After the MASSIVE success of Fall 2022's Blue Lock anime adaptation, it's no surprise that, along with a second season on the horizon, we would also get an adaptation of the spin-off featuring easily the BEST character, Nagi, in the form of a movie.

Seishirou Nagi, a second-year high school student, finds his life taking a dramatic turn upon meeting Reo Mikage. Reo, possessing charm, intellect, athleticism, and heirship to an esteemed company, harbors a singular ambition: to attain the title of world soccer champion. To realize his dream, he recruits the laid-back Nagi into his soccer club, recognizing Nagi's innate talents capable of executing awe-inspiring feats with ease. With their exceptional abilities, the duo quickly garners attention, especially through an exclusive program designed for elite attackers—the renowned Blue Lock!

I really liked learning more about Nagi and Reo's backstory, seeing how they became friends. Also, after all the intense Blue Lock episodes, it was nice to watch some simpler soccer action. Though speaking of Blue Lock episodes, this side story movie didn't feel much different from a regular Blue Lock episode, at least in terms of animation. While there were certainly some improved cuts and less CG (thankfully), it still felt like another episode of Blue Lock, just with Nagi and Reo at the forefront instead of Isagi and the others. There were some improvements, but it still felt like Blue Lock. It was cool to see Isagi too. Nagi and Reo are funny together, and it's a nice change from the main series. Nagi almost left Blue Lock, but Reo convinced him to stay. It was tough seeing them fight, but it worked out in the end. I won't spoil much, but that post-credit scene has me hyped for what's next.

As for Nissy and SKY-HI's theme song, while it is a good fit for soccer more than any other Blue Lock song thus far, it may be the weakest song to date. Nevertheless, it's still a banger.

Overall, this side story is a nice treat for anyone waiting for season two and especially for fans of BEST BOY Nagi. You'll definitely enjoy it. Season two, here we go!

@IzanaSolos so is this movie expanded backstory of Nagi? is there more content about blue lock (the location) events? anything continuing the first season?
it's been announced that this movie is being shown in my country and i kinda want to see it, but if it's a recap or something i'm not sure

The movie was pretty good and I loved the theme song "Stormy" that played in the movie. Unfortunately, the movie is partially a recap movie told in the perspective of Nagi, but that ending scene leading up to season 2 was amazing! Still, the movie was a fun experience for any Nagi and Reo fans like myself. Might watch it again when it comes out on streaming.

I thought the movie was really good! At least, I personally quite enjoyed it. I didn't care too much about Reo in season 1, but it did a really good job of showing Nagi and Reo's friendship, and I even shed a few tears for him when Nagi chose to go with Isagi and Bachira. Glad they're both still on the same boat, and that they're still friends~

Nagi's POV was really interesting tbh, especially since I liked him as a character already, but understanding his thoughts and relationship with Reo was great.

This movie was great. It really helped to better understand Nagi and Reo's relationship. Like during their break up in the main series, you could tell how devastating it was for Reo, but we only knew a minimal amount. I always felt they had an interesting dynamic and appreciate them expanding on it.

I did expect more focus on their time in high school, but no complaints about jumping into the main story so quickly.

aye that was sick!! great to see nagi and the crew again
super interesting to see everything from a different pov
music was great

some scenes were greatly animated, but some were obv just recycled from S1 which made it feel a little like a recap

the post-credits was hype albeit a bit spoilery. we know for sure some of the characters in the U20 game now XD but let’s be honest we obv expected isagi, nagi etc anyways. makes me so keen for S2 in october!!!

ultimately a great spinoff but not amazing. 8/10

Finally got around to seeing this in theaters, and while a lot of it is just S1 from Nagi's POV, I was still hyped during those parts since it's my first time seeing them again since S1 aired. Even though the animation is kind of lacking, especially for a sports series, this series is still so damn entertaining to watch, especially when they use some crazy visual imagery for dramatic effect. I still got chills despite already knowing what would happen.

It was nice to see how Nagi and Reo became friends and how they got into soccer and the Blue Lock program together. After that it was pretty much stuff we more or less knew/saw from S1. It was still good, and the tease at the end of what's to come has me hyped for S2.

Also, Ash Da Hero's insert song, "Beast Mode," was fire.

Hmm overall it was okay, a decent watch for learning more about Nagi and Reo, their relationship, and their ego and motivations for playing soccer. But for a movie, the animation is awfully disappointing. The characters often looked weirdly drawn and stiff. I hope the second season will look better than this lol. And as someone who's really fond of the Nagi spinoff manga, I gotta say, it's not the most satisfying adaptation. A lot of pre-Blue Lock/Hakuho school scenes were skipped - which okay fine, isn't a big deal - but after the Nagi and Zantetsu bath scene, everything (aside from the Team V vs. Team Z match) was horribly rushed through. For Team V vs. Team W, it doesn't show how Reo was able to use his leadership skills to unite Team V and his intelligence to coach Zantetsu on how to make the best use of his abilities. Team V vs. Team X was especially disappointing. Really bad animation (RIP Barou's lion aura) and odd transitions with how much was skipped.
And 1/3 of the movie was dedicated to the Team V vs. Team Z match, which we've already seen from the first season. Sure, the match is the most important in setting off Nagi's desire to get better at soccer, but with the movie being only 90 minutes long, new scenes from the spinoff would've been much more engaging to watch. Plus, so many scenes were re-used from the first season. Feels really cheap when people have paid money to watch this in the movie theaters...

But anyways, for what the movie did do well - of course VAs did an amazing job, great OSTs, the tag game was pretty good, and the new animation with Isagi's direct shot was fantastic. And Reo crying...:') At least they did that part justice. Plus, one thing that really stuck out to me is the way the eyes were drawn - a lot of good close ups, such as when Nagi learned the feeling of frustration after Team V lost against Team Z. Love the way they shine. The decision to make a montage of the second selection was an odd one, but I guess the sneak-peek to the U-20 arc was cool and is there to hype us up for the second season.

Yeah, that was pretty cool! To be honest, I was just waiting for Isagi's moment but they didn't focus on it as much as I'd hoped, but it makes sense, it was supposed to be purely from Nagi's POV, after all. It started off as a Mikage-focused movie in all honesty but after the betrayal, it truly and well became Nagi's, xD.

Solid recap too, 7/10 from here. Can't wait for S2 next season! "Nice to meet you, Japan." - lol.

I'm worried about the quality of season 2 if this is the quality of movie version. And by quality I don't mean just a visual aspect. The music, the editing, the story, the dialogue are all quite underwhelming. The best thing about this movie is Ryo Nameoka but sadly he only appear briefly in this film. They should give a bigger role to him, make him the demonic villain of this film, even at the cost of changing the original manga source.

We get to see it from Nagi’s POV obviously. From the time of meeting Reo till the season finale. It was all a recap with the interactions surrounding Nagi.

Post credits, we get to see him, Isagi and others getting ready to play against U20 team. Reo is there to support, probably benching.

The 7/10 I gave episode Nagi is mostly because of the story rather than the production. Overall, it was really cool to see a recap of most of Season 1 through Nagi's perspective and I liked seeing the way Nagi and Reo interacted with each other, and obviously Nagi's character progression throughout all of it was really cool. That being said, it really didn't seem like the studio tried too much. Either that, or it's another problem of bad budgets and timeframes which is very likely. Some of the best animation throughout the movie, was the reused scenes from season 1. Even then, some parts just felt really rushed in general, especially with condensing so many things into a 1 hour 30 minute movie. The post-credit though got me pretty hyped for the U-20 match. I'm praying they're saving their budget for that because the teasers we've gotten of S2 so far don't look too promising...

All in all, Episode Nagi is a decent movie for anyone wanting a recap of Season 1 before watching Season 2, with extra additions all in Nagi's perspective throughout Blue Lock. Still worth a watch :)

Where do I even start with this? It felt kinda self-serving and pretentious. They made the movie simply because they could. Because the book exists, because, iirc reading somewhere, Nagi's apparently the mangaka's favourite. That is all. Maybe, on the side, almost unintentionally, ending up milking the fans some more, as if the metric f×ckton of merch (ranging from the cheapest keychains and coasters to luxury-brand watches) and collabs aren't enough.

I dunno. They could've made season 1 just one, maybe two episodes longer, and all the extra material would've fit right in, filled out most if not all of that time. Don't get me wrong, I love getting more background stuff to characters, I love getting more sneak peeks into their everyday lives. Really. There's a good chance when everyone hates a filler, I'm gonna love it, purely on the merits of it being a break from the usual. But there's isn't really anything more here, it's rather just... more of the same. We already knew how they met in school, how Reo took a shine to Nagi. We already knew, or could very well surmise that they steamrolled other teams - they wouldn't've gotten into BL if they'd been bad. What else is there? Internal monologues adding words to things we could see clearly the first time, a few additional shots of Nagi going through the same exact path of awakening as all the others (perhaps a little more dragged out here, since they could focus on one character only, as opposed to having to ping-pong between so many). With Isagi being the one to spark his actual curiosity. Rewatching the games yet again. Watching the extended version of The Breakup™️ that felt stupid and pointless enough the first time around- sorry but the obviousness of the emotional manipulation kills all the emotional response it's supposed to evoke, when all there is to it is a sever lack of talk-no-jutsu that could've happened any time. Then the pacing getting rushed towards the end, feeling like things gotten piled up and congested and had to be compressed together, to the point where it's more like a series of silent GIFs glued to each other. And then, at the end of this, in a post-credit scene - imagine making a movie that's about 80% recap, AND managing to also smuggle in a sort of spoiler, because why's Reo there at the U20 match, acting like Nagi's PA or manager or whatever, instead of playing? Obviously the manga readers would know that, and we'll get to see what happens in s2, but the fact remains that s2 hasn't happened yet (so many months after the premiere of this, even), and it's just. Something we have no idea about, because the anime hasn't shown it yet. It's bizarre.

Really, the new things we got is... Baaya, Choki, and maybe the bit about Zantetsu's parents being dentists (and I'm not even sure that wasn't mentioned somewhere in s1). With a light sprinkle of fanservice, mostly also Nagi ofc, just to get that checked off on the list as well. That's rather anemic for 90 minutes. With the quality also being all over the place, some stuff being outright glued in from s1, some very well done, then at some point some of the characters looking not at all like their usual selves (even Ego), and at other points complete close-up stills lacking any and all kinds of detail in faces. It's one thing over the 24(+) week run of a season, but served in one complete movie, it just hits differently. At least the music was great throughout, but ofc that too also got the recycling treatment, so.

Yeah, I think pretentious and self-serving is the best I can describe EpiNagi. Especially with the amount of merch that has come out of this, it's borderline insane - which is a rather redundant thing to point out, considering BL merch as a whole, but here we are. Maybe if there had been a longer break between s1 and this, it could've served better as a refresher course, but with only ~13 months between the last episode and this, and then a mere ~5.5 months before s2.... I really can't find a reason for this to exist, other than favouritism and "because they could".

@aLotQuestion_ Idk didnt read the manga but it looks like its a spoiler, if its from s2 or futher away ... and I hate it why they spoil the upcoming season(s)!?
The most thrilling thing in this Series is the unkown, who get kicked and who get through it.

One reason more to dont watch a movie from 8bit anymore, or whoever had this stupid idea to put this at the end of a movie. (They could also give a spoiler warning or something lol)

So I Hope this would be a multiverse or alternative version or something like that but I think its not ....

Interesting film!
More than action or football, it is the psychological situation of Nagi and Mikage, and above all the evolution of Nagi in his personality!

Watched this right after Nagi introduced himself to Japan. Man, I miss having decent animations lol. Sure it's not the best but it's far better than what we're having in season 2.

Finally get to see the Apple watch transition LMAO. I thought the movie was going to be more about Nagi before he entered Blue Lock, but it's about his awakening which was entertaining to watch. Watching Isagi's awakening from Nagi's perspective was a treat to watch, it almost felt like I was watching season 1 again. 8/10.

As I was writing this, the after credits scene rolled up and I actually didn't expect them to leak the lineup for the U-20s lol. And the Nagi line was done in the movie first?? Woow didn't know that.

Basically if Blue Lock was condensed as a recap special but from the perspective of Team V, mainly Nagi and Reo.

This really showed the stark contrast between what Team Z's and Team V's experience during the first selection. Team Z was fighting for their life in the first selection and literally gave their all in the last match. Whereas Team V (especially Nagi) barely had to put any efforts during their matches. Even Barou didn't seem all that intimidating from their perspective. They only started to panic when Team Z started doing unexpected shit in the final match. That too after the 3rd or 4th goal. If they took them seriously they would have defeated them easily.

Nagi and Reo's friendship was explored and it really showed why Reo was so salty when Nagi ditched him. It also showed how fucking easy and effortless it was for Nagi to pull off such goals. He was genuinely confused why other's couldn't pull off stunts similar to him. Football wasn't even fun for him. It wasn't until Isagi and Team Z exceeded his expectations that he began to realise that he has to actually put efforts and concentrate during the match. The 2nd selection carved his ego into what it is today.

They also gave a teaser of Blue Lock vs Japan U20 and his goal scoring dialogue.

The OST's were absolute bangers. Animation was aight nothing special. Even Isagi's final goal was better animated in the original series.

Decent one time watch. 5/10 for me.

Looks like it was recaps of some episodes from Season 1 but this time, with Nagi's POV. I somehow liked new contents added to the movie. We discovered that Nagi and Reo were undefeated before entering Blue Lock and had to handle their first loss when they battled, Isagi's team.
