This whole drama about dopplegangers, the fire combustion incidents, and Sumire is lowkey horror. The Woman in Black appears this episode as well.

Episode just reeks of conspiracy and mystery. On the other hand, at least we know a bit more about her past now.

This was pretty unsettling to begin with, but yeah, the way sister Sumire was talking with or more like her “don’t give a fuck” tone really gives the kind of idea about how much these people cared about those kids they were raising, sigh. Really though, the convent was just their way to experiment a whole lot of things. Success or failure wouldn’t even have mattered, I mean they would’ve still continued, right? Just for the sake of it.

To think she’s been around for 250 years just for the sole purpose of recreating the great cataclysm adds even more to the lore around the pillars, because she’s one of them, and yeah, just how much doppelgangers hold meaning in the context of everything that has happened thus far. I can say that how the whole second half could’ve been skipped, but yeah, that holds meaning to the stuff that will happen later¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, they nailed the horror feel of the episode, I'll give them that. Sister Sumire's facial expression accompanied by the eerie music in the back made for quite the backdrop for everything that dropped on us. Along with that big reveal, that yes, she is indeed 8th pillar. Now we officially know who all eight pillars are.. and yeah, it ain't looking good for the good guys here. What is it, a total of like two of the eight are on their side? Lol.

But after that insane, very serious and intense loredrop, what do you expect them to follow it up with? Something just as, if not more serious and intense right? Welp, your wrong, this is Fire Force, so ofc the tonal shifts are as jarring as Arthur's stupidity. Speaking of, yeah, a Arthur arc is exactly what we're getting here... I mean, sure man... whatever. Pacing is back to feeling as slow as ever... god.

David Pro absolutely smashed the horror vibes in these last two episodes and it makes the reveals feel fresh even for manga readers! Hibana learning the truth about Sister Sumire and the true purpose of the convent sent chills up my spine.

Taking advantage of kids is the most evil shit you can do. There’s just something that makes me get so angry hearing about vulnerable people being taken advantage of. Sister Sumire betrayed the trust of so many innocent kids to experiment on and use for the evangelist’s goals. And these are just the ones we know about! Imagine the other orphans she’s taken advantage of like Rekka!

The way she casually reveals all this info with a smile on her face as if it’s a nice convo over a dinner had my blood boiling Hibana and I already knew what was coming! Studio did a great job with the direction, scene composition and ost there to drive home how unnerving this all was. I think sumire’s shivering ability is actually really fitting given it’s the reaction you’d have when having a conversation with her.

The more we learn about Adolla and the cataclysm, the more questions we get. Sumire fed Hibana just enough to point her in the right direction, while setting up 100 more questions. One thing’s for certain, Sumire is pure evil. Bringing the sisters Hibana grew up with back as internals is absolutely disgusting. Those cries out for help calling Hibana’s name.. haunting. Sumire must die. Painfully preferably.

2nd half with Arthur was a nice light bit of comedic relief after a really dark last 1.5 episodes. If Arthur’s gonna become a true hero, it’s only right he go thru the classic “have your hopes and fighting spirit completely crushed only to bounce back stronger” trope lol. Something utterly hilarious about Arthur’s original sword being made from home depot materials lmao tho πŸ˜‚. S/O Vulcan and Lisa for coming up with the legendary sword Easter egg hunt to keep him focused and motivated!

Good episode, can’t wait to see what D pro got for us next week and we can’t forget about Joker and Benimaru cooking up as well. Just getting started here.

First part of the episode. Super dramatic and heavy conspiracy. With all the plot around Hibana and Iris backstory.

Second half. Vulcan making the silliest adventure for Arthur get his Holy Sword(mojo)back.

Continuing off the unsettling vibes of the 2nd half of last week's episode, more mysteries regarding human combustion and the Great Cataclysm are revealed. David Pro really nailed this section and how off-putting Sister Sumire was. Good thing Hibana and the others were able to get out of there.

The tonal shift of the 2nd half of the episode may understandably not be to everyone's liking but Arthur is my GOAT and this will actually pay off some time later, so I don't mind the 2nd half of the episode going full RPG side quest lol. Vulcan really managed to put this together and get some of the townsfolk to play along, but of course Arthur couldn't solve even the simplest of riddles at the end lmao. It was nice to get something lighthearted for a bit.

That was sweet from Vulcan and everyone in Asakusa but unfortunately Arthur is too far gone, all things considered it is incredible how far he came using only a basic piece of equipment, that was holding him back. I love when shows can get some rather serious parts, like the unfortunate fate of the other girls from the orphanage but then bounces with something silly to balance it out.

Slightly better ep than the last

Sister Sumire's creepy ahh is kinda nerve racking, including the fact that her deadpan face quite literally barely moves.

We learn more about the insane experiments and the past 250 years before the events of the Great Cataclysm.

In order to get Arthur right, we must find Orichalcum and must feed his delusion that in turn becomes power. Onto the Nether, which in a sense makes sense place wise, to find such random materials.

Calm animation with some great direction and transitions to show the dire state of anger that Hibana is in. Once again, we know about the slow pacing, but I think it's quite obvious that the end of the cour will be ch 216.

This ep adapted from ch 200 to the end of 202. While I thought that it would get to 203, it's fine anyways.

9.5/10

This episode showcased Fire Force at it's best and worst. The first half of the episode was top notch tension, creepy horror and sense of dread. Sister Sumire is an awesome antagonist.

And then the second half with the complete and utterly silly, pacing destroying sketch about Arthur. All that was missing was someone crashing into Tamaki's boobs

Just like how in the last one where we learned the truth of what caused the fire at the convent, this time we learned another secret that’s been kept since 2019, and that’s the truth of human combustion, and the truth itself is really cool while at the same time unsettling, just like Sister Sumire lol, it is pretty wild that it’s just the Adolla counterparts trying to merge with the human ones. And this also revealed more about the Great Cataclysm, which was apparently a failed attempt at turning the world into a sun, so now they’re doing it again, I really hope the white-clad don’t even get to light a match but this does give me hope that if it failed once, it can fail again.

Also Sister Sumire is one of the pillars, and her power is shivering at an incredible speed lol, it sounds silly but I like that it correlates with her being from Adolla, so our world would be incredibly cold to her if she’s used to the heat of Adolla. And I was really happy to see the return of the mole guy and the woman in black here, they came in clutch, but at the same time this was the final goodbye of the woman in black, my guess with her is that she was one of the pillars from the first attempt at burning the planet, cool but sad to see her fade away. And man, just to make Sumire even more evil, she goes and taunts Hibana with infernal versions of her former friends from the convent, yeah this bitch needs to die lol, I’m patiently awaiting her ass whooping, I feel so bad for the kids tho, it hurts to say but I think the only way to save them is to put them out of their misery.

But this episode wasn’t all truth bombs and despair, we also got some silly side questions with Arthur, the juxtaposition of this being right after the first half of the episode is a bit of a jump but I really like its placement here personally, I think good vibes were needed lol. And good on Vulcan for helping our boy out here in the only way that works for him, nice to see Lisa and Yu assisting too (the fantasy version of Lisa is appreciated), but I’m starting to think with Arthur’s misunderstanding of the final clue, we may actually see them come across a legendary ore lol, the Nether most definitely has something cool in there, should be fun to see how Arthur gets his mojo back from this.

Is that perhaps Arthur's parents that went MIA when he was young, in the teaser for episode 9? Could they be the people Joker was talking about, who is also on their side but live in the shadows/underground/Nether?

So doppelgängers and human combustion are basically the same thing connected to Adolla.

Anyway, I like that the first half of the episode is this big reveal of the series’ main mystery and the second is Arthur’s fun little RPG adventures.

That preview for the next episode, HOLY SHIT that was unexpected! That, combined with what Joker said, clears so many things about Arthur's life, this just keeps better and better, I love this!!!

Shouldn't Sumire be the true 1st pillar? It's kinda weird that she called herself the 7th lol, and wtf man, we once again got denied of seeing Li's powers because Sumire almost made him lose his only arm loool

It was funny how Iris appeared only to help introduce Yu again since that kid completely vanished after the few episodes he was in season 1 lol

The most heinous of crimes are always commited by those dearest to you. Sumire being an immortal though was pretty scary. But seeing her own fellow sisters again as child infernos must had been disturbing to Hibana. Still the intel that they gathered here is defo useful. After that kind of fight can't blame arthur for being down. Vulcan's plan sure ended up going in ways that even he couldn't have predicted.

This episode shows 2 of the biggest problems I have with this anime, despite it having such an interesting concept.

Let's start by saying the 1st half of the episode was probably one of the best moments of Fire Force since the 1st season. The direction of the scenes was really well done. They executed perfectly the feel of horror that Hibana had when she saw Sister Sumire, and her former sisters, now turned into devils. That scene was ruthless. Not only that, we finally get the answer for the 1st ever question we got when we started this anime: what is the origin of human combustion?
It seems that this has to do with the Adolla world, where every person has it's own counterpart (the doppelganger), and then when this counterpart is able to connect with the person in the "real" world, the person turns into an infernal. Now, what's this Adolla world, we still need more info. But I feel like this is a big step for the anime, we finally got this answer!
Also, we got the confirmation that Sister Sumire was feeding those kids the bugs that turn people into Infernals, and that's because bugs are common to both worlds. With that, she wanted to produce doppelgangers.

We also get the info that Sister Sumire is actually the 8th pillar, which explains why Haumea said all the Pillars were summoned, when we only knew about 7 (but I didn't say anything about this before, because at this point I though maybe I wasn't paying enough attention). So now they can start the Cataclysm...

Also, I wonder what connection Sister Sumire has with the Lady in Black, since it was thanks to her that Hibana and the rest were able to escape Sister Sumire. Also, the talking animal appeared again! I'm glad at least they are also bringing that back again, since that arc felt a bit random.

Now, this was great, and the last half of episode 7, and this first half are probably the best episode of the season, and of the best in Fire Force in general.
The second half of this episode was, well, anticlimatic.

Seriously, after we got the biggest revelation of the anime so far, they decided to make the rest of the episode about some sily quest to make Arthur regain his confidence in fighting again (which means, just to regain is sword and to think that sword is more special than the other one). I really thought they would to some character development with Arthur after that last battle, and especially after that first scene he appears in this episode, but shortly I understood they were just going to use the trope that "Hey, look, Arthur is dumb, he thinks this rare ore actually exists". I never was a fan of this trope, and after such an important revelation for the anime (I mean, it was the main question ever since the 1st season), it just made this section feel so much out of place and not that much enjoyable really. The anime takes itself seriously sometimes, and then gives us these scenes. I was really hoping to be surprised, but I wasn't. I guess the fact that Arthur was literally abandoned by his parents is something that will never see the light of day again.

So overall, I didn't enjoy the episode so much, because while the 1st half was amazing, the latter half was really disappointing, and in reality, didn't bring anything new either.

I have to say that the opening is growing more and more in me, Queen Bee did a great job with it!

@PokefanPT Well, the Arthur segment is pretty important but you have only seen part of it. Next week will address some of your complaints.

That said, this is also a case of the different pacing between manga and anime formats. In the manga you obviously don't have Arthur's silly stuff in the same chapter as the Sumire reveal.

It seems that Hibana might have figured out the secret to human combustion and it's origins with relation to Adollar and dopplegangers just gives this show an extra dose of horror, as it really means that people can just combust at any random time if their doppleganger chooses to merge with them :/.

Besides the great lore building in this episode and the horror that was sister Sumire, it was sad to see the last of the Women and Black but now we know what she was...a previous pillar which makes sense why she had an Adollar burst and all :}.

Also, watching Arthur's goofy adventure after that deep world building was unexpected I must say.
