Does anyone know what the other beta testers are doing? It's strange that we haven't seen even one of them till then.

Still being shunned for some reason I guess...not that they matter because Kirito seems to be the only one who really uses his beta knowledge to such an extent.

Yes, and he clearly portrayed why that isn't the case and in the following discussion we elaborated on that. And Obstinate didn't react to it, that was the point where I was referring to.

But then again, you said in the other thread that you don't like reading that much. Go figure.

Can you find my post where I said that?
No you cannot because I didnt say it.

Go on...I want to see another rants from someone with superior intelligence like you.

the only other beta testers thats been confirmed in the Light Novel is Argo the rat and coper but argo barely makes an appearance in the anime and coper's existence was cut off completely T_T

its been said that some of the beta testers went solo and were killed in the higher levels while some gave up on soling and went joined guilds

beta testers or rather beaters keep their existence hidden, heathcliff for example could probably be a beater and such. So its not like beaters/bea testers don't exist any more but instead they are hiding the fact that they are one.

Exactly, 90% of the shown scenes in the anime are a fucking contradiction. Look at Bastard!!, D.S. is as overpowered as you can get, but unlike this fap fiction it isn't supposed to be taken seriously. It is the difference between the proclaimed depth and the shown content that make SAO look very shallow.

Actually he has one more HUGE flaw, that is pretty dumb and shallow.

After Sachi- Ah man I can't trust myself or others anymore

After Silica- Oh she was nice to me even though I used her as bait like a jerk, plus our journey went fine. Maybe I should learn to trust others more.

After Meeting up with Klein again- Oh he still treats me as a buddy even though I abandoned him like a jerk.

After Liz- Oh she came along with me and kept her word of making an awesome sword. Maybe I should learn to trust others more.

Hooks up with Asuna- I can't trust myself...I just can't

Hooks up with Asuna for rizzle- I think I can learn to trust myself and others now.

It's like nope, no other character has any influence on him, just Asuna. It makes him feel really shallow and really dependent on his relationship with her otherwise. Even Nana K. isn't this shallow xD

Well congrats on completely misinterpreting his character.

after Sacchi he realized(thought) that he can't TRUST TO TRUST himself. Sacchi situation, in his mind, happened the way it did because he was over-confident and egoistic, tending to use others for his own gain, which he realized about himself completely in Silica situation.

Meeting with Klein again was the first situation of him DOUBTING his whole hard-headed position and self-punishment. But in a way the journey through the show makes him realize that he was just running away from responsibility after that failure, hence the Gleam Eyes mental breakdown(where Klein was also there, obviously).

What these situations helped him is to not punish himself that much and actually open up a bit to Asuna, it did not solve his social awkwardness he had since the start, it did not lessen his guilt he fears, it did not take away his own cowardice in face of death, it did not take away his proritization obsession and superiority complex. Why? because those are separate flaws who were ALSO in various ways affected by each of these situations.

hyperknees91 said:

I think the problem is his only real flaw is that he doesn't trust people enough, which isn't really shown strongly because he still socializes and helps them out enough. This in line with his boring personality just makes him a shallow character.

Except that in majority of situation he FORCES to socialize himself. he never initiates it and he is VERY passive at it and 99% of the show has shown that already.

Not to mention that the show has also shown that he can over-estimate himself and can be quite egoistic. He also can be a coward and when time comes he tends to prioritize people (himself and asuna over everyone else).

Nidhoeggr said:
Obstinate said:

He does have flaws. This episode single-handedly showed that he is actually quite weak and vulnerable. He even suggested running away from the front lines, is that something a strong person would do?

OH NOES, he totally suggested such a thing. It doesn't matter if he soloes every fucking monster, player and admin afterwards because he suggested that. He is soo laid-back, cool and amazing!!!!111

Character power level =/= character flawlessness.

Character power and character CHARACTER have nothing to do with each other. Character can be overpowered and still be flawed and interesting character, like it is in case of Kirito. Stop sprouting bs.

...this is pseudo-characterization. Until we are SHOWN actual flaws, Kirito's own words are worth shit.

Yeah, lets forget that half the show was spent on SHOWING his flaws and his social awkwardness and everything else that negates your pathetic "arguments".

This episode is so-so for me, not as impressed as it used to be. I think they show too much on their relationship, so it start to get 'meh'.

And damn, that's the lamest cliffhanger of all time. The episode didn't have to end like that; it would be nicer to just finish the fight and end the episode. I mean, hell, you know they wouldn't die. You know that they will win the fight ...

I think if they really want to cut for a cliffhanger, they should do it right *after* the boss appearance. "Oh shit, big boss! Whoops ED start ..."

-----

This episode made me rate this show 9 => 7. They really have potential to get it right, but then screwed it up ...

I think you're misplacing the work socially awkward with introvert. Socially awkward people...literally don't know how to interact with others (Think Casshern or Tsukasa or the main character of NHK), and he obviously does as he's pretty natural around people. Just because he doesn't instigate anything it doesn't make him socially awkward, it just makes him introverted. It's not really a negative trait either.

Yes thanks to this episode, we actually got to see a more human side to him (which I was glad to see), no complaints there.

Asuna is more introverted than just socially awkward.

Kirito CAN socialize to a degree, but it has been shown plenty that he just does not know how to do it naturally, without an outside influence (best example being how in Ep2 when everyone asks to group up, he literally has no one to group up with and is quite confused and surprised by that). Kirito has the potential, but everything that we know of his backstory shows that potential being squashed by the lack of social interaction.

And yes, as his relationship with Asuna progresses, we see him more open and more capable of talking to people. Even Lisbeth episode shows Kirito's progression in terms of social interaction, when compared to his first interactions in first few episodes, especially after the Sacchi accident.

There are different degrees of social awkwardness of course, but Kirito has been clearly built up as someone who honestly feels uneasy around people and does not have the basic instincts of socialization, while Asuna is someone who both feels uneasy around strangers AND chooses to not socialize(till Kirito breaks the wall)

Isn't that just because he is a loner who likes to keep to himself (hence his introversion).

Eh when he interacted with Klein in Episode 1 it was perfectly natural. And when he interacted with Asuna in episode 2 he was actually the one who instigated the conversation first. Also with Silica he was still pretty natural and helpful.

It just feels like he likes to keep to himself (obviously because of an event in the real world that was hinted at earlier).

SAO's only purpose to exists is wish fulfillment so why are you talking about pseudo-psychology? The series clearly isn't trying to be psychological, everything you connect to it is nothing but over-analyzing. I could as well claim that light effects during battle scenes are religious symbolism and there would be no difference.
I definitely have superpowers. I can feel it in my balls.

Oh my the passion between Asuna and Kirito has reached record levels - I'm happy for them BUT I'm also very scared i.e. if their relationship is this strong this early on there's a good chance that Asuna (or maybe Kirito but less likely) WILL DIE at some point.

What was the purpose of this?

For those who are too tempting to open the spoiler. Just a small psychological test.
It looks to from the way it's formulated that a drag of the story ensues. Often done in anime too so a cycle is back again in this series then.

That's fine provided more new elements engage. One I will assume will be attires and monsters along with setting.

Which is fine really however I want plain fights to be MORE EPIC! I shall leave it to that.

then 5 minutes later saying she's going to kill herself if Kirito dies so she better take her with him like an immature brat.
BIG BIG PROBLEM INDEED! I was shocked cause that implied that Kirito is to be responsible in keeping Asuna alive and his failure will be her dead.

Bad stress on Kirito. Really bad. That was totally not mature at all despite being older than Kirito being selfish seems to be a trait to her too.

Well, this episode's 1st part was nice, it gave some good romantic/funny moments. I laughed the part where Kirito starts running back like a certain hedgehog running from a pink person. I think the 2nd part was good, BUT WHO THE HELL PUTS IN A BOSS THAT GOD DAMN POWERFUL!? I mean just look at the boss's HP & how the setup the boss room(I'm aware SAO has OUTRAGEOUSLY strong bosss, but thats a bit much!), that is a monster, no a devil from the apocalypse + hell! Nice Kirito and Asuna fighting! Nice to see Klein, he always seems to make the mood funnier within the scene. I hate that they cut it off in the middle of the boss fight, that made me sad :( Now, where can I get my gut to stop yelling, "KIRITO IS GONNA DIE, HE IS GONNA F*CKING DIE!"

Heathcliff was looking pretty legendary this episode... a real badass. I still don't trust him though. At one point, the Skull Reaper seemed like it was avoiding him. I guess it could have been moving on to weaker players. But of course it doesn't help him seem any less suspicious. On the other hand, he did save Kirito and tried to save others.

Heathcliff was waay too cool, everyone while everyone else was making shit faces at the boss he wasn't afraid of the boss whatsoever. He just stood his ground against the boss with an expression that said "is that all?"

but i agree when you say it makes him look suspicious, it didn't seem like heathcliff even cared when his subordinates got annihilated in one blow while everyone else was just freaking out

if i remember correctly he got that coat custom made by "Ashley" a few floors back. But the thing is his "Wrym Coat" is very valuable and durable so it can last a quite a few floors before it becomes useless. There's so little to animate next episode before the volume ends? I wonder how the pacing for next week will be. I mean, they're doing a decent job adapting the not-so-easy-to- adapt novel. An interesting transition between two volumes in the middle of an episode eh.

That guy is comedic gold.

I can agree with everything he said.

So the last couple of episodes have been fairly decent. I'm really hoping it doesn't drop off a cliff again (I'm looking at you, ep. 10), but we'll see.

At the same time, this episode along with the last arc showcases how sometimes the script (adopted from the LN of course) can seem quite silly and immature. Granted, the author wrote this a decade ago and to the best of my knowledge didn't make mass edits before publishing it in 2009, but yes, there are some cringe-worthy lines. That whole "I'll never smile again," "I'm too worried about you to let you go to the frontlines," and "I'll commit suicide if you die"...urgh. Even taking their age into account, it's a bit melodramatic.

Props to the fishing and lovey-dovey scenes; just the right amount of time devoted to each part. Most importantly, I think this episode did the battle scene some justice. The menacing and threatening presence of the boss was conveyed quite nicely, not to mention I enjoyed the fast paced action. This would be one of the few parts where the anime exceeded the LN in my opinion. The only part that didn't make sense was how people are still dressed like random goons even though they're supposed to be as high leveled as Asuna and Kirito. That and how they panicked like a bunch of newbs when they're supposed to be seasoned veterans.

Oh, and can this series just not have CGI, ever?

Lol he says everything that most people are scared to say.....their romance is the most rushed and random thing....i mean i bear with the slice of life/ over the top romance then when action comes it has a bunch of still frame shots -_-
The point of everything should be to frickin clear the game and recently every since he's been with Asuna he acts like a freakin baby since when does he get scared like this?? He use to be calm and collected. At least the guild leader has the intention of beating the game. The teenage romance is so over the top. Kirito was better a solo player were he took clearing the game seriously but nah he rather hear Asuna talk about them getting old together....girl get your act together this is a game
