Great episode. I know I'm going to enjoy this a lot.

I couldn't stop laughing throughout the episode. Hime is so cute and the voice actors for both the main character fit well.

The Starbucks scene was hilarious. These kids have some wild imagination.

That was actually really good. I was interested in this because of the art style and the premise, and what I got was a really funny and wholesome show about a (dirty) mangaka father trying to hide his job from his daughter. The scenarios were really fun, especially the Starbucks and bookstore scene. The OP and ED were pretty good as well.

I really like the word play from the title. Didn't realize what the title could mean until I watched this episode. "My father's secret is that he draws for a living." Really smart one.

I'll definitely watch this one until the end. Hope it stays funny and wholesome with no sudden changes and stuff.

Did Shaft close down? That's the only explanation why Kumenta's series is not done by them. It feels almost wrong to see his character design not done in that distinct style. It's even more striking when there are so many SZS lookalikes. Aside from the bizarre look, it was like a lightweight SZS. References and wordplay were pretty tame.

Shame it's not that unique blend of shaft and Kumeta. Joshiraku was kind of bland and Kizumonogatari movies sucked, so it would be great to see them team up again.

You know what? I take back what I said this morning. Fuck Appare-Ranman! This is the surprise favourite of the season.

Back when I was skimming through the chart last week I didn't pay this one much thought, reading the synopsis and going "meh" but I chose to watch it on a whim and hot damn, it's actually pretty good. Also wow, so this is what Araragi gets up to in his adult life. I'm curious why Senjougahara is mysteriously absent, I guess I'll find out in the near future.

Well this is a pleasant surprise. I liked Zetsubou Sensei best at its darkest so I wouldn't have asked for a lighter version, but contrasting Kumeta's brand of petty cynicism with a genuinely heart-warming relationship works really well. The vivid visuals are cool too and I feel like the director gets the author's sense of humour so I honestly have nothing but praise here.

I thought it was okay. Very light hearted comedy compared to Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (hard to have darker comedy than this show), and I appreciate the refreshing change of pace.

The episode was not the most interesting, and had moments where it dragged, but the dynamic was pretty cute with the father-daughter bond. Among the seasonals I started, one of the weaker starts so far but I expect this to age better with time.

Let me guess the part where we see Hime in her High School uniform when she opened up that door in front of that Hooch was probably the part where her dad has passed away......if it is, then wtf do they always have to kill off the parents????

This. Which isn't really a bad thing. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is brilliant and subversive, but also quite straining to watch at times. This show delivers very similar humor with less bizarro and at lower speed. SZS, iyashikei edition.

I liked it. Comedy is different from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Katte ni Kaizou, but I like the more wholesome approach of this work. Kamiya as always great (his character even looked like a grown-up Araragi), and the part of the Starbucks was amusing.

I realized there is a character that is identical to another from Katte ni Kaizou.

They even have the same name. I wonder if this is an easter egg or if both series are situated in the same universe.

Yeah, the word play was great. kakushigoto - kaku shigoto

Even their names (if you use 'given name followed by family name') are puns for 'secret'.
Gotou Kakushi = kakushigoto
Gotou Hime = himegoto

This was such a fun watch. Looking forward to the next.

Already my anime of the season. Think it’ll be a sleeper hit. Love the art, absolutely gorgeous. Characters are fun and the world feels alive. Takanashi rie is in it too so it starts at a 7.5 minimum

“Witch’s brew” that’s what I’m going to start calling Starbucks lol

Really loved this first episode, this is my type of show. Artistic, stylistic, funny, cute and wholesome. I love series that focus on parenting or parent-child relationships. I get the impression there’ll be a sort of bittersweet ending to this one though . Either way, can’t wait to see where it goes!

Edit: the seiyuu talent in this one is incredible.

You know I'd like sky-hopes for this prior to the airing, and it has absolutely delivered in flying colors! Spring 2020 is about the big guns, and quite rightly so, but I'm just as excited for this as some of those very big shots.

I have a weak spot for comedy and wholesomeness so this show is just up my alley. Add Kamiyan into the mix and you've got yourself a treat to look forward to, like seriously. Add to that Takahashi Rie, and it's a killer!

Kind of opened a new world to me, this episode. I wonder if this is shades of what real life mangakas who delve in this genre go through.

Star-(bucks) scene was my pick for the episode. Man, those kids are just too creative and the cameo from the teacher is just gold. Honorable mention to the editor scene, xD. Hime is just too kawaii ~

I'm calling it, this is going to be sleeper hit show of the season.

Love the artstyle too, very Shaft-like with the color usage, and the Op is just fabulous to the ears. I really can not wait to see what's next in store for us!

The directing and animation is great. Really looking forward to this series.

As soon as I saw the artstyle I knew it was gonna be SZS style of a show. Which is both good and bad. Some jokes (in both series) I found to be funny but other's were just dull as heck

I do like the wholesome bond between those 2, I did think this show was gonna be more akin to Bunny Drop initially but this more comedic approach isn't too bad

Well, comedy in anime is a hit or miss I guess. It was a miss for me, I thought it was quite boring. Plus I don't like this kind of art where grown-ups look like teenagers, and I'm tired with all of these daddy/daughter stories anyway.

But to those who liked this first episode, keep on watching and have fun. It's just not my thing.

Man, I'm so happy my life isn't devoid of joy so I can actually appreciate this, unlike a few people trying to create mountains out of molehills. Usually I'm the one finding issues with things most people like, too.

This show was absolutely charming, I especially loved the character design and color palette, it really added to the soothing atmosphere I felt the creator was trying to make.

With such strong direction and faithful telling of the jokes, wordplay, and story, this show can't fail. I had a smile on my face throughout the whole episode. Even though this isn't shaft's take on the manga it follows the same beats that it would have. And I think because of the type of series this is its perfect to be given to this staff. Thankfully the following episodes will be as charming and funny as the rest, coming from a manga reader.

Hiroshi Kamiya and Rie Takahashi, a pairing that we need not see but realize that this show has already a strong, funny and amusing, but definitely solid start indeed. Father Araragi and Daughter Takagi, the similarities can't be that uncanny, but Usagi Drop this isn't definitely.

For father Kakushi, drawing vulgar manga is his way of life, and hiding that from daughter Hime was a secret so funny that it must be concealed AT ALL COSTS. Didn't expect Hime to be as intelligent as the average teenager, but as innocent as a child in the face of adults. All those references are definitely the fun touch to add onto the comedy.

That Starbucks scene though, HAHA WOW that was hilarious!

A great start, looking forward to more of this series.
