| Hello. I have no clue if this have been discussed or not. If it have been, do something about the topic, if not, hear me out. What about an option for the users to chose what main picture does their favorite characters have? For example, one of my favorite characters have a picture which I don't like, of course, sometimes it gets changed, but who knows how much time do I have to wait? Well, whatever. One of the potential disadvantage this suggestion has, in my opinion, is that users will frequently change their favorite character's picture, therefore people will get confused about the character, will stop looking at them, and start giving more attention to the names of the characters, rather than the picture. By "main" picture, I mean the one that is put next to the name of the character in the favorite menu. Yes, perhaps it doesn't really matter. It's nothing but a picture after all. But, I like the idea. |

| +1, if they aren't willing to change the awfully default pictures of some characters then might as well have this option. Add in change the Anime Relation shown at the bottom of the character as well in favorites since some do not have the character relation under the main title which is pretty annoying as well. |

Some anime also have a lot of character pictures with blank backgrounds despite having numerous better pictures that fit that criteria. Some examples are Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata, Just Because!, etc. (and the pictures weren't blank in saekano's case before, they changed it to those when the 2nd season was announced and I don't see why they haven't reverted it back.). There are more factors other than these that make this suggestion more favorable. I mean you won't really lose anything in fact it'd probably benefit a lot of people it's merely an extra. Although I can see an influx of picture submissions which can also be pretty bad. They also used to accept pic change requests but as far as I know they don't now due to high demands. | I guess it is quite a difficult feature to implement for MAL, but I like this suggestion. It is definitely not something they should implement as soon as possible, though. |

The thing is he had a perfectly fine picture for years, but then they changed it multiple times and decided to stick with the worst one possible LMAO. Also changing Gil's picture seems to be in pretty high demand but seems like they're not changing it. |

| Merged all threads I could find on this suggestion topic. The character picture change request thread was closed because it was a constant fight. Not only users disagreeing with mods, but users disagreeing with users. It was too much of an unnecessary burden and stress. Unfortunately, a voting system for images would just result in users creating 1000+ accounts to sway images on their favourite character, like they already do to try and sway anime scores. The DB staff know that the relations on the character favourites do not always represent the "main" series the character is from. We hope to have an option for us to change that internally in the future. As for the suggestion itself, I'm personally not opposed to it but I'm really not sure how feasible it is code-wise... |

Right now MAL uses its own CDN to let us see the pics. This makes things easier since that means we can reach every pics. So we know that and why its important? Well think about like that. Some sites have their own profile picture folder where you can select from a bunch. This logic can be implied to this suggestion. As for database it can send the selected with special tag to CSS of user profile. Tl;dr: Not that hard. |
| @sasalx I believe it would also require thumbs to be created for all images? And then there is optimization for images loading on pages. While I appreciate your thoughts on the matter (you probably understand the CDN etc. better than I), the devs at DeNA ultimately decide what is feasible code-wise. It's quite a lot of supporting code I think for a rather small perk. |
| @Kineta My assumption is there is a provided link for thumbs of every picture. At least that is what I can get from html of site. If there is a auto converter that even makes it simpler but since the links are same in every load I dont think so. As for optimization its the same if you store the pics in DB which they are. CDN handles how fast you can see the pic too. Well I am not saying its worth or not since that is neither my job nor my point. They are the ones that gaining money at the end. I am just saying its not hard with some assumption since I dont have the source code. |
| Thank you for describing how you think it's technically possible. I hope you understand this is not what I meant by feasible though :) Let me clear it up for other users also reading the thread. As for the suggestion itself, I'm personally not opposed to it. However, I do not know how time-consuming developing this feature would be, and if it would take some time to implement, I'm not sure if it would be worth that time for such a small thing. Please continue to post showing your support for the suggestion if you like it. |

| I get where this suggestion is coming from, but at the same time you're asking MAL to open up their allowability options in terms of: we all know there's going to be that really select group that are going to put up some ridiculous, NSFW content as the pictures, and even if they get banned it doesn't stop the problem. |
