Do Star Wars fans who dress up as Jabba the Hutt and wait in front of the ticket-sale with camping equipment for a week when a new Star Wars movie comes out and who happen to go to the cinema for other movies regulary too make you feel bad about liking movies?

I don't give a s..., and neither should you. If someone dresses up like a monkey, gets a chibi tattoo on his forehead and randomly screams out japanese mispronounced words and think's he or she is the hipster number one, then sir, unless you're that person, are not the moron, even tho you could happen to stand next to him by accident at a convention or something.

Interesting question.

I spose I'd be embarrassed if someone associated with me in public bringing hentai mags, but then again I'd be embarrassed if it was regular porn too. So for me it's not about the anime part.

I say to each their own. Let them like what they like, to the degree they like it.
I really like anime, so I'd have no trouble associating with anime fans, why be embarrassed about what you like? If they're annoying, then they're annoying, and the anime part doesn't matter in the equation.

Actually, I kind of wish more people would like to stand out and not care so much, even cosplay. Life's boring when you keep yourself in the dark ya know?

Honestly I had never even heard/read (mostly read) about this subject of weaboos like yesterday...but I have a simular opinion on the matter with :

No, Weaboos do not make me embarrassed about liking anime. I like anime a lot and so do Weaboos, we just have different ways of expressing our interests. I have yet to meet a Weaboo but I bet they aren't all annoying people, and if people associate me with a Weaboo for liking anime then they can think all they want, because they never actually took the time to actually know me.

seriously NBD!

I'm already embarrassed to tell people that I like anime. Can't say that I've met any weeaboos in real life but I probably wouldn't want to associate with them if they take their obsession to the max and try to force it on other people. You don't see people who like skiing, or playing hackeysack or idk some other random shit trying to get people who aren't interested in it to like it, so why should weeaboos be allowed to do it? I mean I like anime a pretty good amount but some people are quick to condemn it as is without people giving them more reason to disdain it or criticize those who like it.

Example: At my school there's an anime/Japanese culture fan club. In the fall in order to "recruit" new members they stood on the commons in cosplay shouting and giving out candy or something. The vast majority of people walked by giving confused looks or just avoided them. I'm not quite that enthusiastic about anime, but I'm pretty sure that if I told any students who were walking past that day that I liked it, they would group me in with those other students and assume I did the same things they did. I'm all for people having freedom to do their own thing, that's just not my thing.Usually, no understanding=instant bias.
Harems don't exist in America. If one guy is constantly surrounded by beautiful girls, then he's probably the gay friend.

I don't get embarrased.
But i do get afraid that people might think i'm just like those people if they find out that i'm watching anime.

It does actually, being asian and growing up in a city with a rather large asian population meant that it was a fairly normal thing to have an interest in anime as many, many, people I knew who were asian did so. You did get your occasional anime freak but it they often tended to be a lot less tame than the ones we're mentioning. However, encountering these "weeboos" once I moved to a different town during my high school years really disgusted me. I really didn't and still don't understand why these non-asian individuals I met had to act so utterly idiotic when it came to anime and Japan. Hell, some of these guys actually started to "worship" me when they saw me since they thought I was Japanese (I'm Chinese). They also made everyone I knew automatically think that any who watches anime is one of them, even though watching it is just as normal as watching whatever is on tv, so yes, they are embarrassing. And they all looked like this too:

I don't mind really.... Except there was this white fat kid (no racial stereotype intended, just describing him) with long hair who had this weird laugh. He would also bring a typewriter (yes a legit typewriter) to class to type his notes. All I heard everyday was clack clack clack.

And then when there was any free time available he would ask everyone around him about Naruto (he was a Narutard) even though they all say that they don't watch it everyday. lmao.... so annoying. I didn't want to let my friends know that I watched anime at all since it could mean that I was associated with him on any level.

Even if I explain to my friends that Naruto is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to anime they are skeptical.

To 99% of the general population there are only 2 types of anime:Naruto type anime that are retarded and meant for 6 year olds and hentai.

So whenever I'm talking about anime with one of the very few otaku-mates and someone overhears, they always say something like "Oh you guys watch hentai? You guys are fucking sick."

So to relate that back to the white kid, everyone thinks he is a fucking megaperv when he probably hasn't the balls to even google "boobs". So if I tried to talk to him then it would mean I was a megaperv too (which I'm not...).

IT'S SO FRUSTRATING D:<

Not really, unless they start bombarding me with questions about which yaoi or yuri I like, and if I've seen the new episodes of anime I don't have interest in. During class, there's two people who stand up and answer questions when the teacher calls out to them, and they've labeled themselves as 'Students number 6 and 13'. It's weird, especially when others don't want to talk to me because the two of them are asking me questions I can't answer.

People know I like anime, but I only have a small list of them, and I guess only liking one labels you as a 'weaboo' even if you don't act like one. There are far worse people who make anime their lives that dress up as characters all the time and shout out Japanese at whatever they do. Many people have even asked the principal if we could have a week where everyone at school has to dress up as a character or act like one....that is what caused majority of the non-anime watchers to offically hate 'weaboos', and it's really frustrating when I answer questions out loud related to my interests.

That would of driven me nuts. I mean I think typewriters look cool and all, but to bring one and class and use it to type notes, I think I would of hung myself.

Yes, you're clearly the bigger person for putting people down for liking an anime you don't, as opposed to him for opening enjoying something.

I once knew a boy at school who i think is was a Weaboo. He kept trying to suggest me Shojo anime (such as Ouran High School Host Club), dispite me not even mentioning or showing an interest in anime. He also kept asking me to go to a anime related site called Anipock. Again, i did not want to visit the site and i he kept asking me to visit it.

Because this boy was into anime, i did not want to openly admit i was into anime because i was afraid i would be associated with him. He made me feel so embarrassed about liking anime he put me off it for a long time. I only went back into it after i left that school and i would not have to be around him again.

I would be interested to know if you have had experiences with similar people. Especially if they made you feel bad about liking anime.

TWO GIRLS IN MY CLASS .... they listen to anime songs and watch anime with full volume during a lesson.. LIKE I CAN'T FOCUS ... she talks about anime 24/7 with friend during the lesson and they're plain annoying

Sort of, although I tend to just ignore them nowadays, they're wastes of physical space and on MAL it shows sometimes.

That being said, the word "weeaboo" is just an overblown, misused insult that some people use to project onto others from themselves, nothing special.

Yes. I make it a point not to talk about anime or video games in public irl. If someone tries to talk to me about these things in public, I tell them to shut the fuck up and ask them what is wrong with them. The reason for this is because I don't want to be associated with the undesirable people of either culture. Anime/video games are not high status for a reason.

whether you like it or not, as long as you like something, you're gonna be associated with every part of it, both good and bad. with that in mind, there's no point in arguing otherwise. if people think you're a filthy weaboo, then that's what you are. you're only hurting your case by saying anything. just ignore it and move on.

but really if you're one of those non-japanese guys that reveres japanese culture and scorns your own with no valid reason other than the cute girl on the screen told you so, then you're making it really easy for me not to acknowledge your existence.

I think I got into anime before the term "weaboo" was even coined. People are free to like whatever they want, and some will inevitably like or dislike something more than others. The hardcore fans don't shame me in any way. I'm usually like, "Yeah, I like anime." If someone has a problem with that, or choose to judge me based on some stereotype, they can kindly go eat themselves.
