Lol man, you're not alone on that matter. I watch SAO for the sweet cute romance, I don't watch it for the MMORPG aspect, but that was what I expect at first. As for the characters, well, I agree with that as well, but for most of the time I don't really care. It is still a subjective matter though.

This is what I wanted to address earlier, but forgot to. Simple doesn't mean that it's bad. There are a lot of really good simple anime, be it slice of life, comedy, or pure action. Of course, deep and complex story is good too, but you cannot compare a simple and relaxing anime to a deep and profound ones. It all boils down to personal preference. People who dislike deep and complex story will not find it to be good at all, and vice versa.

I know, but most of the people out there are working really hard. There are mangaka who cannot write well and lack talent, but still work really hard. You cannot say that they didn't work hard for it.

Well that's fine and all.

While I do agree that both FT and SAO are badly written, that is still subjective. Let's say, what if that was the author's original intention of making Natsu wins through the power of friendship? Clearly, there are a lot of convenient ways of powering up, like new techniques and such, that makes me wonder why didn't the author takes that path. Maybe the author wanted to pass across the "friendship" theme and messages to his viewers? If that is the case, then it is not bad writing on his part, it is just us not appreciating what the author has to offer.

Of course we can also look at things objectively, like plot holes, which no matter what you cannot deny. Objectively speaking I don't think that FT or SAO had any plot holes, as far as I remember. There may be a lot of plot convenience, but whether it is bad or not is subjective.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
