I kinda wished they'd at least alluded early to the fact that Sakura's dad knew who the old man was. The whole episode was uncomfortable for me until the end. Of course it turned out to be a very sweet one but a little heads up would have been nice.

exactly my thoughts!! and why did Sonomi have to hide the entire time and keep the secret that he was her great grandfather? It never explained that... :?

yeah. I mean I know Japan has a low crime rate but even so, this is not soething you should do in general. If he wasn't Sakura's great-grandfather this could have turned VERY badly. ans sakura's dad should have said that it is only ok because they are family. I Mean I 'd read the manga so I knew who he was yet the creepy undertones STILL managed to overwhelm the sweet ones.

Lol, so this ep was the very definition of filler. No card capture, and the only new info we get is the intro of her (great?) grandfather, which hardly adds much to the story (though perhaps it will have some relevance later? I doubt it.)

Also glad I wasn't the only one getting massive pedo vibes from the old dude before the twist at the end. I was also seriously questioning the sanity of Sakura's father and brother letting her go off and spend time alone with an old man she doesn't know, though the ending makes it clear they obviously knew all along who he was (albeit I'm not sure why they never told Sakura this?)

Why all the secrecy here? Just tell Sakura and the brother that it's their grandfather.

Why do you think that father even knew that grandfather was living here?

Watch the last scene of the ep again. He makes it clear that he knows the old man in the house was his wife's (Sakura's mother's) father.

The only thing that's unclear is if Toya also knows, though it doesn't seem that he does.

AWWW SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEIT how fucking SUUWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITO

Man yous nigga be dumdumshit

Why would there be anything creepy about a cultured old man like him? Have you seen how he grooms himself, ESPECIALLY HIS FUCKING BEARD? He has tea, he does gardening, he has a BIG and nice garden, manfuckit, let's just go straight to the fact that HIS HOUSE IS A MANOR.

Creepy old man? Shit you niggers, you're degenerating the beautiful intent of this episode.

Watching this made me rethink how I've always felt about Cardcaptor Sakura ever since I first watched it in that godawful English dubshit. Never knew CCS could be this touching.

No Flow Card enemy in this episode.

I thought Sakura was spending her summer vacation with an old man and not with her family but at the end of the episode I realised that the old man is her great grandfather. So I guess she was spending time with here family. How sweet.

[sarcasm] Yeah because you can ALWAYS tell a pedophile by what they look like our how much money they have[/sarcasm]
Talk to a stranger sure, but don't just go over to their house our give them sensitive information, ESPECIALLLY IF YOU ARE A KID>

I'm sorry but the SEVERE lack of COMMON SENSE caused by NOT telling SAKURA that it is her Great-Grandfather and it would NOT be OK to go over to a stranger's house unsupervised. Cuts away at would have otherwise been a very sweet episode.

Sounds better than the usual "Sakura has fun, suddenly Clow Card!" formula.

Sakura's father knew who the old man was. No sane parent would let their child go to an unknown person's home without meeting them. And at the end of the episode he pretty much confirmed it.

"Your sight, my delight. Will you marry me?"

Surely Fujitaka (Sakura's father) knew that Sakura's mother's grandfather is staying at the bungalow. Otherwise no father in this world would allow his daughter to meet an unknown person like that. And I think it was arranged by Sonomi (Tomoyo's mother) and Fujitaka. And Tomoyo surely know about it too, you will understand if you notice Tomoyo's expression. It was a out of the convention episode, glad to see no claw card capture in this episode and also loved the way side characters getting more focus. There must be some reason why Fujitaka didn't tell Sakura and Touya about their grand grandfather, though the reason isn't mentioned.

This was something different. I was creeped out by the old guy at first, but as the episode went on I thought it was kinda cute. I'm not gonna lie, I had tears in my eyes when Sakura left and did the rainbow for him.

And holy shit that whoel thing had to be arranged by Sonomi and Sakura's Dad, I mean JESUS.

A. You guys need to chill, most people are just people in the end, no need to alienate one another. Maybe just cause I'm a small town guy, oh well.
B. Not sure that's exactly how rainbows work but works for the moment.
C. Sakura is a better person than I will ever be and that makes me question several aspects of myself.
D. No I am NOT crying...I am F***ing BAWLING over here...!

The way the old man lured her into a room filled with nothing but toys was a little creepy but besides that this episode was really good. I didn't think a kids show would be this heart warming but that ending reveal was precious.

The entire time I was wondering why Sakura's dad was being so nonchalant about his daughter meeting a weird old guy everyday, who lives all by himself in the middle of nowhere, and who each time kept luring her further and further into the house. Turns out, he's Sakura's great grandfather. How old is this guy anyway? He looks pretty healthy for a great grandfather.

Not fundamental to the main story, but important to building Sakura's interpersonal relationships with a new character, and not only. Interesting after the episode with Cerberus, very nice costume design.

Stranger Danger! :D that's what I thought, Watched this before as a kid and now my feelings are so different.
Anyway cute episode, but what the secrecy is all about? why not do a family meeting, like "hey sakura we are going to meet grandpa" or something like that?

So much cultural illteracy about Japan in these comments that I don’t even know where to begin. If you can construe this pure episode in a negative way you have only your western adversion to steangers to blame, a hysteria inculcated among members of societies where people see the intention of others in the worst possible way.

This episode had creepy undertones. But I almost guessed that the granddaughter of that old man was Sakura's mom because of the hairstyle alone. And some of the lines about his granddaughter being worse at tennis than Sakura make sense.

Tomoyo's mom is definitely creepy, even if Sakura's great grand father wasn't. I understand the old guy wanting to reconnect with his family and stuff, but I will never see Tomoyo's mom stalking Sakura as anything other than CREEPY. Guess we know where Tomoyo inherited her intense love for Sakura from.

Other than that, Sakura is quite the genki one in this episode. She is so full of enthusiasm, so much that I was worried that I was getting diabetes. Nice episode with a simple message and stuff. I hope Sakura adopts her mom's clothes as her costume.

Wouldn't Sakura's mom's room be more refined and ladylike rather than one belonging to a girl? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she eloped at 16.

Now I understand why the dub cut so many scenes from this series. If it was aired in Western countries, or even any country outside of Japan, the adults would be thoroughly creeped out. I hope there is a reaction video of Cardcaptor Sakura on Youtube by an American guy. He would definitely make a memetic face.

I mean, where I am from, I have seen numerous stuff similar to this, where young boy/girl goes into a old man's home and stuff, but none of them creeped me out because there was at least another person in the house, like a grandma or at least, the old person in question would know to keep his distance and give some personal space.

BTW, I think there was a horror hentai that I watched before that could have contributed to the fact that this episode scared the shit outta me. It had a similar story, was released in maybe 2005ish, and some teen chick would go into a gentleman's HUGE manor, and then she would be trapped and there would be all sorts of creatures trying to have their way with her. "Think of beauty and the beast" x "the shining" style hentai. Don't know if it still exists though.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was bound to lead me to a slow death.

Gotta admit as someone who has traveled to the "dark side" quite a lot this episode really gave me a bad vibe in the beginning. However, as someone already pointed out, how Sakura's dad allowed her to go visit a "stranger" without asking any question is enough for me to have no doubt for the direction of this episode.

On a different note, the execution in this one is really outstanding, I enjoyed the pacing as well as directing which really added up to the atmosphere and tone of CCS. The climax near the end somewhat gave me the chill, well done Madhouse.

I have to admit that I felt really uncomfortable with a hint of relief that she's having fun at a lot of the scenes in the episode. Everything the old guy does is just the shadiest things ever but I guess that you don't have to worry about stuff like that when the times were more innocent. For some time, I thought that he got jealous of Kinomoto because of his hesitation to eat the cookies but it turned out to be just a case of in-law salt and I also thought that the tea and cookies had something supernatural about it but it turned out to be Sonomi all along.

I found it weird that pretty much every character in the show has a departed direct relative but that reveal about the old dude's granddaughter being Nadeshiko all along really surprised me. When I look back into the episode, I noticed that there were many subtle hints that only showed its true colors at the end. No wonder her dad wasn't against the stranger having fun with his daughter for two days thing. Despite the misunderstandings, that rainbow scene made me all teary-eyed ♡

Eh... good old times, when peadophilia was mostly unheard of and adult man befriending a little girl didn't raise a suspicion...

Wait, he was her grandgrandfather? He was in really good shape for such an old person.

Also, it seems this episode was too Japanese for western standards. Damn these current days where someone talking to a little kid raises the worst thoughts possible.

I know that it gets revealed that he’s her great-grandpa or whatever, but rewatching this episode made me so uncomfortable.

This show is targeted towards kids, and the impression that a child might get from watching this ep is "if I follow a strange man into his house, where he lives alone, in the middle of nowhere, he’ll give me snacks and a room full of toys and it’ll be totally fine and dandy." I just feel like there were so many other ways for her to meet her great gramps without invoking stranger danger. Gah!

The old man was really nice, but I guess that many people would feel uncomfortable about the idea of a little girl being around someone like that alone. Of course, not every person would do bad things to someone. Perhaps society has gone from not worrying enough, to worrying too much.

It appears that the old man was actually her great grandfather, but he didn't tell her for some reason.

I watched the Nelvana dub of this, and right away they tell you it's her grandfather (they don't do the great grandfather because that's stupid) and she reminisces with her grandfather on her mother that passed away. A truly emotional episode that was very heartwarming, and had absolutely no creepy vibes at all in the Nelvana dub. The dub people bash lol even though the voice of Sakura in the dub is an actual 11 year old girl, and doesn't overact with the annoying cutey voice sounding like minnie moue. Looks like the dub did this episode better justice.

I definitely didn't expect to cry this much with the ending.

I tought it was some kind of "be careful of strangers" episode and it keep me distracted from any clue that the oldman was Sakura's great grandfather (That was on purpose or like an narrative accident?)

Can't say that i didn't feel the "stranger danger" vibe but it was still great episode. It's just shame that they could'nt have had the grandpa react to Sakura's name and have right flowers in the garden and leave it to that.

I guess they had to spell it out for the kids.
