| Going to episode 76 and 77 of saiki's episode discussions. I guess even in gag shows like this shippers still exist. I wont get my hopes up cause A: teruhashi is kind of irredeemably self centered and B: I fully expect if anything developed from cold as ice saiki anyway it'd wind up being a punchline anyway where she would lose interest immediately, cause saiki exists just to suffer. | Tfw Cardcaptor Sakura has a better, more conclusive romance than series dedicated to that genre. That ending would be a really easy one to underrate. What can I say? For a long time I was planning on weighing Cardcaptor Sakura against Sailor Moon, but the further I watched the more it became clear that Cardcaptor Sakura stands on its own and isn't restrained by what may be considered the roots of the genre. Despite superficial similarities, each series has its own goals and approaches to those goals, and although I think I have a fairly clear preference, I feel that I am forced to admit that that preference is based in taste rather than in quality, because qualitatively speaking they are equals with different strengths and weaknesses. Both franchises are very strong for different reasons. Cardcaptor Sakura was much more slice-of-lifey than I expected, perhaps as slice-of-lifey as the show could be without jumping from its primary genre into something like Flying Witch. Sakura's relationships with her family and friends were clearly and continually developed throughout the series and given importance because, in the end, Sakura's coming of age is the core of the story rather than some grander narrative or theme. In this regard it is less ambitious and more subdued than Sailor Moon, but its simplicity and greater consistency gives it a smooth elegance that sets its identity apart in a subtly compelling way. In fact, in terms of a simple story executed well, the only equal I can think of in anime is Tatami Galaxy. In retrospect I feel like there's a lot of stuff in the show that would be easy to get hung up on, but in the end those minor snags feel very small in comparison to the whole. They don't hold back the series in the sightest. It was a very pleasing experience. Very light, and very satisfying. I'd definitely rec it. |

| It's just so lovable, the characters all have a little screw loose, makes for great comedy. It also doesn't fall into the trap so many of these rom-coms do, where they blow up trivial matters into end of the world proportions, like Love Live. It's kinda like Yuru Yuri in tone, but isn't cute girls doing cute things and a little more Nichijou hyperness. Has some fluffy sentimentally for that edgy heart also. Think I'm gonna rewatch it lol. |
