| While I do hate Shinji, I can understand why he is fucked up. His whole life was literally a mess. If I was in that situation, I would have broken many times. But still, I can't stand wimpy males. Shinji is just tip of the iceberg. Worst are those fucktards from harem series. I don't hate them because they don't act. I hate them because they allowed that kind of situation to happen in first place. And honorable mention is Yukki, who is just a pussy. But oh well, Mirai Nikki was one of first anime I ever watched, and first time I encountered Yandere type girl, so my attention was drawn away from him to Yuno. |

| I'll have to agree with not really liking the male lead from Accel World but I felt that Shinji from NGE was a very believable character and really added to the show. I also like the wimps that develop as the show progresses like Renton from Eureka 7 |

| Shinji's life was a mess obviously he's going to act that way plus he's 14.. He's not going to be all "OmGZ badazzz!!! Yea!!!!" At that age.. But then he started to change and develop.. He grew more confident and became more brave to the point he was fighting angels no problem and made friends.. That went to hell when Gendo auto piloted his Eva and put his friend in the hospital In the rebuilds he's a much more improved If you're talking about End of Evangelion Shinji well.... I can't defend him.. He was a bad character in that movie |

Also people seem to forget that wimpy =/= bad character. Now if you're talking about harem or some boy-meets-girl-and-changes-because-of-girl type of romance, you'll notice that beside her chara design, most of times not much effort is put into the girl either : just like the male lead she/they usually fit into a certain archetype and her/their character is rarely ever given any more depth or layers. That kind of lazy writing is a problem that unfortunately affects characters of all genders :/ |
