - lets call it Semi-Episodic , though it had some great stories ( e.g ep 7&8) it also had average stories , and ending was great . good choice for the number of the episodes .

Character : 7/10 - Good characters , considering the total number of episodes it had good development in characters , I only hated the girl in episode 6 .

Enjoyment : 9/10 - if this was 24 episode i would rate this 8 and maybe 7 , but these 12 episode most of them were very enjoyable and i felt like some episodes were just 10 minutes .

Value : 6/10

Overall : 8/10

Very Good Anime .

I'm torn on this show. I loved Chiyuki and Decim, but so many questions where left at the end for me. This almost needs an ova or a short second season to wrap up questions they left unanswered. I had a lot of feelings at the end, but re those enough to overpower some of my frustration with the ending? Who knows....

These last two episodes were so great. The whole button scene, the goodbye scene, and the very last scene with the Chiyuki mannequin were all so well done.

That forced smile into the real smile right before the door closed was so good! And then the very last smile, revealing the Chiyuki mannequin, and then cutting to the OP was such a great ending sequence :)

Besides the great facial animation of this series, I also want to praise it for its OST. I'll be listening to it a lot.

Death Parade gets an 8/10 from me 😊

Heh. I was right to have contemptuously projected the blindness that would exude from those that would here yap. Dummies.

To be unable to see that which is not blatantly shoved into their faces, that is why we can't have nice things.

Anyway, a series displaying good enough a peek into the human mind. Though, I wish it were more intellectual and less humane, however difficult that would have been to pull off without creating improbable encounters relatively to the established in-universe...'atmosphere/context'.

Yeah, if you don't have real reason to do so (though suffering is not comparable and no one but you can judge whether the suffering you are going is too much or not) It's really arrogant to say that life is always worth living. I personally agree that suicide should be the very last option but there's tons of people to who life's just hell.

It is common that people who failed to kill themselves regret that they even tried but that's certainly not case for everyone.

Well, what can I say, when everybody is talking about this being a masterpiece, I guess, I'm on the lonely bunch team saying this Anime ain't that good.
Unrealistic ideas, gloomy feelings, flawed mechanics, bullshit cliche moments etc are keeping this from being good. I was expecting someone to actually break that shtty judgement system as it is majorly flawed. (Sora would've done nicely to break that system).
The Anime also doesn't explain many things & doesn't discover many ideas (Maybe they'll do if they plan on making S2).

I rate it 7/10.

I would have to agree, and 7/10 might be a bit generous even. I found the whole concept of Arbiters and the judgement system mildly interesting, but only because the whole scenario is so twisted and broken. It's sort of like a car crash, where you can't look away. All of the people are being judged unfairly and manipulated. Now, some get off easy in the tests, while others are pushed to the edge in order to bring out their "darkness". I was also confused on how Decim had human emotion until the last episode, he's completely emotionless throughout the series and is clueless to what human emotions means. Did his emotions not manifest until the last episode? Where as Ginti clearly displayed human emotion, even if he seemingly possessed only negative ones. I would be interested in a season 2 if it really explored why Arbiters exist and the underlying things that the show seemed to be hinting at. Otherwise, it was merely entertaining watching how screwed up the "afterlife" was.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

I gave it a 7/10 based on the graphics & other things. Plot-wise, it's 5.5 or 6/10 for me.
Death Parade gives a feeling that, a mass-murderer could get away if he keeps his mind cool during the shtty judgement (Also, I finally understood that, the game they play, doesn't mean anything).
As you said, Arbiters aren't supposed to show any emotions yet Decim shows emotions all the time & he fking cries in the end (Ginti does but negative emotions & kind of positive in the end). They should rephrase the term & say clearly that, human implanted Arbiters may show some emotions while robotic Arbiters are void of any emotions whatsoever.
Many of the guests are also dumb as hell. Also, reincarnation ain't paradise coz you may or may not enjoy your reincarnation.
I agree with you, S2 is needed to explain these things & discover more ideas.

I think it was a good show. The ambient music, the suspense and drama is what made this show interesting for me.

The plot was okay. Furthermore, I feel the "darkness" they refer to is more of a survival instinct to live no matter the cost which is part of human and animal nature. Even a cornered animal will fight back no matter how docile it may be. But to punish them by sending them to the void is just too cruel. Therefore, the whole judgement system seemed morally flawed according to me.

The Main characters were okay. I never liked Decim's monotonous character at all. Even the other character seemed like they are all playing god. But I like how the human emotion helped Decim feel empathetic instead of just sympathising with the dead.

Overall 7/10

I cried to this one SO BAD!! When Chiyuki cried watching a projection of her mother. When Decim actually started feeling sympathy - FEELING! OMG!!! It's so touching!!

And I thought they were going to have something, like a friendship or a relationship - even after they separated from the bar. But sadly Chiyuki had to leave. I really would have loved if they came just a little closer. Farewell you two! It has been an honour watching you guys through all this. Gonna miss you both so terribly much.

Let me say one thing: The ONLY thing that matters in this anime is the question of what happens to people who are sent to the void.

I've read through a ton of fan-theories about the subject, but the only person who knows the answer to that question is the writer, Yuzuru Tachikawa, and frankly Japanese anime writers are usually very conservative and dull when it comes to resolving their stories. Most likely it is as simple as "reincarnation is reincarnation" and "death is death": People who are sent to the void are simply put to perma-death.

That is why I will NEVER watch this anime. It doesn't matter how good it might be, the fact is that all your pet theories about what this anime is about may be crushed in an instant when the writer shrugs his shoulders and says "the void is death". In which case it is a horrible story.

It came so naturally to try to understand all those characters, and then try to decide if it's even possible to judge them.
This is one of the best anime I've watched.
It made me think and I felt really involved. It was a wild emotional rollercoaster.

@Brand_X I think the thing that matters in this anime is whether or not it is fair or even possible to try to understand a human (it was literally put into one of the main charaters mouth in the grand finale). That's why the author wouldn't really care about the void theory -this simply wasn't what he was after, so it doesn't matter.

I don't understand...this thread. Why do most people here seems satisfied with the last episode just because Decim smiled? huh? Almost everything still feels inconclusive to me. I can't force myself to like the last 2 episodes, no it's not the issue that it seems to be rushed. I can't pinpoint it yet, need to watch it again I guess, but I believe it has something to do with how the last part was written as such, there's really something off in there.

I was just thinking.. About Ginti's story, why did the cat not come back? Did the cat symbolize something?
About how he sent the girl and the idol to the void so she could be with him for eternity, doesn't that mean she was in bliss? She was in the void and did not expereicne fear or sadness.

Does this mean that the void could be heaven or hell depending on your intentions and emotions? much like rebirth could be heaven or hell depending on the life you experience and the freedom you have to choose your life.

Sorry, might belong to episode 11's discussion as well. Just had to put the thought somewhere.

Btw, I love Nona, so glad she didn't get taken off management or anything. Seemed like a peaceful ending for her. The fact that she said they didn't need to do anything could also mean the plan had suceeded, she got the ball rolling on Decim and Ginti. Thank You for this great show and message against suicide! :)

A good ending. What I am wondering is why was it not allowed for Chyuka to stay as an arbiter for a bit longer after she passed the test? I know the manequin began to desintegrate but it could have been replaced.
