A masterpiece, with real meaning and emotional impact, and that is spectacularly good in every regard (art & animation above all, but also story, voice acting, music, etc.).

10/10 for me is a master piece one must watch and is worth rewatching, like FMA Brotherhood or Gintama for example.

What would be the point of 10/10 meaning perfect if perfect can never be achieved? Instead i rate my animes by how much I enjoy watching them, and which ones I would recommend to my friends. 10/10 for me is not perfect, it's an anime I'll remember forever, for one reason or another, it's one I will rewatch someday (and I rarely rewatch something), and that I'd surely buy a fancy collector's edition, should the opportunity rise.

To me, 10/10 is perfect in terms of quality, humor, attractive/appealing appearances and the small things in general. It doesn't apply for every single anime out there if the humor or romance makes up for everything else, but if I loved every single episode, it's an automatic 10/10

In order for a series to get a 10 from me, it would really have to stand out from it's peers and have some sort of an emotional impact on me.

To me: 10/10 is:

-Rewatchable
-Memorable
-Great aesthetics
-Great story
-Great characters
-Great themes
-Flaws aren't enough to deter near-maximum enjoyment
-Great soundtrack

A 10/10 for me is something that:

1. Made me wish it hadn't ended

2. That I can't think of a (significant) way to improve it

If it misses either of those things generally it can only peak at a 9.

Rewatchability. If i watch an animu a year, or 5 or more from now and still feel roughly the same way then i think it deserves a 10.

I think the only ones that I've given a 10/10 to that aren't harem or ecchi are OreImo and SAO, but tbf those, especially the former and the latter depending on who you ask, can very easily pass as being of one or both of those genres. In fact, I don't know why OreImo isn't listed as a harem at the very least.

Of course, being from those two genres aren't required or anything, but honestly, the quickest way to my heart is through my pants and the kind of stuff that tends to get a 10/10 from me usually does that very well.

Mmm...I doubt I'll ever give a perfect score to something that takes itself too seriously, even if there's no room for comedy to begin with, like in Monster - where it would've worked against it heavily to have a bit of dumb humor here and there, but I still couldn't consciously give it above an 8 because it was too dark and serious for my tastes, even though I liked it, so things were basically rigged against it from the start. Things tend to be rigged against anything too serious from the start for me. I don't ever see myself giving a 10/10 to something that doesn't make me laugh or smile at some point.

So good comedy and good pantsu, pretty much

Quote from my profile:

"10: Works of apparent brilliance. These shows do not need to be perfect (there's no such thing), but they must plainly stand apart from their peers. These shows will have a message and present it in a way that is spectacularly entertaining, convention destroying, thought provoking, heart wrenching, or some or all of the above."
TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1) If Evangelion and Psycho-Pass are his only 10s, he probably also worships Tool and smells like cheesy puffs 2) Freudian psychosis =/= good writing 3) Moe blob art style is only ok in pure slice-of-life comedy 4) It's ok to enjoy shounen. Having fun is allowed 5) It is not ok to enjoy isekai (jk, it is, I just fucking hate it) 6) Creator breakdown =/= good writing 7) A story does not have to be wrapped up with a bow. Life is messy, why would a good story need to be tidy? 8) InuYasha is proto-Twilight 9) Ecchi CAN be good, but is almost always an abomination 10) If God is real, They allowed Super Kid to happen, so fuck Them

A 10/10 anime is not a perfect anime. It is a masterpiece anime. Masterpieces can be imperfect. When you watch an anime and go: This is everything anime is meant to be to me. Or- This is everything this genre is meant to be to me. Or- I think this anime is very special and an artist's best work.

I give 10/10 for that.

I think I get more comfortable with giving them as time goes on. Modifying if they didn't hold up over time. Because being memorable is also part of being a 10/10 masterpiece anime.

This is clearly the most objective way to figure out if it deserves a 10/10.

I don't try to be objective, I'm assuming full subjectivity when noting. I also think that we should use the full notation scale available, 10 is not a magical note which is only reserved for your one and only favorite, nor does it mean "perfect". It doesn't mean either that all your 10 rated anime are "ex aequo".

Main criteria is how is stuck with me. How much I wish to promote it, how much I think about it and how much it

I don't think "rewatchability" is THAT important, as it's quite tied with the style of the anime. A flashy anime with lots of cool sequences is more rewatchable that a drama for example

The idea behind it and how that idea resonates with me.
"Idea" being a vague construct in which many criteria flow into.
Basically a mix of the Messages each aspect of the anime conveys to me
(eg. art style, animation, story, authors intention, symbolism aso.).

So if i like the idea of an anime and the idea resonates with my own thoughts
to a high degree i rate it a 10.

Note: This rating method is very subjective and does not represent my oppinion on whether the anime overall is good or bad.

I'm of the mindset that an anime has objective aspects that everyone interprets in subjective ways. There's no single path to being well-made, and there's no single path to appeasing everyone: it's easy to say that a show should have interesting characters, but exactly how they're interesting can change wildly between shows and be interpreted differently between people.

That is to say, it's all opinion-based and means bugger all.

i am among those who rate an anime based on enjoyment overall and now that you mentioned, i think i'm the 91-100 type.
generally i give 10/10 to an anime that stays in my mind even long after finishing that.

10 doesn't mean perfect. It says right there on rating drop down menu , "10 - Masterpiece"
"In this world, wherever there is light – there are also shadows. As long as the concept of winners exists, there must also be losers. The selfish desire of wanting to maintain peace causes wars, and hatred is born to protect love."

I don't give out 10s nor 9s and my mean score is 3.5. I'll be honest with you, I didn't enjoy most of the anime I watched, I literally watched them to kill time and because of that sad approach to anime my interests in anime are now almost non-existent.

A 10/10 not only has to be nearly flawless or uncritiqueable beyond the most minor of nitpicks, but it has to make me feel to a really deep level.

A 9/10 or high 8/10 has one or both of those to a great degree, but either has just enough flaws or barely misses that emotional resonance

This is why, for example, the first season of GitS: Stand Alone Complex is an 8 to me but 2nd Gig is one of two TV anime I've yet granted a 10. The former is solidly good but had a few weaker episodes and the conclusion was fun but I don't remember the minute details. 2nd Gig? Barely any weak episodes, a much stronger core plot, and nearly a decade later that season's ending still hecks me up.

There's a reason I only have five 10/10s so far, and of those only Porco Rosso is from the last few years - it takes a lot to get there.

For me to give an anime a 10, it not only has to have no possible flaws I can think of, but it also needs to make me feel emotionally invested. It needs to have made me feel so much love for its characters. It needs to have made me cry at times, to get me to care. It needs to get me excited everytime I hear its name. It needs to be something that will stay close to my heart for a very long time. For me, the difference between a 9 and a 10 is how much I enjoyed it and how totally flawless I believe it to be.

Anime affects each person differently so a 10/10 for one person could be a 6/10 for someone else what matters is how many people collectively give a close rating a great anime is able to bring out the feels in enough people to get a 9 in retrospect anime considered "masterpieces" by some or a vast majority are not even a 9.5 on mal

The most objective way to score: I don't mind my score so much, so I often rate with 8+. If I rate with 8, 9 or 10 only depends on what "feels right" for me and on the numbers of flaws bothering me. That's why some of my favorites are scored with 8 or 9. They are still my favorites anyway. Oh and of course: It depends on my mood. XD
Reasons why I gave up on "proper scores": I'm lazy af and easy to please.

To me a 10/10 is a show that transcends what's great to the point of finding myself thinking about the themes it brilliantly tackled many times in the future, and possibly even had an impact in me as a person.

Or, in numerical terms, > 9,5/10+

There is no 10/10 anime because every anime has a flaw.
