None of the villains in SAO have been memorable or well written. Even Kayaba has a lot of holes in his writting that was almost completely shoehorned in after Aincrad ended and nobody cared anymore (the thing with his girlfriend this season?). I think one of SAO's biggest faults really is the way they absolutely don't know how to handle antagonists... Although you are right, this rapist duo really was the last straw. |

It is easy to tell the difference between blind hate and genuine criticism, those that blindly hate are the ones who actually do not watch the show - even when this argument is used against those who blindly hate, it's stupid because as stated before, they aren't watching it in the first place. When it comes to these type of people (no criticism, not even watching), in a lot of cases, the only way to win is to just realize that these are baseless, uninformed comments made only to make others feel bad and don't follow any logic at all because the person just didn't care about being logical. Is it just so hard to ignore these type of people for you? Remember, just because you're using an argument against someone illogical, doesn't make your reasoning logical. A bad argument is still a bad argument in this context. Another important thing to remember, if people actually have critiques and good reasoning but express their opinions in a way you dislike, then this doesn't make their criticism and reasoning invalid. Everyone has their reasons for watching something, a person watching something they dislike isn't a problem worth your time or care, giving it attention means you feel the need to do so. While I don't agree with everything that dude said, the main point he made was, "Shoehorning rape into a story for shock purpose only is the sign of a bad writer." - and pointing this out doesn't make him or anyone an "SJW" (which seems to be a popular form of damage control from Goblin Slayer fans). An SJW would make the point that this somehow promotes rape culture, and rape in fiction should never exist, which are arguments that only a minority have made in Goblin Slayer and in this episode 10 of SAO: Alicization. You're certainly right about your argument but I always have to wonder why people that disliked Sao are still watching a franchise they disliked before instead dropping. That's not just with sao but series out there where the person clearly isn't liking the content but continues to watch it either way. To me those are just masochists (there's no other wording to this tbh) because in no way I'm going to watch or read something that I'm not enjoying, instead I'll just drop the series and dedicate my time with content that I actually like. |

| WOW, what a tone shift; and a pretty shitty one too. Going from boring academy things to unapologetic rape was WAY to drastic. What's with this series and making most of the human villains rapists like holy shit dude. Can you think of a better way to make me dislike your villains? Also, plot finally moved after like 5 episodes. Why did it have to happen in this ONE!? OUT OF ALL THE TIMES TO MOVE THE PLOT you know what I'm done. This is SAO alright. |

| Wow yeah, that was just gross and completely unnecessary. It was entirely out of place and out of touch. As much as I wish I could defend it as "if you felt disgusted, then that's a good thing because that's the point" or "harsh violence is what was needed to break the spell," that was so extreme to the point that it became ridiculous and alienating. There are so many better ways of having that climactic stand against the Taboo Index without something like that, especially since we've already had that whole shtick back in season 1. The character development that stemmed from it was great and a necessary step, but the end doesn't justify the means. I'm not against SAO having its dark moments to spice it up, but this was just poor. P.S. Man, this thread is cancer. |
