Holy shit! So Ray is Isabella's actual son that she gave birth to? Meaning that Isabella is Ray's real mother? Didn't see that coming. What a twist!

How is that 4 year olds here are smarter than typical harem protagonist?
Don and Gilda were annoying and ruined episodes 5-6 for me, Emma and Krone were hard to bear at times. Norman and Ray as well as other characters were fine but I didn't really bonded with them. Pleasing soundtrack and interesting story. Good show overall.

Nice anime I can say. So Isabella know basically all, also that youngest children stay with her has also part of the plan.

Also, talking about Isabela and her past, I can think: What happened if one of those babies born "unhealthy". I mean, some mental disorder (like paralisys, etc) or with body deformations: like siamese twins, etc.

Ok. With this kind of final I want to read manga and wait until second season.

My naive heart was hoping till the last moment to see Norman alive and well. They haven't shown us what he saw in the room Isabella took him to, but he looked surprised by whatever he saw when he entered, and not particularly scared. I don't know if there is going to be a second season or Norman's fate is explicitly explained in the manga, but I really hope either way he would survive somehow. We also didn't get more info about "the one" who only eats super intelligent kids, or the guy who sent all the books with the morse code. That's why we really need a second season. It was a very enjoyable show, though. Plus, I can't believe Isabella is Ray's biological mother and all she cared about when she thought he set himself on fire was to protect his brain, so it would be edible! What a heartless bitch!

Oh my gosh! The plot twist of Ray being Mom's son was insane. I can't believe most of them managed to escape! Mom looks about a decade younget when she lets her hair down. You have to give the writers credit for showing children are smart too. Gotta check out the manga now.

Was thinking, couldn't Isabella have joined them and run with them to help them xD
but, well, unless she gets deemed as useless she can help the children left in the hope that they'll come back for them eventually~

quite the finale. but out of all episodes, the last two and episode 1 were probably the best in terms of tension and attention grabbing

I'm probably one of not many that didn't like that one.

I LOVED the first episode. That totally got me hooked on the series, yet the anime don't stay that way. (which bums me because I really liked the premise) It felt like everything in the story was delivered on a plate to us, nothing was hiding from the beginning. The story is predictable and not enjoyable at all (at least to me) Show me, don't tell me what is happening.
I never got to like any of the main characters except Norman and Isabella. The character growth (in two months I must say) wasn't that big when you know what they are facing. It was rushed. The story wasn't exploited enough for its potential. It would have been great if the character actually did give up at some point. The way Emma and Ray looked broken and depressed by the events gave me hope that maybe the anime had what it takes. But nope, it was just a trick.

I do like the fact that it's an anime about farming humans for demons and that the moms are the one to bring children in the farms, so there must not be a lot of them. As isabella said, it's for surviving. Humans aren't that common anymore, something happened in the past. They never showed Norman's death or his body. He is a shadow/illusion at the end of the story so maybe he is still alive. That would be surprising because what do they do with boys? they never explicitly shown us evidence that they lived more than 12 years. Yet how do they get women to be impregnated? I will still watch the second season (or spoil myself searching for my answers somewhere because I honestly care more about the world than the kids who escaped it.)

So yeah, 5/10 for me. but a 10/10 for the first episode.

Every anime made me anxious so it was difficult to watch. The animation, the characters and the plot were phenomenal. I'm happy the children survived. 10/10
I was so scared that mom was going to cut the rope Emma was hanging on. I'm glad Emma and the other kids made it.

This anime completely opened another perspective of the human race as social beings. Not only the unbreakable friendship, but also the huge determination they had. A huge willing to survive together, to lead a team, family, and what possible outcomes would we receive if we don't give up on our determination.

Despite all the emotionally intense plot twists, I would consider this anime is really AMAZING!

I would rate this a 9/10 <3 Kudos to the author and animation studio

Having just binged this show, I can't believe I haven't watched it before now.

The protagonists were all great, even Poundshop Sasuke. They all brought different qualities to the group in order to help escape the compound. Shinobu from Demon Slayer and Kohaku from Dr Stone have serious competition for Waifu of the Year in Emma.

Isabella is one of the best written antagonists I've seen in a while. Whilst she was a pretty horrible person, she obviously cared for the children and if given the choice, she wouldn't have put them to their deaths. She seemed genuinely happy that they could do what she couldn't and escape.

Her actions are obviously motivated by the really shitty dystopian world and setting. She was either given the choice to effectively become a slave in order to raise children for food, or die as a 12 year old. I think her actions are relatable and understandable. However, it doesn't excuse her behaviour and purposefully deceiving the children in order for them lead a blissfully ignorant, happy life to improve the quality of the "meat". Not to mention putting Sister Krone to her death.

All in all a great series. 9/10 for me.

It was quite good. This anime is almost like a metaphor of what actually happens with farm animals. I was a bit anxious to watch after that first episode but it turned out fine. And I am glad they escaped but also upset that Norman the person who planned all this wasn't there. Well I hope he survived since his death is never really shown and also because I personally found him more interesting and likeable then Ray or Emma. Anyways I think S2 might shed more light on this and the whole demon/monster thing.

Wow. This show had an awesome (creepy/thrilling) first episode and started strong. Through the middle it slowed a bit, but these last few episodes made it finish strong. Ray being Isabella's actual son was quite a surprise, and revealing that gave us a little bit of her humanity. It ended up being a much better show than I anticipated, and gave it a 9/10. I'm looking forward to season two!

This was a fuckin' GOOD episode. Going into this knowing it's an adaptation of an ongoing manga with a second season on the way, I anticipated your stereotypical, run-of-the-mill anime retardation, but this was such a satisfying finale it could end here and that would not negatively impact my feelings on it whatsoever.

Isabella got some much-needed characterization in the final moments, the sort that really elevated this show to high tier. In the end, even the crazy villains drew sympathy and understanding from me.

I don't know. I feel like I'm overrating a lot of shit lately and with this show in particular I'm inflating my rating, especially with all the naysayers and manga readers talking about how poor of an adaptation it, but... I didn't have many issues with it. It was a consistently enthralling mystery horror-thriller with a strong sense of supernatural wonder. I love the setting, the central trio is lovely, the OST impeccable, and it's devoid of that over the top, cheesy anime bullshit that really weighs down a lot of shows I otherwise loved recently (Kanata no Astra, I'm looking at you). It had that Shinsekai Yori supernatural, nearly post-apocalyptic vibe but without drowning the audience in entire episodes of exposition, and I'll tell you I fuckin' loved Shinsekai Yori.

Yeah, to hell with it, I loved this. If it really didn't do the manga justice, I might just well start from the top with that.

Omg what a great series, can't wait for S2.

Please don't tell me Norman is actually dead, why did she take him into that room, we never saw him die. Please let Norman return also.

Also Ray is Isabella's biological son :o surprised she didn't aid their escape more especially since she once tried to escape herself, she really embraced her role as Mama.

Story was amazing and had a lot of plot twists. I'm looking forward to season 2.

Seeing Mom and her flashbacks. She was the one who willingly gave up and lost hope but Emma had hope and never wanted to give up. That's one thing that Mom never had and that's why she willingly gave in.

Though this was a high section of the manga, the overall season of this felt rushed or at the very least not paced methodically. The art and style impressed me and though for the most part the series looked on model and there wasn't anything in this season that required animation cut splendor the directing really lacked. I'd say the first half was very solid but started to slip around episode 4. I'm also watching as a manga reader and though it'd been a while since I read the manga to watching, lots of scenes and add ons really sucked tension and felt randomly placed. Maybe I am too much of a sucker of detail but honestly the trio not being an emphasis as much as the push for Emma and Norman was beyond weird, the super silent scenes where thoughts were viewed in perspective were just blank slates, and making Krone out to be stupid with the speaking out loud syndrome fucking bewildered me. I obviously went back to the manga and reread this entire arc because really it's not that long and just blanked at how things were cut and pasted around. The flow in the manga is steps above and a much more beautiful experience.

Kinda upset at it all, yeah some scenes were great. They hit the bullseye on stuff like the voice cast and the atmosphere for a good cut but the story and build up aka the key focus of this arc is really broken here. Maybe I'll raise the score after more thought but the potential lost, lowered this for me.

Wow this ended up being so damn good. Great characters, the premise isn't something new but was done pretty well, and it was thrilling to watch. Not a single boring moment despite lack of action. A real thriller down there.

9/10. For a short anime this is great. It doesn't invite something new but it does everything absolutely right and it ended with a great conclusion which at the same time sets things up for a sequel.

What a great ride. Got emotional when Isabella's flashback was shown, imo she's a really well-written antagonist.

This anime is the first one that I actually watched all of its episodes within a day. Some events are kinda predictable for me but overall it has a good storyline. Characters and OST are great. Animation is alright. I personally had no problems with the pacing throughout the whole anime, though it could be because I didn't read the manga.

9.5/10. Looking forward to the next season!

I can't believe what I saw. If you think about it. These kids planned an escape most adults couldn't think of. All these games they were playing all of it was actual practice. It also blows my mind how Phil as an 4 year old kid understood what was going on around him without someone explaining it to him.

I know it's sad for the younger kids but at the same times it's better for Emma and the rest if they leave them for now. This guarantees them the highest chance of survival.

I didn't expected them to be able to cross the cliff. Even more surprising was the way they did it. I feel Ray, I had the same face expression. Felt pretty unreal. Nice touch when Ray was talking to an imagined Norman. Hopefully in the next season we will hear what happened to him. That's definitely one of the bigger questions.

Nice touch at the end when we got to see Isabelles past. I'm still not a fan of her, but I know deep down in her she loves every single of the kids. I think everyone here knew one kid has had to be hers but Ray? Really? That was a nice jawdropper for me. At least we now know where Ray knows this melody from he was humming in the last episode before he talked with Emma.

Isabelle seemed to be happy Emma, Ray and the rest made it out. But what will await for them out there? A lot of other questions are still unanswered. Isabelle with open hair looks like a different person :o

Overall I really enjoyed this show. The whole atmosphere, character design, the music, the twists, everything fit so well together. With that I definitely look forward for the next season in 10 months. Thanks for the nice ride CloverWorks :)

I still think Norman is still alive.

It's true that only women become moms...but how they make children without men?

Also the fact there was no demon and he got in one of those rooms instead of going forward mmmh.

So in the end mama isn't evil per se, she just obeys to the laws of the world because she doesn't know better.
She's a loving mother for her children, but she has to keep giving them up eventually, that's excruciating...

Looking forward for more.
I'll have to pick up the manga again...

9/10 for me.

Orphans, livestock, trying to escape, this show concept does remind me with Owari no Seraph ep 1, with vampire changed with.. devils(?). There isn't any (possibly) op characters, just kids with strategies to make things interesting and some surprises. Even now I don't think Norman is dead, you know the typical when they didn't show mc death on screen, they lived somewhere. lol

Entertaining show, but it didn't amaze me. 7/10.

It was good, not great. Three things made this a 7/10 and not an 8 or even 9.
1 - rushed storytelling/escape planning. More then once the planning was told in conversations in stead of shown in detail. Yeah Ray made these devices, oh yeah and he knew about the demons all along. Wait what? Some of the escape plans didn't even got my attention. Just rushed. Then again the series as a whole was pretty slow paced. Weird. And at the end most kids knew and nobody told? That was told in like a minute like it was nothing.
2 not once they even contemplate on killing mom? It's not like they have much to lose. They don't have to do it but why not even bring it up. In the last couple of episodes I was almost screaming at my screen. KILL HER ALREADY!
3 They are 11 years old and they are this smart? kids these age aren't even able to comprehend the situation, let alone be aware of moms knowledge just by observing. Even 4 year old at this last ep was like, alright let's do this shit. I know it's fiction and in this universe kids might be this smart but it bothered me slightly.

Besides that. Great show, great animation, great characters. I'm just happy there's a sequel. Can't wait to see what's behind the gates.

As an anime viewer I enjoyed this anime immensely. Even though the concept isn't anything new or groundbreaking its such a breath of fresh air out of the recent animes we've been getting. I'm not surprised manga readers will have dissatisfaction with the adaptation but from a perspective of an anime viewer the show manage to tie in and end everything satisfyingly.

Overall 9/10, I might just jump into the manga just bc I wanna know if Norman is alive or not ))):

Agree with you on point 1 and 3, especially with all the preparation for the plan "yes I know how to do that" and then we are not actually shown/told how they did it (I am thinking especially about the tracking device - I thought about severing the ear from the get go though).

Also that Ray was Mom's child I figured that out at some point, and then forgot about that, so when that was confirmed it was a nice moment. And that thing about infantile amnesia served its purpose for this revelation as well, not just to explain how Ray knew about the farms (kind of Deus Ex Machina for this point, but hey).

Still, if Moms to be give birth (I assume) once in their lifetime, isn't this going to be ineffective in the long run? Or are there breeding facilities? Nightmarish scenario in any case.

I gave the show 7/10 as the many plans were very convoluted and at some point I lost track of who was betraying whom, but the horror elements were effective and I really liked the relationship between the children, especially between older and younger kids.
