Surprised me. Said good bye last way in a way I interpreted wrong lol. Thought that they would be focusing on Lena and Rita more now. Great episode nonetheless. Looking forward to next week.

Nah, this episode was almost entirely anime-original. It was basically an expansion of a couple of paragraphs from volume 2. I don't think they'll cover the epilogue of volume 1 in this season. They'll probably leave it for the next season, which would be a better thing to do.
So what is the last episode going to be about? Also anime original?

My guess is that they'll cover the last bits of Volume 1 before the epilogue and some of Volume 2 with the ending being

If the episode is a direct continuation from the end of this episode, they might adapt a certain battle from volume 2. If not, then they might adapt the very end of chapter 7 from the first volume (since that scene is still unadapted). Or they might end up doing both, lol. There is another scene from volume 2 that they could also adapt for a more cliffhanger ending.

I think they will at least adapt Epilogue 1. No way they can adapt a full 21 minutes episode with the rest of volume 1 non-epilogue parts, I already wait for 10 episodes so I really hope they adapt Epilogue 1.

Ah crap, didn't see that ending coming. Rest in Peace, Fido. Absolutely phenomenal direction by the way, those last 7-8 minutes after Avid was just so sweet and ultimately heartbreaking. Also, it's really cool to see how they've been handling the two ED themes, they really do fit in everywhere.

Things were going too well, how many times do I've fall for episodes like this xD? Got to feel for Shin in particular.

Shin taking out the stranded 86 was quite heavy too. I seriously thought he'd given up everything there. Raiden's reaction to the Legion summed up my feelings perfectly. Man, it sure was nice to see Shin and the group take it easy for a bit. Dat scene of the massive group of Legions crossing the bridge was quite something.

Just one more episode to go now, it's going to be a tough wait until S2 comes around! Apparently, it' going to be Major-centric episode next. Well, I was just starting to get curious so it's perfect lol.

Interesting to hear that this episode was basically anime-original. That's hard to believe, especially since this episode seemed to fit so naturally. It was nice seeing the 86 enjoying relatively carefree, relaxing lives. The end of the episode though......man that was rough. Fido has really seen and been through it all.

Absolutely tremendous stuff from the director and staff for this episode, and continued brilliance with this show. A-1 keeps on nailing the little things well to enhance the overall experience to such a high degree, easily the best adaptation they've ever done. The post-credit sequence of Fido's memories captured through the lens only to build to that cliffhanger was perfection in so many ways. Original stuff can add so much if it makes sense, and it sure did with this episode and show as a whole. So much personality and care with the new content here makes the show feel more engaging and personal than even the LNs so major props to the staff and the director for such smart vision.

Genuinely lifted my mood after I was a bit stressed with the Christian Eriksen news today.

Man right in the feels. The first half or so was filled with melancholy. At the same time it felt a little freeing. F in the chat for Fido tho... Can't go a single episode without our squad getting in battle. Still debating whether they (besides Shin) will have some sort of "main character" plot armor for the next while. Also next ep will we get to see what happened or be back with Lena? Who knows.

of course it is the ep without lena that is the best one yet ......
i still cant get over how good that ed song is , hits hard everytime . the op on the other hand i started skipping after 3 eps.

fido's death hit harder than any character's death yet . infact his death gave even more weight to any character that has died yet . i am reading that this was almost all anime original content , if so then i applaud . A monumental effort in both direction and writing.

seeing that there is only 1 ep left , i am guessing they are gonna end it on a cliffhanger for cour-2 . the conclusion for this cour has already been given through this ep . it would really be overdoing it if they give another ep of this type of content .....

Another fantastic episode!

The definition of bittersweet is today’s episode. It was really nice to see the gang living their new nomadic, slow paced lives. It was so wholesome to see Shin smiling and laughing, and I had a dumb grin on my face watching those five together for the journey.

Of course, they couldn’t get TOO cozy, as they are still in Legion territory, but luckily Shin has his superhuman sense of where they’re at, so that helps.

The highlight of this episode was obviously the montage of videos that Fido had a collection of. It was touching to see how Spearhead treated Fido like one of their own. It was very sad to watch the ups and downs of those in the montage, from the gang having fun to witnessing Anju’s breakdown. It was a beautiful way to add to the sentimentality of all the members of Spearhead.

The only part of the episode that wasn’t anime-original was the very last scene. Poor Fido :(

I’d imagine the last episode of this cour will primarily be Lena focused. It’s sad that we’re nearing the end of the 1st cour, and I already know the wait for the 2nd cour is gonna feel like forever…

Definitely my favourite episode this season!!!
It was just so heart warming and it felt like it gave a decent amount of closure to all the events that led up till now.
The last little bit of the episode was absolutely amazing, from the perspective of Fido it felt like you got all angles of life within the story.

Not sure if this week has been really heavy for me with Coco Kaichou's graduation announcement or what, but immediately broke down into tears seeing the others with their sideglances, and the question being asked "will you go to the other side alone?". It's unfair that this season is ending so quickly. It's somber with an episode left.

Fido is an important buddy.

Another episode worthy of a chef's kiss. The anime original scenes really helped. The directing and subtleties continue to blow me away and I'm tempted to give this series a 10/10 right now considering I genuinely enjoy a tad bit more than the LN as of currently. The post credits scenes with Fido's montage was so well done, feels like those old wholesome to heartfelt family videos and stuff, ngl, and then that cliffhanger, just ooof.
Plus, it's nice to see Shinei emotionally loosened up after the events from the previous episode. I'm glad that depth in his character was implemented so well.
The studio and staff TRULY care about this series a lot.

This episode was actually good, ok I like that. The outside world is interesting and Fido's experience was one of a kind, didn't look plastic, but that was a given due to 86's Girls' Last Tour moments.

Interested to see where this goes and ends off with.

Noooo, not Fido.. That ending was the last thing I could have expected. I liked the post credit scene because it shows how things evolved in 86, and how many people went down because of the Republic. Just like Raiden said, it feels like Shin is just ready to die since there's nothing left for him to do, but he also knows they can't go too far or escape the Legion for too long.

I wonder how much longer they'll last before they're caught or killed. I think the next episode will give us Lena's POV since it's the last episode.

I hate that this is ending and that we'll have to wait a couple of more months before we get the next season, but damn the A-1 Pictures outdid themselves and I look forward to more of it in the next season.

Once again the staff is doing an amazing job, not only are they adapting the LN content accurately with beautiful direction and detail but they're also adding original scenes that elevate the LN material.

I loved the first half and seeing Shin smiling for once. They've all been through a lot, but they're free from the Republic. They're still in enemy territory of course, and the danger is always imminent but seeing them fishing, having a bath, joking with each other and sitting around the fire was heartwarming.

Fido's death was incredibly sad man, he has witnessed their whole lives in the 86 territory, they have all confided in him and he's been there for them all this time. Shin had an especially strong bond with him. It was really sad to see him go honestly. Shin carved a piece of him to carry with him, continuing his sad duty as the Undertaker and taking them all to their final destination T_T

The animation was also great, I admired the water detail, the scenery in general and the direction as well. Kudos to A-1!

Come on man, don't do this to me. This was being such a nice and relaxing episode until that emotional montage from Fido's POV that ended up being his life flashing before his eyes. So, what exactly was Fido? I didn't expect him to be part of Shin's life since he was a happy child and Annette's friend.

At least that montage gave us some super adorable Kurena moments <3. She truly is best girl! By the way, I didn't expect to see Kurena getting naked in that flower field xD.

This anime tries to be so dramatic... And I can't get enough of it. The production on the last 2 episodes is just simply amazing. Who would've thought, that it could change so drastically in such a short time, from a confusing series with decent art style and plot, to a literal masterpiece. I feel the connection between all the 86, I could feel their emotions, I could feel their thought process, I could feel their wishes, their regrets, their mourning. Everything was shown in perfect style. This is the type of show that makes me get obsessed with it and crave new episodes each week.

This has the quality and style necessary to become one of my favorite series. If this keeps going on, of course, which might be hard for the Studio, but if they do manage to pull it off, then that's really crazy, and I'll make sure to give it the appreciation it demands :)

I'm looking forward to the last episode of this season.

A different episode than the usual. Shin's crew was shown having their peace of mind for a couple of days. Little tasks like having fuel enough to take their bath seemed like nothing, compared to what they went through. But it was just a matter of time until the next Legion showed up.

Vladilena wasn't here in any moment, but I hope we'll see more of her in the next episode. Maybe it will be a rescue one. Let's see!

Really good, solid episode.

It seems all the content here is anime-original, since volume 1 of the LN is already over.

If I'm being honest, I don't really get emotional when I watch this show. But, yeah, I cannot help but be blown away by the visuals and OST week after week.

That part with Anju breaking down from Fido's POV tho... such a nice addition.

Wow, fantastic episode. I actually enjoy watching these slice-of-life/daily interactions among the squad members more than any of the action scenes. This episode really highlights how much the squad members have been through together. I wouldn't have minded if this entire first season (or a later one) was focused on Shin meeting the other 86 when he was young and his journey to joining the Spearhead squadron instead, but I guess that's too much to ask for lol. Or maybe we'll have more glimpses of his past in a future season, if it exists in the novel.

But nooooo, Fido! I'm seriously in love with the directing of this show. The scenes from Fido's POV were mostly wholesome and funny, but the sad moments sprinkled in between got my mood in all sorts of places. Hope that one clip didn't just foreshadow Theo's death. Watching Anju cry is always sad. And interesting that there's a shot of young Shin with his brother and Annette. And it broke my heart with the last scene of Fido breaking down. Never thought I'd feel sad about a drone. The OST was perfect as well. This is definitely gearing up to be my AOTS, looking forward to how they're going to wrap the season up with the last episode next week.

Props to the anime team, I think this is all 100% anime original and it complement the story perfectly. The shots with the fossil in the zoo are great and the placement of the song are on point as always.

Fido's part was also an amazing way to close the episode and show it's death. I really have to give it to A-1 for this adaptation.

when I complained about how poor the characterisation was, and then said there's no way they could ever fix it unless they dedicated an entire episode to characterisation - I never actually expected them to actually do it.

This is probably the best episode so far. No dumb racism that doesn't make any sense. No stupid fights with their poor direction. No random BS that is never explained - just character and world building.

Honestly, hats off to them for surprising us with such a good episode. As much as I would have liked them to have crafted a bit more character development rather than just adding more characterisation, what they did is above and beyond any levels of characterisation we've seen so far. For the first time, I finally was able to understand the main 5 characters, their motivations, and their place within the story perfectly.

My only gripe is more of a personal one, I feel like the music at the end detracted from the recorded footage. I would have preferred it to either be entirely silent, or maybe a quiet piano playing underneath. The music was just so loud and showy and I don't think it matched the tone of the flashbacks.

ngl I really hated that.
not everything has to be connected. I liked the idea that Fido slowly gained sentience as he slowly watched all his human friends die off. But suggesting that Anette's father may have designed him and he somehow coincidentally got reunited with Shin just kind of ruins it for me. Coincidental storytelling is just the worst
